Hi Everybody. I'm doing a survey about Pokemon cards for my economics class and I could really use your help. If you have a few minutes, please fill out my survey. Thank you.

    1. Why did you begin collecting Pokemon cards?

    2. Do you/have you traveled to compete in Pokemon card tournaments? If so, how far did you travel?

    3. What do you like best about the game?

    4. How often do you purchase new cards?

    5. How would you compare the Pokemon Trading Card game to other card games such as Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh?

In terms of active TCG players, this site is rather empty. I'd recommend using the Gym for a better representation.

    1. Why did you begin collecting Pokemon cards?
Started when it was a craze, so it was almost a normal thing to do. After that I stopped for a number of years due to lack of money, until my cousin visited from Asia (where it was still popular) and got me back into the game.

    2. Do you/have you traveled to compete in Pokemon card tournaments? If so, how far did you travel?
Now that I've moved to London, I can take me 30minutes on a bus. Before it used to take me around 2hours by train. Eitherway, I don't have the time these days.

    3. What do you like best about the game?
I find that some cards just have an amazing potential for strategy. The fun, chance of winning and having a hobby that actually requires thinking appeals to me.

    4. How often do you purchase new cards?
Very rarely -unless I want to build a deck. I always find that the sets are being released to quickly after each other which puts me off buying.

    5. How would you compare the Pokemon Trading Card game to other card games such as Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh?
    Magic = Never played
YGO = Probably the most ridiculous TCG around. Tried it & hated it, due to overdependence on luck, stupid rules and repetitivity

    1. Why did you begin collecting Pokemon cards?
When my sister's boyfriend gave me a pack of them and then I just kept getting them. I started collecting more of them when I started to go to tournaments. Pokemon is also welcome to beginners.

    2. Do you/have you traveled to compete in Pokemon card tournaments? If so, how far did you travel?
I go to almost every Tournament in my state. I once went to one about 110 miles away.

    3. What do you like best about the game?
I like how you can make friends(and enemies, XD) while playing the game and how the game is all about strategy.

    4. How often do you purchase new cards?
Whenever I have money to buy cards. If all the money I have is $4 then I will spend it all on 1 pack of cards.

    5. How would you compare the Pokemon Trading Card game to other card games such as Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh?
Magic:Is a fun game but is too complicated and advanced for beginners.
Yu-Gi-Oh:I used to play this TCG until I got really bored with it. No one really played them that much so I switched to pokemon.

Hoped that helped, and I agree with Jaimes. More TCG players from around the world go to the Pokegym.

    1. Why did you begin collecting Pokemon cards?

Because Pokeymanz was the biggest thing since forever when I was a kid. I did stop collecting as I grew up, though.

Why did I start collecting again? I was in Toys R Us, and I was feeling nostalgic. And it just grew from there.

    2. Do you/have you traveled to compete in Pokemon card tournaments? If so, how far did you travel?

No. When I was a kid, I never won a single game- I was bad at it. And since I just recently picked the game up again, I haven't had the opportunity to go to a tournament.

    3. What do you like best about the game?

    The fact that it's Pokeymanz.

    4. How often do you purchase new cards?

    About 2-4 times a month.

    5. How would you compare the Pokemon Trading Card game to other card games such as Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh?

I've never played Magic, but I've played a bit of Yu-Gi-Oh. From what I can see, Yu-Gi-Oh is much faster paced, and much more dependent on single draws. One draw really can change everything. Pokemon, however, is much slower paced, and more focused on running on a theme- be it Gardellade, Blissey, or Hurricane. It's also much more focused on drawing and searching for cards, as opposed to sacrificing a Sangan to get what you need. It's also a bit less tense, as you never need to worry about walking into an opponent's Trap Card. And as a whole, Pokemon is easier to get into than Yu-Gi-Oh: with Pokemon, you only need to be familiar with cards in the Modified format, while with Yu-Gi-Oh, you have the entire card catalog to worry about.

    That's my bit. FILLERFILLER.

    1. Why did you begin collecting Pokemon cards?
Because everyone else at my primary school was :P

    2. Do you/have you traveled to compete in Pokemon card tournaments? If so, how far did you travel?
    No

    3. What do you like best about the game?
The way it mirrors the videogame - six pokemon total, same status effects, items, etc.
The ability to make themed decks also excites me more than the tournament scene.

    4. How often do you purchase new cards?
    Never

    5. How would you compare the Pokemon Trading Card game to other card games such as Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh?[/QUOTE]
I progressed from Pokemon onto Magic; in my opinion, Magic has much deeper and thought-provoking gameplay. At times, less fun, but it allows more creativity than pokemon, which still is essentially "play good pokemon, attack to win". Pokemon is much better for teaching to children though, because of its simplicity.
I have never played yugioh but by all accounts it is shallow and repetitive, with clear 'winning cards' and little diversity.
