Ehm... take "open world" in Pokémon with a grain of salt. You have some freedom of exploration, but you're going to be stomped if you don't battle gyms and other challenges more or less in the correct order. And you're not going to be able to reach certain areas of the map either until you get the required Ride upgrade.

I think you should for sure. With the 2 DLC's there are so many Pokémon for you to collect. There is more than the gym challenges and I enjoyed the story it had. The added story to the DLC was my favorite and they added some of my favorite Pokémon. I think there will always be haters out there and that you should always try it out and experience it for yourself.
