dont you just find it a bit unfair that every one in the pokemon games on the sea routes can swim and dont have to beat the right gym leader and then find the HM

Well, you don't need a badge to swim, just for your Pokemon to learn to swim on big waves on the ocean. :3 Chances are, you're so young and inexperienced in water that you don't have the skills necessary to swim there. Not swim in a pool or something, but actually in the ocean with currents and waves and such, those people have been training and that's why they're Swimmers and not just regular trainers.

I have to agree with Toujours on this one, you are very young and most people that are young can not swim. But I dont see the excuse really for Pokemon Black and White, aren't the trainers a little bit older? If they are then I guess Pokemon doesn't want you to learn how to swim because it will defeat the purpose of battling a certain someone that holds the HM you need in order to go on with your journey. By that I mean that if you swim that means you can just pass a lot of things.

This pretty much sums it up since they are swimmer class of trainers.

HM's seem to be part of the fabric of the games at this point anyways. I know people say well why can't you get an axe and use it on trees, why can't you push the bolder yourself, why can't you smash the rock on your own, why can't you use an airplane instead of a pokemon. I think they will keep HM apart of the Main Series for the foreseeable future so I see nothing on unfair about it. It's always been that way and likely will be in the future.

It's not "knowing how to swim". I've been able to swim since before I could walk, and I wouldn't be able to swim in the open ocean. There's a lot to being able to do that, it takes training and dedication to be able to swim in open water like that for extended periods of time. Even a 14-16 year old would only be able to manage that if they had been training since they were like 6 or something, and then where's the time for Pokemon? :P

I'm 18 and can't swim very well at all, so that throws out the BW trainers thing. I'd rather not swim anyway, even if it is just a character. lol Riding a Pokemon is much cooler, plus it just makes the game run more smoothly imo. If our characters could all swim, I think it'd be kinda boring and just break the game somehow. Oh well.

I can't swim either and since trainers apparently don't change clothes, I wouldn't want to walk around completely soaked... (which brings up the whole issue of Dive, but...)

I'd rather just stick with riding on a Pokemon (though I'd really rather go the "35-foot private yacht" route.)

Well, I can swim to an extent.

Okay, seriously. in the Pokemon universe, the main protagonist may not have had enough training to swim by themselves, so they have to rely on another Pokemon to Surf on the waves.

Riding the waves on a Pokémon is better than swimming by far. It ties in with the game better, especially because if you were an experienced swimmer, you could swim at any time of the game and get to certain areas that should be available to you quite yet. With Surf, you can teach your Pokémon at a reasonable time for everything to work properly in planning.

yeah, surfing on a Lugia is awesome especially if something that big passes by a swimmer, I'd prefer to ride a Pokemon than swim...

I agree with the original poster.

You should be allowed to swim throughout the water routes. I'm not sure how but I'm 100% for the idea. Perhaps something kind of corny like the RSE desert go-goggles only for water use. Or if all else fails buy some swim shorts or suit for girls... Ofcourse you wouldn't see your trainer change into them

*player swirls around rapidly changing at the speed of light then jumps into the water infront of you* .

I honestly wouldn't worry about it being realistic.
