4th Gen Suggestions fer the Elite Four? :P

I feel very nooby compared to everyone; I have yet to vs the Elite Four.
My team so far:

Gyarados Lv. 36
-Rock Smash (weak, I know.)
-Whirlpool (once again ^)
-Waterfall-
-Ice Fang

Feraligatr Lv. 44
-Surf
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Avalanche

Lugia Lv. 45
-Fly
-Extrasensory
-Hydro Pump
-Aeroblast

Dragonair Lv. 40
-Slam
-Aqua Tail
-Thunder
-Dragon Rush

Magmar Lv. 40
-Lava Plume
-Strength
-Faint Attack
-Fire Punch

Ampharos Lv. 43
-Signal Beam
-Thunderpunch
-Thundershock
-Discharge

Okay, so I get that I haven't spent time training them like I should've. But any suggestions about moves or Pokemon choices? Also, what level threshold d'you think I should reach before challenging the Elite Four fer the first time? Thanks (x

I suggest removing those weak HM's and really just more grinding to get in the lvl 46-48 range. The team you have is pretty good (although I fail to see why you would have two water type physical attackers.) If you need an hm slave, wooper can learn all 3 water hm's and flash(a tm). Rattata and geodude are good too.

Team Help threads are not allowed here, so going to close. The levels you are at now are fine enough though to take them on (you could even be lower) - taking some healing items will always help though. =p Besides that seems all right - as said lose some of those HMs if you want to use stuff like Gyarados for your team(it could use a bit of training if so I suppose then).
