Hey people. I'm learning rom hacking but I want to know which tools/programs are the best/needed. And if I'm to make a whole new region (for testing purposes for now) do I need a base rom or something?

    Thanks.

Start with A-Map for Mapping and XSE for Scripting :). They're the most essential tools, as every ROM Hack needs new maps and scripts (or altered, at least).

    Thanks for the reply.
Any idea which version of A-map I should use?

1.95 is a bit glitchy, so I would use 1.92 - seems to be the standard :).

Since XSE and A-Map have already been mentioned, I'd like to suggest OW Editor too - new overworld sprites aren't like a necessity, but they definitely make the look of the game feel a lot fresher. =)

Having trouble finding XSE 1.1.1, found some old version and tried a very simple script but it wasn't working :/
