I wrote this for my school. :)

    __________________________________________________________________________

I had no idea where I was. Everything around me was black as the endless sky. Even the stars dared not show their faces to the world on this desolate night. I sat in my little wooden boat, wondering how long it would be before I sank to my watery grave. Before long, a storm had erupted, seemingly from nowhere. This is it, I thought as my small boat tossed about. This is when I die. Yet, to my infinite surprise, I did not die that night. Instead, the crashing waves launched my small rowboat upon the shore of a seemingly deserted island. I pulled myself somewhere dry, before finally passing out from exhaustion.

When I awoke the next morning, the first thing I noticed was the sun's smiling face. Around me was a small sandy area, covered with multiple shards of splintered wood. The small beach had a lining of miniature cliffs. A beautiful, lush green forest stood atop these cliffs. Without thinking, I eagerly made my way towards this inviting sight.

As I stepped under the canopy of trees, the sounds and smells of the forest surrounded me. In the distance, I could hear the trilling voice of a jay, calling to her family. The smell of the surrounding oak trees was overpowering, sending my mind into an internal paradise. A squirrel ran past me, and up the trunk of one such tree, stopping to scold me for blocking its path. I could not help but smile at the wonderful feeling it all gave me.

The only reason I escaped my mental fantasy was that I felt my stomach cry out for sustenance. I was not sure what to do. Therefore, I let my senses reach out farther, and could soon detect the gurgling sound of a laughing brook. I followed this pleasant sound to its source, a river in the heart of the forest. Seeing this, I could feel dehydration hit me like a ton of bricks, and I stooped to drink my fill of the icy, yet refreshing, water. As I looked up from my task, the first thing I noticed was an almond tree, surrounded by bushes that looked to hold berries of some sort.

I rushed over, no longer caring how much noise I made. I had already assessed that no humans had ever set foot here, or else they had died long ago. I scampered up the tree, and began stuffing myself with the delicious nuts. Once I had had my fill, I climbed down, and began feasting on the berries. With the first bite, I knew these berries were like none I had ever tasted; they were not too bitter, but still had enough of a tang to keep me enjoyed. As I ate, I thought with a smile, Maybe I will be okay after all.

i think that you're off to a really good start. so far, i can't find any real issues (but then again, i'm not good with grammar)

i was wondering if you could tell me who the main character is (like if its a boy/girl,or what his/her name is) if you don't its fine

Hahaha. Well, I was supposed to write this for school, so I wrote it from my own P.O.V. :) I'm glad you like it.

Oh, and it's a short story, not one with chapters, though I could make it so if you would like me to.
