For those aware, it's Origins time, with the Pokemon TCG tournaments well underway. It's actually a milestone for me, for it's been 5 years since my first sojourn to Origins, or my first major-league con. After a turbulent start, I was becoming successful in the Mod and Unlimited tours with high-ish rankings (but never to first). Ironically, my true success wouldn't be until my total victory of the final Unlimited tour (5 years tomorrow), as that never occurred before in my gamer life.
So, for those that made the leap to the "big leagues," like Origins, GenCon, etc, what's your greatest victory, (so far)? If you can tell a story, as well, that would be nice. That also includes prizes if you want bragging rights. Heh.
The tour I won, I faced a Sneasel/Rocket's Zapdos deck, a Sneasel/Slowking deck, a Brock's Ninetales deck, another Sneasel deck and a Meganium deck. All of that vs. my straightforward Dark Gengar, Rocket's Scyther and Neo Rev Shuckle deck. Two were beaten by sheer brute strength (first and last opponents), the second player barely said a word, and I simply stalled him while he burned his deck, the third one was a passive-aggressive sociopath waiting to snap my neck and the fourth one would have had me, weren't for a well placed Pull In against a Baby.
Honestly, I was amazed at my success, for the deck was untested at a bonfide tour, but was above-average in League battles. So, armed with that knowledge and figuring my overall odds of the past few days, I decided to experiment, for there was nothing to lose. Funny how that works.
From all that, I acquired a sealed box of Skyridge. All told, I won three and a half boxes and a truckload of holo Energies from 03 Origins. I also had similar success in Origins 04 (also won the final Unlimited tour, and the first match was against a major rival of mine), but not so much in prizes. Heh.
So, that's my mini-synopsis, for what it's worth -- what's your success story?
I'll try to remember the other battles I won at both Origins, if I can. Though, not all were as memorable as the above (plus my own faulty memory).
