Suggestion: Signature font sizes

Could we possibly change this rule in for signatures?

Text size can be no larger than 5.
Your signature cannot contain text in a higher size than 5 - or in CSS, 18pt.

I'm not asking to just bump it up to a larger number because that'd leave the door open for people to have huge paragraphs in their signature. I was thinking something like if your using a font size 40px then it has to stay on one line or that it has to be able to fit inside of a 500x300px box.

Do you think it could be done?

IIRC, before there weren't really a rule like that. It didn't really affect anyone, signatures were fine except for those with larger images than allowed. I don't really know why the staff added that new rule.

I think it's mostly just there as a general guideline because really big text is freaking annoying and very distracting. :/

We can't say "keep it to one line" because that's entirely dependent on screen resolution (what might be two lines on one resolution could be a short line on another). We've always had text rules and this one is much less confusing than the old one, which was based on lines.

As for fitting within a certain amount... I guess that makes sense but I stand by the "really large text is distracting" thing. If you must have text that big, I guess you could type it up in Paint or something and save it as an image so it doesn't go over the limit and make use of it that way. Can't guarantee a signature with a loophole like that wouldn't be disabled but it's an idea. (I personally would not vote for allowing larger text in signatures. :/)

Testing it for the 500px by 300px limit would be pretty tedious for checking.
It's already tedious enough adding smaller image dimensions together.

And yeah, I agree with ^ because if you really wanted big text, you could just make an image. I don't think there's anything wrong with having obscenely large text in an image, since some tags use big fonts too. If anything, I'd think it was a transparent tag with text on it :3 Er, plus, images can't wrap over on different resolutions and it would make it easier to check for 500x300 since it's not really text.

I still think that '24 (i think that's what it was?) px' should be put in the rules because it's the same size as 18pt but some people use px and others use pt. That's just my two cents. :x Other than that, I basically agree with the above; make an image if you want larger text, just as long as it's within the 500x300 limit it should be fine.

Good idea and added. :> As far as I know, on the web 24px = 18pt but they scale differently when printed.....I think. But I guess anyone who actually wants to print the page would (hopefully) use the printable version which removes signatures anyway.
