This thread is basically just making the past few PMs from -ty- and I public, in a more organised manner.
-ty-'s Ideas:
Hey partner!
Thought that you might want to throw around some ideas :)
-ty- made some make-shift trophies for first through fifth: going with the "ten year" theme, it includes the 10th Pokemon of each of the five generations for each trophy. The ranking is also in order of generation. More than gold/silver/bronze will encourage more people to compete.
- Neon Color Restriction, since Neon's atomic number is ten.
- Sprite a generation 10 Pokemon.
-- What will Pokemon look like ten years from now?
- 10 colour palette restriction
Alterations 1:
The trophies belittle themselves because they're all relatively weak Pokémon, despite the good reasoning.
For the Generation X one, we should do "what will Pokémon will look like ten years from now?". In other words, repose a Pokémon in a different style to the ordinary.
For the palette contest, we should go with something relatively tricky. Perhaps very high-contrast 8 colours that cant be used for shading in the convential sense without hue shifting, black, and white.
I also think that maybe creating a piece of pixel art in a canvas of 10x10 would be a good challenge.
Alterations 2:
We should use Pokémon with an "X" symbol on them:
Sharpedo
Drifblim
Drifloon
Metagross
Koffing
Weezing
Plusle
Luxray
Luxio
Shinx.
Contests decided:
- Pokemon Future Repose
- Neon Pallette - 10 Color Palette (combine the Neon Pallete and 10-color competition)
- 10x10 (Item) Sprite
With these three contests, we could have three medals per competition-gold, silver, and bronze. Then, to encourage people to enter all of the contests, have one large trophy for the overall spriter in all of the spriting competions. In order to be eligible one must enter all 3 sprites.
Another idea would be to have them enter one piece, on a bit larger canvas maybe 200x200. Then, they would have to include one 10x10 item of their making, follow the neon palette restrictions, and include a futuristic repose of one Pokemon in order to make their pixel-art scenery. We could still allocate medals for the individual sprites within the artwork, or just have an overall placing.
Alterations 3:
More makeshift images. A test for the Metagross gold trophy.
Makeshift logo.
Alterations 4:
The Metagross and the Logo look great. It would be more thematic if we use an "X" instead of the "10".
Also, to help get the "X" Symbol across in the Metagross, the "X" portion shouold be red, kind of like an "X marks the spot"?
We should replace the "10" in the logo with a Red "X", still with the drip mark.
Oh, for the repose competition. maybe we could do a pirate theme going along with the "X" marks the spot.
