This has been finished for a while — I thought I'd delve into the real truth as to why the Human and Beast Digimon fought, the cause behind their fighting, when the Ancient Ten joined in and how it ended. Feedback on this is much appreciated.
Tainted Soul
On the last day of a Digital Spring, when a sweat-inducing heat bore down from the mid-day sun to cover Odaiba's Digital World in an unbearably high temperature, a Yasyamon ran with two Bitmon either side of him. A trio of Goatmon and more Bitmon soon followed. The Yasyamon and first Bitmon lunged at each other from across the small distance and began fighting.
"Ittouryoudan!" Yasyamon crossed his two bokutou and fired a shock wave, which the beast Digimon evaded easily. Bitmon retaliated with a pink beam shot from his eyes; this was blocked by the bokutou. Their traded blows continued until the Yasyamon managed to defeat the Bitmon. The beast Digimon's body disappeared, his body becoming a Digitama.
Needless tragedies filled the Ancient with pain, for unwanted deaths served no purpose, not when the true enemy was a fellow Digimon of angelic origin. He was a large crimson dragon on four legs coated in red armour with orange bird-like wings. On his head was a white, horned helmet and there were holes in his armour to release fire. "Here, the madness begins," he stated to one of his companions. "This is the result of his torture."
His friend was a tall wolf on two legs coated in greyish-silver armour with two swords. On his shoulders were additional pieces of protective covering. "Aye, so it is," the wolf responded with a mild chuckle and a quick roll of his eyes in a pitying gesture for the Digimon who were at war with one another. "Fate changes all of the time, at times drastically. But it is the outcome of the upcoming war with our angel I look forward to the most."
"What manner of place is this where a Child level thinks he can run amok and discriminate against other Digimon?" The dragon questioned, his tone stern. "Or does he think he's more powerful than us Ultimates?"
"You must remember, this world and many others like it have only been around for a short time," the other replied proudly as he gripped his claymores. "Yet we all know that his obsession with power is what lead to this corruption."
"We have stared and ruminated ponderingly for too long, haven't we? I would say we're due for reconfiguration soon," the winged dragon challenged. "We have done our fair share." He stood to his full height, his head snaking in and inclining to the right slightly.
"Wars always come, my friend," his companion answered. "But we of the Warrior Ten will forever endure." His companion was Ancient Garurumon. He was called the "Supreme Shining Beast" and Ancient Garurumon's abilities would later be passed onto the "Beast Digimon".
And the dragon? He was Ancient Greymon. It is said that his strength surpassed that of future Ultimates, and he was certainly an "Ultimate" being. Ancient Greymon's abilities would later be passed onto the "Dragon Digimon" of the Greymon-species.
It was the Ancient Ten who, only a couple of months prior, watched with keen interest as Lucemon took it upon himself to negate the damage from the first Beast-Human Digimon war. Since then, however, they had been studying with alarm at how, after the angel used his powers, he became corrupted and tormented his fellows, causing another Beast-Human war.
Ancient Greymon was recognized amongst the Warrior Ten as the thinker of the group and was often making his thoughts about the hierarchy of the Digital World known. As it was, the Holy Beasts were the Gods; by fellow Digimon, they were identified as Baihumon, Qinglongmon, Xuanwumon, Zhuqiaomon and Huanglongmon. Directly underneath them, serving Yggdrasil and protecting the peace of the Digital World, were the Holy Knights. There were apparently thirteen of them, but only twelve ever presented themselves; just as there were meant to be twelve members of the Olympus Twelve, who were on equal par power-level wise with the Holy Knights, but only six were well-known.
"Well then," a feminine-toned voice gurgled, as a bluish-teal Digimon rose from the depths of the lake near which the two other Ancients stood and observed a Kangalmon delete a second Yasyamon, before the Human Digimon avenged their companion's loss by allowing their leader, Dinohumon, to vaporize the Beast type. "We had better step in, hadn't we? I will not stand by and watch any more friends die for no reason." She was Ancient Mermaimon, complete with flowing white hair coming from the back of her royal blue helmet, scaly wing-like appendages on her shoulders and a gold trident.
Together, the Ancients stepped forward, ready to confront Lucemon. Even with the storm-darkened sky overhead from the outflow of corruption coming from Lucemon himself, this did not dissuade the Warrior Ten from advancing to complete their goal. Though one had to wonder whether this battle would be one of victory for the Ancients, or one of loss regardless of who won…?
…
The humans would later call it the War of Origins. Qinglongmon wasn't sure why; because the Digital Worlds had been around for a short time and this was the first great catastrophe? Who could tell how long it would be until the next horror roared forth from the shadows? It was a fitting name for the war, though. Lucemon was now striking out at the hostile Human and Beast Digimon and ravaging the immediate area.
"Adults losing to a Child level, bah!" Zhuqiaomon scoffed. He was a mighty bird that was fifty feet in height and sixty feet long from beak to tail. His entire body was covered by slim red feathers that looked like skin when seen from a distance; they were that fine. "They're pathetic!"
Qinglongmon's entire serpentine body was easily hundreds of feet long, and it was about seventy feet in width. As for the body itself, it was coloured a ghostly blue, and it seemed transparent. "Give them a chance, Zhuqiaomon. Besides, remember the Ancients are about to start fighting against Lucemon, too."
Baihumon's ears flickered as the air moved within the Hall of the Gods and he turned to see two Angemon kneel before the Holy Beasts. "Angemon brothers, what brings you before us?" Baihumon himself was a tiger that stood at fifteen feet tall and twenty feet long. His body was muscular and his fur was pearly white with blue stripes on his back, legs and tail.
The Angemon brothers were angels clothed in blue and white with six wings. In each of their right hands was a staff. A black visor with a cross on it hid their eyes. "Darcmon-san sent us,"
"To bring news of the Ancients."
"The battle against Lucemon,"
"Has begun in earnest."
Zhuqiaomon coughed pointedly and muttered: "Weird." He would always find the way the two Angemon spoke disturbing. Each merged his words flawlessly with the words of the other, speaking half sentences as if they were of one mind.
"The dying Ancients battle,"
"Lucemon's wrath with all their strength."
"However, he tears through them,"
"Without hesitation. They are,"
"Powerless in his wake."
"The Olympus Twelve? The Holy Knights? What about the Devas?" Xuanwumon asked, his voice sounding concerned. He was a gigantic turtle whose full height was seventy feet, and his length was fifty feet, with his width being thirty-five feet. His skin was pale yellow in colour, and white scales covered the bottom of his body.
"The Twelve have refused."
"The Knights are otherwise unavailable."
"The Devas are on their way."
"But it may be too late,"
"By the time they arrive."
"So we must have faith,"
"In the Ancients."
...
Lucemon did not slow. He cut a path of horror through the world, plunging it into darkness and fear. The remaining Human and Beast Digimon stood against him, but he carved a bloody passage through their ranks. Ancient Greymon and his companions, alongside the few surviving previously battling Digimon, stood strong against Lucemon and fought valiantly, but he was too powerful for some reason.
Lucemon had the appearance of a young boy with curled blonde hair, as well as two small wings on his head and six fused to his spinal cord. "Grand Cross!" He fired ten superheated orbs in a cruciform syzygy.
Ancient Garurumon and Ancient Mermaimon managed to dodge, but the orbs struck Ancient Greymon and the winged dragon grunted from the resulting explosion. "The corruption's making his power stronger than normal!" Ancient Garurumon realized.
"So what do we do now?" came the reedy voice of Ancient Troiamon. He was based off the Trojan Horse and had the greatest size of all the Ancients. Various mechanisms, including long and short-range cannons were set within his body, and he has displayed tricky attacks and movements in the war up until the present moment.
"What we do is continue to fight," Ancient Wisemon responded in his usual husky tone. He was essentially a mirror covered with a green robe, eerie yellow eyes and an all-knowing expression.
"How naïve of you to think you can do anything at all." Lucemon's voice was cold, more adult-like, and almost crooning at them.
Ancient Greymon recognized it at once and tensed. "He's preparing to evolve, everyone! We have to strike with everything we've got!"
"Tera Blaster!" An electrified voice spoke evenly, this was Ancient Beatmon. With the exception of his abdomen which was beige, his lower half was a dull red and the top half was blue. He also had a horn very similar to AtlurKabuterimon. Tera Blaster was a super-electrical attack with a thousand times the power of Giga Blaster.
Ancient Irismon had a plume of feathers going backwards from the top of her head, with them being mixed as different shades from the tips back to the top. Her multi-coloured wings were edged with gold and she held a short sword in her left hand. "Storm Gazer!" She thrust her sword into the air and lightning struck it immediately, causing a deafening boom as a super-gigantic storm formed swiftly.
"Freezing Blizzard!" This outcry came from Ancient Megatheriumon. Ancient Megatheriumon was a Data-attributed Digimon who resembled a giant goat. The differences after that, though, were massive. His body was covered in a thick mass of white hair, with three cannons on either side of his spinal cord, abnormally long horns and eight legs.
Super-massive shells from the huge cannons in Ancient Troiamon's mouth and chest burst forth, aiming for Lucemon, who was now engulfed by the light of evolution. "Surprise Cannon!"
"Laplace no Ma!" With his ultimate wisdom, Ancient Wisemon calculated the coordinates to the spirit world and aimed to imprison the opponent for eternity in a separate universe.
"Supernova!" With his body made from rock and supporting an active volcano on his back, Ancient Volcamon caused a huge explosion from his volcano with the hatred of earth. He had leather straps on his wrists and a grey helmet with two horns on top.
Ancient Sphinxmon was a midnight-coloured sphinx-like Digimon with bronze wings and claws. He reared up on his hind legs and crashed down, gathering dark energy in his mouth which was released as an orb towards Lucemon. "Dark Blast!"
"Crystal Billow!" Ancient Mermaimon created water crystal bullets, firing them like a machine gun.
"Gaia Tornado!" Ancient Greymon ensnared Lucemon within a maelstrom of Earth's atmospheric energies.
"Sharpness Claymore!" Ancient Garurumon threw his swords at the light which was still surrounding the corrupted angel, but they rebounded and he caught them again.
The light rapidly dissipated. No longer did the Digimon have any resemblance to the former Child level; Lucemon's new form was now a tall blonde man with black and white wings. His blue eyes, one marred by a scar, glinted. Smiling evilly, the new Digimon declared his name with a proud and silky voice. "Lucemon Falldown Mode." The Perfect's eyes were full of laughter.
One by one, he proceeded to crush them.
Then the unthinkable happened; with a scream that split the sky, the first of the Ancients died, Ancient Volcamon's earth-based body had been shattered by Lucemon's full-on corruption. A second fell soon after, the bronze-winged Ancient Sphinxmon broken by the unnaturally long claws which appeared to have lengthened from Lucemon's fingernails. Lucemon answered these screams with a deep roar of his own, one that shook the very foundations of reality. As the beast-like Perfect slaughtered his way through the Warrior Ten, a low murmur swept through the Devas who had just arrived, and concern etched its way onto their features.
"So quickly?" Chatsuramon wondered as another of the Ten was atomized by the monster. The Dog Deva's voice lacked the patronizing malevolence it usually did. "I've never seen Digimon slain so swiftly."
"They are dying," Pajramon answered, the burly Sheep Deva's arms crossed over her chest. "Ancient and dying. What else did you expect?"
"That may be," Mihiramon responded, the Tiger Deva's brow furrowed in worry. "But even with all their power, Lucemon's is greater still."
By then, only two of the Ancient Ten remained; Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon. It had happened so quickly, before any of the Digimon watching could even comprehend it. The Holy Beasts watched impassively as the last two warriors sagged and stumbled. They could barely stand, much less fight against this monster. But still, they fought to their feet, holding on against all probability against the infernal onslaught of Lucemon's power.
The Devas watched with baited breath; hoping that these actions, the actions of these dying Digimon and the sacrifices of their comrades, would be enough to galvanize the humans into worshipping the higher-ups. They hoped it would convince them to stand as one and face any rising tide of darkness. They watched, waiting for a miracle. But to their disappointment, the sight of the Ancient Ten dead and defeated did not inspire the humans, but struck them dumb with fear.
And then a miracle happened. Though Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon's bodies were blurring, they pushed forward with their final task. Ancient Garurumon gently picked up the Digi Core of his fallen Virus-attribute ally, Ancient Sphinxmon, and focused what power was left in it to create a Dark Gate. So that's the plan, is it? A wise move, Qinglongmon realized.
"Dark Gate, open!" The fading Ultimate yelled, his voice hoarse and cracking, from the emotions of losing his friends.
Lucemon let out a sly laugh as he purposely devolved, the noise thick with a dishonourable tone, as the gate opened to reveal the Dark Area. Weakening further still, Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon only just had enough strength to push Lucemon, to force him into the Dark Area. The Gate immediately shut afterwards.
"Look, everyone! They did it!" Baihumon shouted, having arrived in the Digital World through a Digital Gate. The few surviving Human and Beast Digimon could barely contain themselves and cheered wildly. It was true, though it had come at a cost. Both the Ancients' data had since disappeared, leaving their spirits behind.
"We bow before the spirits of the mighty Ancient Ten," Vajramon declared and glanced around to ensure everyone was bowing, before kneeling in respect himself.
"We must rest now..." Ancient Greymon's spirit replied, watching Ancient Garurumon's essence head to the Village of Beginnings, where Digimon could be reborn. He could feel his essence tugging at him, telling him it wanted to recover as well. "We will always watch over the Digital World. Goodbye for now..."
...
"The War of Origins has ended with the loss of the Ancients and Lucemon's sealing. We had better prepare for the Second Chosen Children, shouldn't we?" Qinglongmon asked a couple of months after the end of the war.
"Indeed, we should. The Digimon Minis' have already been sent to them. Upon their arrival in the Digital World, the devices will upgrade to D-Kinects," Xuanwumon answered.
"How did you input Sorcerymon's data into the Kimura boy's Mini, when he is meant to watch him?" Baihumon inquired.
"Easy," Qinglongmon chuckled lightly. "When he reaches the Adult level, Sorcerymon will leave the Digimon Mini and hang around the city. The Mini will have an error sign appear."
"Somebody please tell me," Zhuqiaomon finally spoke up, grumbling as usual, "how we failed to see this? It was bad enough that the Ancient Ten gave their lives to seal the corrupted Lucemon away, but failing to see this Digimon's plans? Madness!"
"Because this subordinate has the power to rip the worlds to pieces and we need desperate help." Baihumon sighed. "That is simply the way things are."
...
While the Holy Beasts were having their conversation and unknownst to them, a Chosen Child had already been called to the the Digital World. His partner was the Darcmon who had been the leader of the Human Digimon; both Child and partner alike had been corrupted by the wishes of the evil Digimon who were making their preparations to destabilize the balance of the Digital World.
This was the truth. The remaining time would pass and the team led by the Kimura boy was soon to arrive in the Digital World. They would be Chosen by the Holy Beasts and the Balance Code would struggle to keep itself afloat. But it would also mark the War of Freedom, the first rising of Megidramon and the initiation of the Future Hope project.
