Social Networks: Are they making us less social?

Yeah. Think about it. Your sitting there typing something to your friends. They'll see it, they'll type back to you. But there's no real social stimulation going on. To be social, you should be outside (or inside) talking to one another! That is social interaction. Writing and typing will not have the same social stimulation.

I'm not sure about Thomas' question, considering I don't use any social network. I just wanted to speak my mind.
 
I don't understand why typing to someone is so different to talking to them. The only thing that typing to someone lacks is tone of voice, which can be made up for by careful use of words. I don't see where there is a great difference tbh, at least, not just in conversation. It's not like you can actually do stuff with someone over the internet though.
 
Not really following the entire discussion here, just throwing in my two cents.

My friends and I are probably MORE social offline than online, and most of us use Facebook constantly. Maybe because we're the weird kids and not the "average" person, but... yeah.
 
I think i depends on the way you use it.
