What are some songs that make you feel empowered, in any sense of the word?

Has any of this impacted your life significantly? Made you do something that you otherwise normally wouldn't do? Make you discover something about yourself? Can you recall a specific event where one of these songs made you feel empowered and you did something from it?

Even though I'm not gay, and obviously the song I'm about to mention is mainly aimed at that group, I'd say Born This Way is an empowering song for me. Like I said, I'm not gay, but it does include and imply more than just LGBT people. Those with disabilities, different races, etc and idk. It's just a song that really brings up my mood and makes me realize hey, I was born this way. And if anybody feels the need to complain about how I am, they can suck my toe jam. Not only that though, but it gives me a sense of unity. idk how to describe it though...just...idk. Don't look at me funny.

My very first thought was Born This Way as well 9_9 not gay either but it's just so...uplifting and pure, who couldn't feel empowered from it? It encourages identity and importance, a true anthem.

Um, well this is a dumb one, but when I'm on a run and Summerboy [again by Lady G] comes on my iPod, I just get really jacked up, really excited and start subconsciously pounding really hard until I realize I'm running out of breath. The lyrics describe a summer fling, but the notes- the beat, the rythm- I dunno, they're exhilirating =D

Glitter in the Air by Pink. The part in the bridge where she belts out "la la la la" etc and then holds onto the last "la", it's always caused an image of like a King pointing his sword at the sky in victory xD That part used to get stuck in my head during track races, and I remember one specific time in my 800m where I actually won my heat, and even as I crossed the finish I could hear those la's. Maybe that's why I associate it with victory lol. Also, I sent my friend an audio clip of me singing that part really soulfully but poorly- it's no secret that I'm the worst singer in the world while all my friends are beautiful singers. Anyway, she set it as her ringer for the entire summer 9_9

A few years ago I was struggling to write a short story for English class- I just couldn't come up with any ideas. And guess what I did- I hit up my music. When I Look at You, by Miley Cyrus, became my inspiration, and I used the song as a building point for my story. I'm usually pretty humble but that was one damn good, dramatic story, and I remember my teacher- that whiney biotch of a woman- wrote that it was the best story a student of hers had ever written. It was only her third year teaching but still xD And so whenever I hear When I Look at You, I immediately think of that story which I might actually be proud of ^.^

It's niche, and no one's going to know who or what I'm talking about, but...

Still Alive by Luke Conard and Ryan Seiler. This is the only song on the planet ever to actually force me to do revision. And so I have to credit it with getting me a bunch of important qualifications that I thought didn't matter at the time, which are now proving instrumental in getting my life back on track.

Also, Luke has a pet Gengar which talks. (Seriously.) So there's Poké-relevance points right there.

i've always felt empowered when i hear the song "dare you to move" by switchfoot.
i'm a naturally competitive person; i always try to outdo and prove myself whenever the chance presents itself, which is exactly why that certain song works for me. whenever i'm depressed or lacking in motivation, i just listen to that song and think to myself, "okay switchfoot, you dare me to do something about my current situation? challenge accepted."

Megadeth's "This Day We Fight!" fills me with determination for whatever situation it is. I use that determination mostly for school/uni/whatever exams. Such aggressive riffs and epicly written lyrics make me say to myself "let's get this S over with". It makes me get rid of that nervous anxiety before the exams.

I think many songs by A Perfect Circle are very empowering.

Despite whatmany say "Oh, their songs are about drugs." No, in fact most are actually about government/politics/real life issues. (I understand drugs is a real life issue, but I'm referring to things such as war, and their children etc)

When I listen to "Passive", "Pet", "Judith", and "The Noose" I feel very empowered. They also go over religion in "Judith"

Me not believing in the Christian God, and unsure of any God, I am able to relate to this song.

A lot of their songs just make me want to fight (metaphorically speaking), to stand up for what I believe in I suppose is a better way to put it.

The Physics of Gridlock by Pain of Salvation is like my anthem anymore. It's like a grand finale of sorts (which is technically true) and it's got something for pretty much everyone if you want to dig a bit.

    We're all longing to belong.
We're all longing to be home.
    Invincible young and strong.
    But we lost it all.
When we turned life into a road.
    A direction towards a goal.
Ending where no one really wants to go.

It's one of their few songs that aren't incredibly depressing.

You've said everything I needed to say. Born This Way always makes me smile. Glitter in the Air by Pink is phenominal. Her live performance of it at the Grammys and on her Funhouse Tour is just epic.

The song itself is lyricless, but "Finished Symphony" by Hybrid has been a song that had effected me emotionally in the past. It was the song I listened to as I was driving my vehicle to a city quite a ways away, moving out of my home, the place that I had stayed with my parents for almost 16 years (I was 18) to go to college. The song that reminded me of the freedom, and the loneliness that comes with it at first.

It is a song that helped me embrace it all, it is a really beautiful song too for Orchestral techno.
