    Popped up as an idea in the name change thread by Igiko in which people were suggesting trying to persuade more people to donate so we can upgrade the server, which in turn might make name changes viable in the future. But really I'm not suggesting this in lieu that we might get name changes in the future, just so we can benefit the community more!

    So we could hold a competition where people enter the draw by donating (possibly with a minimum amount to stop people donating ridiculously low amounts just to enter) but basically it is like a raffle, where instead of buying a ticket, you buy a supporter-ship.
    There could be a few different prizes, and really they are all interchangeable and up for suggestion, but I thought of like emblems, maybe blogging privileges before actually reaching Tier 3 status.

    So yeah, raffles are always fun and encourage people to spend money, why not do it to benefit the community?

    Thoughts?
     
    It could also be seen as an incentive for those who aren't sure whether to donate or not, AND an excuse to get some advertising in announcements and stuff perhaps showing users who aren't aware that they can donate.
     
    I think this is an awesome idea and I'm totally up for it to go on. Sounds like so much fun! One question I'm sorta confused about, is there a particular amount you have to pay or something..confusing me slightly?
     
    Well that's up for discussion. I'm not sure exactly what the minimum donation amount is, because obviously we don't want people donating like $0.05 and getting to enter the draw. That said, we don't want to make it too high to deter people...

    So maybe a few dollars as a minimum, again, depends on the minimum donation amount as well though.

    EDIT: This actually lends itself to actually having a price on 'tickets'. Like, say $3 buys you one ticket, you could have higher chance of winning if you pay more than this. Otherwise it could just be everybody who donates over the minimum has an equal chance.
    All things to consider I guess!
     
    Cool, I understand now! Because $0.05 really isn't worth anything much. I was thinking of having the price somewhat $3-$5 and I like the idea of everyone else having an equal chance. Also this raffle is continuous?
     
    If it were continuous, a winner would never be selected.
    We'd pick a length of time, maybe a month or something like that which gives plenty of people the opportunity to decide on if they want to enter, and to work out the funding and stuff. But yeah, not continuous. It could be done more than once, but it would have to end.
     
    Emblems are boring and lag modcp /bias against more emblems

    You could do like a coloured usertitle for the winner, 'cause that was meant to be done for something else but wasn't, and tier 6's didn't get it like discussed in that thread, and a coloured usertitle won't really harm anything.

    Liking this idea though!
     
    This is the first idea I've seen in this forum that actually makes sense.

    Colored titles would be cooooooool...~ (I miss mine :()

    That is incredibly true.

    I really like this idea, and it could be really fun to see who wins, plus it helps the community a lot because people are donating.

    I would actually love to have a colored usertitle ;-;
     
    Great thread, Moments. Although I'm not sure how many members actually care enough about Emblems to pay to enter a raffle in which you can win them. Blogging priveliges in Tier 2, by the way, and $10 is not far off from a T1 Supportership. Regardless, an idea did spring in my head when I thought you were using Igiko's thread to lead into Name Changes as a possible prize for these raffles, which would be a p good idea, as long as it was done once/twice a year, maybe more, I'm not sure exactly of what our server can and cannot withstand.

    EDIT: I keep reading the title as "Supporter Battle" when I'm viewing the main index and this is the most recent thread in Supporter HQ and wondering what a supporter battle is, accordingly.

    Yeah emblems I realise aren't the best incentive, plus there are Nica's reasonings, but seriously give ideas everyone if you have them.

    But the name change thing, that would be a massive prize and I'm sure heaps of people would donate with that as an incentive. Obviously the damage on the server of one name change (maybe a few more though) should be compared against how much the server benefits from the donations. If it's viable, I'm sure PC will absolutely rake in the cash!

    But yeah, feel free to build on the idea, obviously I'm not saying what it should be, just a foundation.
     
    Well, server upgrades are very expensive, so unless it's done continuously AND it tends to be really successful, it probably wouldn't be enough to fund anything long term. (Server upgrades aren't a one-time payment or anything... whatever extra money we'd get to make the upgrade we'd have to get every month. :P) But extra funds are always useful so I'd be okay with something like this, and I'd be okay with prizes like a coloured user title. (Though I haven't spoken to anyone else about this so my personal approval is not official approval. xD)

    But name changes couldn't be done. The problem with them was, especially for people with a lot of posts/VMs/blog entries, every time we did ANY name change, the database had a chance of crashing... so it's not just a "do less name changes in a year" issue, it's more of a "doing any name changes at all" issue. D:
     
    Well maybe a way to go with this is to go continuous, and say we draw a winner every month or something like that, and just have it continually going. So anybody who donates within a specific month goes into the draw, then after that month is over / after a winner is chosen, then the entries are cleared and starts again.

    Something like that could work, pretty much just to increase donations, I know that I'd definitely donate again if I had the chance to win something. xP
