2nd Gen Shiny Starters

If I were going to SR for shiny starters on Crystal, when could I tell if it were shiny or not? Before I get the Pokemon or after? And does SRing for shiny starters on crystal take longer?

After you get the Pokemon, check it's summary and you'll know. And SRing for a shiny starter on Crystal would be the same as doing it on GS. Personally, I don't think it takes that long, but HGSS is probably the fastest of all main games to SRing for a shiny starter, because you can look at all three of the starters beforehand and see if any of them are shiny.
