Spam-cleaning made easy?

From what I can see, at least from where I'm typing, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but; spamming is a problem here at PC, deny it as you will, but it's true. I know it's not possible to ban everyone in sight, or ban n00bs for being...well...n00bs (not just picking on them, but it's an example). I know you guys have probably been thinking up everything short of becoming Nazis...but if I may...make a suggestion.

Why don't you make a completely separate forum for that kind of stuff, so that all the bad will filter out of what we love about PC. You could link it in the thingie above that already links to different sights. You could put rules up limiting the use of spam, but keep it broad enough so that people won't decide to come into PC and start spamming. That way everyone can have a clean, spam free enviroment here to get along, and meet other people, and do what PC was meant to be for, and I doubt that was for spam.

Or are you saying mods should relocate spam to a special forum? That would be too much work I think o.o

I don't really get what you're saying....but, I highly doubt the majority of peeps who come to PC just love to spam. Therefore a forum for it would also seem like we have a huge problem with it and might not make others want to join. :\

I don't think a SPAM forum will help in the long run. I think it would be better to teach the new members how to properly post, instead of having a place to do that. Then, in the end, you have good members. ^^
...if only there was a good way to do that *sigh*

A place to go SPAM might reinforce the whole SPAM thing in the end. If they find a place to SPAM, they might be like "hey, it must be okay to SPAM", come back and do it here as well.
But that's just me. o_O

I just hope I fully understood what you were telling us ^^;

EDIT: And I don't believe that SPAM keeps us alive at all. There's plenty of good posts everyday. If we got rid of the SPAM somehow, I think it'd still be an active forum. ^^;

SS, but the problem is. It's impossible to teach someone not to spam, that's like trying to teach someone to rp better, it's been done, but it just doesn't work.

To solve a problem, one must ISOLATE the problem before he or she is able to solve it. So whether that be by a forum, sub-forum, thread, or what have you. By isolating spam, only then can one get rid of it.

If we isolate spam entirely, that would also be lots more work on the staff's part, more reports of spam that could just be ignored would most likely annoy them.

Isolating it would be like putting people with a cold in a sanitarium. That still won't stop the cold from happening :\

I just learn to live with it. It's easy just to ignore it and move on if they don't flat out break a rule.

Anyway, I don't think it's such a good idea. If it got rid of the n00bs and the spammers then I'd be all for it. But it's not going to happen that way. n00bs don't know any better and won't learn anything. Thus they are not going to go off to some other board and be n00bish over there. Spammers come to have fun by making everyone mad and get banned. They don't come here going "Hm... I think I'm going to spam PokeCommunity today, but I hope I don't get banned.", so they are not going to go off to some n00b board to have fun.
And if you're talking about members (as in ones that posts good around PC but every now and then make pointless posts) making pointless posts (aka spam) then that's what warnings are for. Again they are not going to run off to some spam board to make a pointless post.

Even if you made a spam board just for people to spam in with no limitations, that doesint stop poeple who spam on purpose, I myself know nine people here who spam for the heck of it and wont stop just cause theres a board made just for them . In all right I just suggest we continue what we are doing for the spam and thats that, more mods would be nice but there isint much you could do about that when the mods are so overworked on watching other mods to be sure the new ones are doing there job o_O.

All in all.... I think this would be a horible Idea and I would not be shocked if someone came around and did something about what was just said. Making spammers aware that you know there around. Just ticks them off and can get them to be three times worce o_o I think the spam has been delt with better then any other forum. So inless little pervs and such stoped signing into the site there is no way for them to stop spam .

As for the new users * N00bes* they cant help themselfs and it's just best to be nice about it =D I wouldint be here if I wasint a n00bie at some point and time XD Heck I still think I am in some areas of the forum but making a thred saying n00bs are making the post really effends me O_O Thus possibly doing the same for other people and could highten rage on the site.. All in all... I agree with andy . but still

I suggest we Respect the mods here and enjoy the site we have, they are doing their best and making spam worce then it is really wont help them. Alot of threads have been made about this and befor any more feel like there just crud on a stick, I suggest people just deal with the spammers. There is such a thing as being "Adults" above them and not lower to their level.

I think it'd be a nice idea. My forum's had a spam forum for ages (since the incarnation before this one, IIRC) and it's proved very successful. People actually use it for their spam, even though there's no post count, and we can also split spam posts into there, as well as move spam threads.

Agreed o_o If you look threw the site we already have seven places for people to just go at it and spam the day away XD Thats where I goof around and just jump from place to place acting like a idiot ^^~!
But ether way I dont know about even haveing those around for much longer, this site was ment for pokemon and if you add all sorts of crud like that then it makes pokemon worth less then what they are and people just come here for the heck of spammage.
In this sense though I think spam has already lowered some with post count meening next to nothing anymore and rep points are dead o_o. If anything I would vote ten times more for Rep and Post count being killed off forever then I would for this here.
