Pokémon is a unique RPG in that instead of its story forcing a party of four characters with tragic and/or convoluted backstories on you with no room for deviation aside from maybe gaining another party of four late in the game with which you can rotate members around, it gives you access to hundreds of potential party members to choose from that can be employed and fired at your whim.

Given this, players like to come up with their own ways to exercise this freedom to have the most fun, and one of those ways is building a team with a theme behind it. It could be a mono-type team, or a team based on a favourite character, whatever!

What are some of the themes you've built teams around? :)

I'm currently toying with the idea of building something like 'Mewtwo's clones team' for the upcoming Virtual Console release of RBY, where I can only use Pokémon Mewtwo used when he tried to be a Pokémon Trainer himself in The First Movie. Don't know if I'll actually do it, though I sort of like the idea... It would make the entire point of that playthrough to meet my team's leader! :)

    My team formula is rather simple: Water-type, Electric-type, Flying-type, Grass-type, Fire-Type and a favorite.

Since the introduction of move categorization in Gen IV, I start to care about Physical and Special attackers, usually its three of each or four Physical attackers and two special attackers.

I tend to focus on more individual pokemon but I did recently do a Prankster ability team which is good fun to play. See my sig for the pokemon I have for it.

I've thought of doing a Baby run in GSC, with a team of nothing but Baby Pokémon, possibly slightly over-leveled to somewhat compensate for their pitiful stats, but I've never gotten around to it... Why in GSC? 'Cause that's the generation that introduced them! :)
