Thinking of the age of the game producers, Hitmonchan/Ebiwalar and Hitmonlee/Sawamular are probably from Hiroyuki Ebihara and Tadashi Sawamura respectively.

The Japanese Hitmonlee dex entry even references "The Demon of Kicking" too, pretty nice IMO.

It's called a Blobfish. It is found far under the surface of the water. It is a bottom feeder and thus does not need many structural body parts to move around. It doesn't have that many predators because it probably tastes really bad judging from its appearance :P

Actually Mudikip is based on that. See

Mudkip = Axolotl​

Axolotls don't have that obnoxious fin or that webbed tail.
Besides, Mudkip is obviously a mudfish.

Incidentally, I learned about axolotls on my children's programming way back when and I was delighted when they made Wooper.

I think its safe to say that Mudkips appearance was inluenced by both. The tail on the Axolotl stif fits too.

Er, Wooper's French name is Axoloto and Mudkip's Japanese name means "Water Mudskipper."
Also @ Omega: It's sort of hard because those are all humanoid :D
Drapion is just a scorpion :P
