Pokemon Shattered is a hack that I have been very interested in making for a long time, it is a idea still, but I have big plans for this hack if I can learn how to hack and build a team together.
My first idea is the story, and this is my pitch. I would love feedback. *This is a dark hack.

    Opening

Notes of the regions Yin and Yang:
Each region originally has two legendary pokemon defending them, Yin has Yinhakai and Yindifenda (Japanese for Yin Destruction and Yin Defender). Yang has Yanghakai and Yangdifenda (Japanese for Yang Destruction and Yang Defender). Neither region has attacked each other and all differences are settled on neutral ground in between the two regions. Each of the legendaries were kept in check by the legendary Pokemon Baransu (Japanese for Balance). For some yet unknown reason, he momentarily was unable to keep the legendaries in check, and in the span of a couple days, the damage was done as you will see.

You (10 Years Old) are in your home town of Yin Lake in the region of Yin. You live in a medium sized town which is suddenly attacked by the legendary Pokemon Yanghakai, the Pokemon of destruction from the neighboring region of Yang. After each trainer is defeated by Yanghakai, their souls are absorbed by Yanghakai making him stronger. Nearing the end of the attack, the professor and you are the only one's standing. In a attempt to save you the professor sends his Salamance to take you to the capital of Yin as he fights of Yanghakai so you can survive.

With Yanghakai's attack on the Yin region, Yindifenda awakens from Yin lake to fight Yanghakai. The battle destroys the lake and both the defender of the Yin region and aggressor of the Yang region are destroyed in the process, both turned into stone. With this attack, balance was shattered in the region as the lake of Ying was destroyed and two regional guardians are killed. The protecter of the regions of Ying and Yang awakens. Her name, Baransu. In a attempt to restore balance, Baransu does equal damage to the Yang region, this provokes a war in between the two nations and the defender of the Yang region, Yangdifenda to attack Baransu. Baransu is gravely injured and returns to his home in between the two regions to heal. Over the next six years many people die and the war ends between the region, both sides rebuild. On each island a cult rises to support their still standing fighters. Yinhakai for the Yin region and Yangdifenda for the Yang region. Each of them trying to spark another war to ensure that they control the region whatever the cost.

You, now 16 are living on your own in the recently rebuilt town of Yin Lake. After seeing multiple news stories of the cults on each island beginning to cause chaos across each region, you decide to fight back rather than be a bystander should another war break out. As you leave your town to journey and find your first Pokemon, you are given a Pokemon by a stranger that found it weak just outside of the lake. It is a unknown Pokemon but has colors of black and white stretched across it's body, as you take it to be healed, it somehow teleports you into a black room with three elemental orbs, water, fire, or grass. One of these can be melded with your new friend, as you choose, you return to your town and your journey begins. *This is intended to be a reborn legendary Pokemon

I would love to hear criticism about this idea of an opening into a game.

Well, first above all, two regions is a bit too much, the roles of the legendaries isn't really explained well and we don't even know why they exist other than to progress the plot, warfare between regions isn't been a thing in the games and I don't see why everyone would go to war just because some legendaries killed each other and the story seems to include death only to serve as shock value and to make the story seem "dark and gritty" when it's not. Cults are also pretty overdone and the whole soul stealing part also seems like it's trying to sound dark and serious, but it comes off as edgy. The concept isn't bad I guess, but rework the story to make more sense, don't try to add edgy elements to sound serious and instead focus on actual mature themes and storytelling to make your game appeal to the older audience.
