Some avatar help

I was wondering if some one could turn these two pictures.......

.......into an animated avatar? I don't have the program to make things like this.

BTW, this avatar will be for a different site, and I'll credit the one who animated it.

I think it's possible, even though I don't see the difference between the two pictures. I use Imageready to animate my graphics. Other people might use GIMP or animation shop.

OK, so I installed Gimp. Everythings here and on the screen, but, I have no idea how to use it.

I would like the next post give me the steps it would require to animate this. (sorry if I sound demanding.)

BTW, the difference between the two pictures is the second one has his mouth open.
