1000 years before Darth Bane made the 1 Sith Lord & 1 Sith Apprentice rule and about 3000 years after the death of Malak, there were much more Sith Lords than Dark Jedi because anyone could become one. All you would need is a red lightsaber crystal and a Darth name. There were also many light Jedi, but not as much as Sith Lords. Most Sith Lords were against eachother. But at one time, the Sith all attacked the Jedi at once, and it was believed to be coincidental. Many Jedi were caught off guard and killed. The living Jedi decided to join up and destroy the Sith. They all gathered at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and prepared for their attack.

Other Info: He was born on dantoinne, and when he was about 7 years old mandalorians raided his farm and he was left for dead, with all of his family dead. He stowed-away on a ship to Coruscant, and when he reached the planjet, he was force sensitive and they trained him up to be a jedi. Over the 22 years of training, he became a jedi master tainted with the darkside from trying to seek revenge on all mandalorians.

Other Info: Raised by a family of smugglers, he spent most of his life fending for himself after his family were murdered by a Bounty Hunter. He sought to seek revenge by attempting to control his powers of the force. He was a gifted child and sent to the Jedi Academy of Coruscant by his best friend's mother. He obtained his starship by lightsaber duels when he abandoned his Jedi training at the age of 26. He returned at the age of 33 with his powers in complete control and he reached the rank of Jedi Knight after slaying a Sith Assasinator. During his years of secret training, he went undercover as a smuggler to receive money to customize his starship to win a race to save the love of his life. However, he made the most important decision of his life and abandoned her for his life as a jedi. He begun his Jedi training at the age of 12, only after 5 months of deciding was he allowed to being his training. The Jedi legend for-told that those late of Jedi training who begin, are seduced to the power of the dark side. The Jedi masters took extra care of Garan because they knew that he was powerful.

Also, you should note that the Jedi only use their powers for defence. Never for offense. Offense leads to the dark side. Whenever you see a good Jedi fighting in the movies, it's because they are defending themselves. However, with the exception of Obi-Wan and Anakin versus Dooku cos it was kinda defence for the Republic. Actually, this is kinda like Defence cos a good defence, is usually a good offense.
