I've been seeing people talk about tags. What are they and are they bad?

Tags are Basically phrases that you can search with, If a Thread has Tags you see them underneath the current page of the topic you're on. For Example, in the "Tags" section of this page you'll see the word "None" That means it dosne't have any tags yet

Tags are Bad when it doesn't have anything to do with the topic of the thread

Ex: a tag that says "Food" In a computer topic.

    But mosts tags are good.

If you looking for a certain topic, you can use tags to help you find it basically.

    Hope i Helped

No, not bad at all. They're used to classify threads so you can find them easier using the search tool.

I never tag, it's certainly not nessecary!

I believe tagging is necessary. It helps the search engine on the site find relevant information. I can't even tell you how many times I've done a search and nothing relevant comes up at all. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, perhaps there really wasn't any information.

So, no, tags are not a bad thing. They can really help other members out! :)
