  • ooooooh yeah I forgot Blissey existed hahah!

Okay so I don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong, but when I patch a Clean FireRed ROM with the MrDollSteaks Decap/Moves patch, then try to edit anything to do with Pokemon or moves etc, I get a whole load of error messages saying the ini of the ROM is wrong. I tried with PGE and G3HS, but both spew Errors... is there a known bug or am I just not doing something right?!

The moves in both are just replaced by blank spaces with an occasional few nonsense characters.

You need to replace the inis since the offsets are shifted

  • Anyone know why I'm always getting the "Error: Image is not Indexed" error in unLZ-GBA? I'm trying to put sprites into a Ruby rom. The png image I'm trying to import is indexed, 64x64, and 16 colors. I used Ifranview to make it, as detailed in many tutorials.

You need to index it to 16 colors. If you're using windows 7 or higher you'll need to get windows XP paint. I also recommend using NSE or gen 3 hacking suite for random sprites and pokemon sprites respectively

  • It is indexed to 16 colors. I'm actually running unLZ-GBA and Irfanview on Linux using WINE. I use GIMP to make my sprites and Irfanview to reduce them to 16 color, 64x64 indexed pngs. I don't know if this is the issue. According to Help > About , I'm using the BETA1 version of unLZ-GBA. Is this thing still in beta? What's the latest release of it?

I'll try those tools and see if they work. Right now, I'm specifically trying to edit the Pokemon in-battle front sprites.

I understand that but it wont stop asking for variables. like thousands upon thousands of times. Ive never gotten it to stop asking me.
You have to input the variables and all other numbers as decimal not hexadecimal(ex: 10 instead of A) I figured this out after a while of trying. Repeatedly. If you don't know how to convert higher-up hex numbers(4050) into regular decimal numbers, just use a calculator or set something like the Microsoft calculator to 'scientific' or something. lol

    Simple questions, huh?

Is there any progress on the front of implementing Mega-Evolutions into 3rd gen games as of yet? Asking this as someone pretty new to this community. My first instinct is to think it wouldn't be overwhelmingly difficult if we could make use of the code for Castform's ability...
All that I can think of to make mega evolutions possible is:
(A): Keep researching forecast and figure out how it works, then use that knolige to make mega evolutions happen.
(B): Figure out how pokemon like unknown work in terms of forms; write a routine that can possibly do something with that, probably using extra spaces in the pokedex area.
(C): Figure out how transform works; modify it so that the pokemon transforms into the mega form for its species; find a way to make that a routine of its own that doesn't require a move or ability or whatever.

And as for making it usable, I'd say just make one of the buttons that does nothing in battle the way it is (I'm pretty sure L and R do nothing) bring up a messagebox asking if you'd like to mega evolve, or maybe just have the button do it automaticly. Some research would also need to be done to figure out how to make the mega evolution process occur without using a turn in battle.

So basicly adding mega evolutions would be pretty hard. Awesome, but hard.

  • Wow, thanks a lot, gogojjtech! The Gen III hacking suite is awesome. Waaaay more than I expected out of a single program. And it's available "natively" for Linux, too. Kudos to the developers.

  • I got a black screen after doing warp testing. The warps should be working and the map is inserted, I can even walk through the door with the proper sound. Just, it sends me to a black screen. Any information on why it does that or what I did wrong?

EDIT: This may be helpful if someone answers. The warp works fien in the map editor, just not in the rom.

When it turns into black screen, is the player still visible? If not, it hangs. You might have done something to the map that the player was trying to warp on.

I've heard expanding existing maps can cause problems down the line in Emerald if I let Amap repoint them. Is there a way I can do it myself if this is true?

Have you set the warp number to a warp that actually exists? Does the player physically go through the door or just disappear when walking into it?

As far as I know there isn't a limit but you might need a bit more freespace than the map uses if you're editing, so you'd need to repoint it.

There is a limit, and amap 1.92 lets you know that you're surpassing it. Also, it auto repoints to safety if you allow it to. Just don't use 1.95

I heard especially in Emerald that Amap has the potential to overwrite some data that already exists?

If you search for 00 bytes instead of FF bytes, it will damage the music in the game.
