Basically the person of the opposite gender that is your friend/rival.

    Yeah, I suppose.
I wanted to name Lucas in my game but it wouldn't let me o^o

Mehh, I usually don't care haha

Um...sure? I really don't care, so long as we don't get a rival named something stupid.

i just hope they don't blatantly name Soul Soul in the game

Yeah, it'd be a nice little feature added in there, though it wouldn't really matter either way, as long as I get to name Silver after one of my favorite villains from TV/games/movies. I usually name him Dr.Evil, but I think I might mix it up this time. :p

well, i think u can, although u couldnt name dawn or lucas (depending on which u chose) in DPP but since the original gold and silver do contain this feature then whynot...

I give the characters there official names anyway so its no problum for me

No. In 3rd gen, that was really stupid to have only 1 unnameable rival. But in DPPt, the role of the prof's assistant shouldn't be named "PWNED BY ME", it should have a default name, especially when we already have Barry in there. Same goes for Silver and Gold/Soul here. Plus, it doesn't matter for me which char can be named, cause i'm going to name them with their proper name (unless for the hero) from now on. Manga name if I know it, and if not, then the Anime/pre-game-release name.

The original Gold and Silver didn't have a female counterpart so how could you name her. Even in Crystal you didn't get to name the other character since they weren't in the storyline.

I really don't think it matters. It's not like it's a major element that affects gameplay or anything like that ;x. Plus like Hiroshi said, it's fun to get to find out what their actual name is supposed to be.

Meh, I'm indifferent about it. Names are just names...
