Starting Up Questions

Well then, I spent the last 2-3 hours looking at the wiki and kit. I would first like to say that I'm extremely impressed at what has been done here. I have a few noob questions before starting just in case.

Let's say I just want to make a vanilla Pokemon game (keep same Pokemon, moves, abilities, items, TMs), then what I would need to do is:
    • create maps
    • create events for maps
    • edit encounters.txt
    • edit trainers.txt
    • edit metadata.txt (?)

I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, and go from there. Thanks for the help!

Those sound like most of the major areas, as events can cover a massive range of possibilities.

The only other one I would immediately flag up would be graphics. Even if you're using all the same Pokemon, and the default tilesets, graphics include absolutely everything visible in your game.

Even for a simple game, you might wish to have things such as unique gym leaders, which would require both new trainer sprites and new overworlds, or at least altering some of the existing ones somewhat, to make them more individualised. Additionally there is the title screen, which you'll likely want to alter to show your game's name etc.

    Good luck though!
