Chapter 1: The First Leg of a Journey, almost.
"Hitomi, wake up." Hitomi's mother said quietly as she opened her daughter's grey curtains, letting the blinding, bright sunlight through. "Time to go choose your Pokemon."
"Mom...." The girl in bed protested as she lifted her head. "How many times do I have to tell you?"
"Please, darling." Hitomi's mother gave her a sad look. "Your father and I want to talk to you downstairs."
"...." Hitomi stared for a minute, finger-combing some of her jet black hair away from her eyes. Finally, she sighed. "Okay..."
Her mother nodded silently before leaving her daughter's room, closing the door quietly behind her. Hitomi made her way to her closet, where she got out some random clothes and pulled them on. Hitomi knew what this talk would be about, she always knew. She had been given this talk every day for the past 2 years. She took a single glance in the body-length mirror and walked out, not even bothering to brush her teeth. She did look long enough to see what she was wearing.
A loose, black t-shirt hung off her frame, with a red vest over that. Hitomi also wore a pare of simple, dark blue jeans. They were stained and worn from all the abuse they have been going through lately.
"Hitomi, please sit down." Her father said quietly from the kitchen table as soon as she appeared. Her mother was sitting beside her father quietly.
"Yes, dad." She said and slumped onto the white, wooden chair. She had one arm over the backrest and her legs crossed over each other.
"Hitomi, you know what this talk is about, do you?" Her father asked.
"Yeah, you've been giving me this talk for the past two years." Hitomi said in a bored tone, her grey eyes watching the family's Goldeen swim around in circles in her tank.
"Then why don't you just listen to us and go on your Pokemon journey?" Her father asked, obviously disappointed.
"I've told you once and I've told you a million times, I don't like Pokemon!" Hitomi protested loudly.
"Please, Hitomi, listen to us." Her mother said sadly. "This journey is for your benefit. It's for you to learn and grow and make new friends."
"But mom!" Hitomi whined. "I don't want to do this! Besides, I don't even have a Pokemon."
"Professor Rowan might have some, but that's besides the point. You live on a Pokemon Breeding Center for goodness sakes! You have plenty of Pokemon to choose from!" Her father suddenly seemed angry, more so then he had ever been.
It was true, Hitomi's parents were Pokemon Breeders and she was born and raised on the Silver Absol Breeding Ranch. But despite this, she hated Pokemon. Hitomi had no plans on going on her Pokemon Journey, nor did she ever want to go, but her parents thought otherwise.
Hitomi worked at the hatchery barn on the ranch. She had seen almost every Pokemon in existence hatch before, and she was very knowledgeable of Pokemon in their young stages. She can identify what Pokemon are going to hatch out of an egg by just taking a glace and can effectively raise baby Pokemon.
"No, no way I'm going on a Pokemon Journey." Hitomi said matter-of-factly, crossing her arms.
Her mother gave her a look she had never seen before. "I know, darling, I know, but you have to. We have made arrangements for Kudo to come over and take you with him on a journey, you remember Kudo, do you?"
"What!?" Hitomi screamed, enraged. "You're forcing me to go on this journey?"
"We're sorry, Hitomi." Her father said. "But we have to, it's the only way. Besides, you can pick any Pokemon from the Silver Absol Pokemon Ranch, and you get to travel with Kudo. He'll come over next week to pick you up."
Hitomi have an enraged scream before storming up the stairs and slamming her bedroom door. She flung herself onto her bed and buried her head under her pillow. Kudo wasn't her problem, in fact, he was her best friend. She hated Pokemon, period.
Finally, after half an hour in this position, she rolled over on her back.
It had been a week... The longest week of Hitomi's life. She lay on her bed with her head buried under her pillow.
"Hitomi! Get up!" Her mother chirped as she came into the room and opened the curtains, whistling happily. "Time to open some presents."
"No thanks." Hitomi groaned, not bothering to look up.
"Aww, come on, darling." Hitomi's mother pulled her out of bed, standing her on her feet. "Get dressed and come downstairs."
Hitomi sighed as her mother skipped out of the room. She slowly dressed in the same outfit she had a week ago; black t-shirt, red vest and dark blue jeans. She finally found the willpower to drag herself down the stairs and slump onto her usual chair around the kitchen table. Bother her mother and father were beaming crazily at her.
"Congratulations, Hitomi! You're finally going!" Her father said happily.
"Whatever...." Hitomi rolled her eyes. "Not like I had a choice anyways."
"Here, open these." Her mother pushed a box as long as her arm in front of Hitomi's face. She also took out quite a few more boxes.
"Alright." Hitomi said quietly and lifted the lid off the long box. Inside, all lined up in a row were six Pokeballs. They shone when the sunlight hit them. She opened another box and found a backpack and sleeping bag just in case she needed to camp out during her adventure. The third and last box was a beginner pack with antidotes, potions, burn heals and things like that. Hitomi looked through all of them, but didn't seem too pleased.
There was a sudden knocking on the front door.
"Oh, that must be Kudo, I'll get the door. Hitomi, can you go get the Pokemon you chose?" Her mother said as she got up and made her way to the front door.
"I didn't pick a Pokemon yet." Hitomi said.
"But Hitomi, you had all week." Her father said, surprised. "And we told you to go and choose before Kudo arrived."
Hitomi sighed, rolling her eyes. "Fine, I'll go and find one."
She pushed her chair aside and got up, heading towards the back door. She pushed it open and took a deep breath of fresh air, her eyes scanning the barns scattered across the hillside and the fields that were full of Pokemon. She didn't spare a glance at any of those Pokemon, though. Hitomi headed towards the barn she knew the best; The hatchery.
Hitomi pushed the door to the hatchery open with one hand and strode inside. She switched on the light and immediately, it illuminated shelves and shelves of Pokemon eggs. They were all in different colours and patterns. She walked past all of the eggs on the shelves and opened up the door at the back of the room.
As she opened the door, a chorus of Pokemon calls and cries greeted her. In this room, the baby Pokemon that just hatched stayed.
She came in and closed the door behind her with a faint thud sound. As soon as she did, all the Pokemon cried out happily, all crowding around her. The baby Pokemon loved her, even if she didn't like Pokemon. Her eyes scanned the large room until she saw a faint flash of gold. She reached out and picked the Pokemon up.
A golden coloured Charmander squeaked happily, instantly hanging onto Hitomi's arm. Instead of the usual orange colour, this Charmander was a beautiful yellowish gold. She didn't know why this particular Charmander was a different colour, but someone had said something about it being a Shiny.
"Hitomi, wake up." Hitomi's mother said quietly as she opened her daughter's grey curtains, letting the blinding, bright sunlight through. "Time to go choose your Pokemon."
