[News] Sony has quietly updated its PS5 packaging to remove mention of 8K support

Sony Interactive Entertainment has quietly updated its PlayStation 5 packaging to remove mention of 8K support.

It's unclear precisely when the new packaging was rolled out, but the company launched the PS5 Slim model last November with 8K still emblazoned on the product's box (pictured above).

While retailers like Amazon and Walmart are still listing PS5 consoles with the old packaging, none of the various PS5 boxes pictured on Sony's PlayStation Direct store still carry the 8K claim.

Sony started branding TVs that support 8K and 120 fps as "PS5 ready" as early as July 2020.

PS5 officially received its first ever 8K 60fps game, The Touryst, in October 2021, but Sony never activated 8K output on the console with a system update as originally planned.

Yeah, hmmm. PS5 Pro gonna get it?

No, even if I had the money to afford a hypothetical PS5 pro; I'd rather just buy a gaming PC when most of Sony's exclusives are put on there anyway.

I don't even have a 4K TV in the first place, let alone 8K, and I do 99% of my gaming on PC or Steam Deck anyway, so I'm not interested in the PS5 either way.
