Hey all, hope you well. New member here :)

I've never played pokemon before (any gen) and i've borrowed a gameboy pocket with pokemon blue to play from a friend (good side activity while watching the olympics).
He helped me at the start up to and including getting mew, the early glitch, and after that i went on by my self.
But i realised how OP mew is (and Psychic in general in gen 1 after reading a bit) and i found it not so fun to play with mew, i got to around mid game i think and are now starting over.

And i've always been a person who enjoys having a plan, and when i found out TMs are 1 time use (some atleast) i felt i needed a plan. Cause thats how i enjoy stuff, and not doing things on the fly.

My planned team so far is:

    Blastoise:
    Earthquake
    Surf
    Icebeam
    Crunch/Protect/rest (anything better?)

    Jolteon:
    Thunderbolt
    Thunderwave
    Pin Missile
    Double kick/Body Slam

And looking at final bosses id only need to ad a Psychic for Elite 4?

Should i skip Psychic all together to make it more fun and should i get a full roster or play with just 3-4 pokemons?

Any pokemons i should take a look at? Thinking getting Nidoking to main roster.

Do you set any rules for yourself to make the game more fun/challenging?
And what are you doing after beating the elite 4? :)

Cheers for any tips and suggestions :)

Crunch is out I'm afraid as it's a gen 2 onward attack

Replace Pin Missle with double team on Jolteon

I'd add Snorlax in there on your first time, clefable/wigglytuff can be really helpful too and can learn a tonne of moves

The main thing to make sure of is that you have all your necessary HM moves covered (Cut, Surf, Strength, and Flash). You can do this by having an "HM slave" (a pokemon that can learn 4 HM moves and usually doesn't take part in battle - mew is good for this), spreading the HM's out across your team, or having boxed pokemon that know HM moves and that you only take out when needed. Because you won't always need all of the HMs, the third option is good for certain ones (Flash specifically comes to mind, as I believe the only place you need it in R/B/Y is Rock Tunnel)

You've also got the optional HM move Fly, which is not necessary, strictly speaking, but extremely useful as it lets you fly to any pokemon centre you've previously visited. Dig is also a move to consider (it lets you escape from underground locations and some buildings without using an escape rope) and can be learned naturally by some pokemon, or taught using a TM. And Teleport is useful early in the game before you get Fly (lets you teleport to the most recently used pokemon centre)

Otherwise, it honestly doesn't make a whole lot of difference which pokemon you're using when playing the game if you're not planning on using the team competitively afterwards, or following restrictions to make the game harder. Pick pokemon that make you excited to play, and try to have your attacks cover a variety of types.

Challenges are definitely a fun way to go, there's a whole forum dedicated to them! My personal go-to is to use a random number generator to pick which pokemon I'm going to use, but there are a lot of very creative challenges out there with a whole range of difficulties.

In gen 1 there isn't a whole lot to do after beating the E4 other than try to complete your pokedex if you haven't already (which is actually possible in gen 1 without hacking or trading, unlike in later games, thanks to the same glitch that you can use to catch mew. If you go to Bulbapedia and search 'mew glitch' there's an in-depth but fairly straightforward explanation of how it works and how you can use it to get any pokemon in the game)

Thanks for the info :) I'll probably wont catch em' all, since im just borrowing the game. But who knows.

Think i have the Hms covered:

    Abra: Teleport (until fly)
    Blastoise: Surf
    Nidoking: Strength
Farfetch'd: Cut, Fly (wont level him probably)
And Flash seems not needed to keep around at all times, stored on some random pokemon.

Now i'll go play and not overthink things, as i always do :D
