"Tentacool & Tentacruel" Episode Discussion

I think Dawn is a mix of May, Misty and Ash haha. She has personality traits from them all.

Indeed, that was quite clear in her debut episode. And how "what would happen if she was the star of the show?"

Anyhoo (back to topic), notice how whenever the Tentacruel conversed through Meowth, it used the Giovanni audio distortion. Weird.

Wow! I'm impressed with this episode! Meowth was just so noble in translating Tentacruel's speech for everyone. Okay, sure, he didn't have much of a choice, but still, if it weren't for his ability to talk, everyone would never had known why Tentacruel was ticked and would continue to treat it like a monster. See, this is why Meowth can never leave the cast! He's just way too important because he can foster understanding between humans and Pokemon, so they don't have to fight as much!

And there was someone else! Such guts, such courage, such sparks! Yes, Pikachu! The way he talked down that giant squid despite being so much smaller just goes to show how brave he was. And Tentacruel even hesitated to listen! Imagine that! Without Pikachu, Misty would have never gotten the courage to talk to Tentacruel, and that's how awesome the little rodent is! Now I know why he's the show's mascot! I want to cuddle that gutsy little rat! Never evolve or leave, you great sparky.

And Misty was great too.[/failed attempt to imitate S. Suikun of Serebii]

"OH NO IT'S TENTAZILLA! RUN TO THE HILLS!!"

You know, that reminds me, people thought this episode parodied the Godzilla movies. However, the part involving Meowth being used as a puppet by Tentacruel/Tentacool seemed more similar to what happened to the Dr. Ooken in "Independence Day" (You know, when the Alien was using Ooken's corpse as a puppet demanding it's release, as well as the President trying to negotiate to him.).

Well, ID was released in 1996, so I'd say that would be about right. Although, it would be later in the show that they'd be more obvious with foreign film allusions. And I did watch the movie, so I know what you mean. Poor Brent Spiner.

I think this is the first time that the Pokemon Big Bad of an episode conveyed their wishes through Meowth. Eventually, it would extend to the Pokemon du jour and whatever issues they had, but here is where it really began. Or, if it had beforehand, I can't find a clearer example than here.
