I picked up my DS and found my fire red aerlier today and decided to start a new game. After reading many forums and seeing how rare shiny starters are I have been trying to get one.

My question is that when the small picture comes up whan you press 'a' infront of the pokeball, will it show as shiny or will i have to check it after i take it.

    thanks.

I've never gotten a shiny starter so I'm not sure but I think you'll have to check it after talking the pokemon to know if it's shiny. The pictures they show when you click on them are generic pictures and thus are always the same. As I said I'm not sure though.

i think you have to check it or wait till you battle you're rival

No. It's like finding a shiny legendary. They still appear the colors that they should normally be, but once you get into the battle screen they will be shiny.

Yes.. this is absolutely correct. It will show normal (non-shiny) sprite pics but when you verse your rival, you'll find out. Hope this helps! :)

It's hard for me to even get a female starter!

A shiny starter would take you days.

Well its not that weird, you had 12.5 percent out of hundred to get a female starter. As for shinies, bah, it would takes you days if your lucky, 1/8192 to be precise.

to get far enough to breed pokemon in FR takes more than 13 hours for me anyway so i guess i was just lucky to get it this fast. my bro took 11 days and didnt get one on Diamond.

I still have yet to get a Shiny on Fire Red... I've played through it 4 times and only saw the ones that are in the trainer tower that are supposed to be shiny...

And I was resetting for a few months to get a Shiny Bulbasaur and just gave up and got one that was good natured.

Well then, there is an easier way. Find a Ditto and put it in the Day Care, and start breeding your pokemon like crazy. Its faster. And you can do more Pokemon at one time.

even so you still have a very low chance of actually getting a shiny Pokemon and you end up with hatching so many eggs and probably all of them aren't even going to be a single shiny. So the best thing to do is cheat

Well, that's not really good advice XP

For me, I only have shinies for collection, since shinies never have good IVs or correct natures. =(
