This clearly does not work with Internet Explorer older than 10.

This works in every other browser AND Internet Explorer versions 4-9.

This will only work on Internet Explorer versions 4-9.

I guess there's almost always a workaround for a lot of things, huh? Maybe I can put what I just learned to style my club's first post further.

These days we have a lot of things that simplifies things. :) Scripts for automating rendering of CSS3 elements in older browsers and making them recognize new semantic tags, for example... Well, let's just say that making older browsers having at least a good time is just waaaaaaaaaaay easier than like several years ago. ^.^

The most important thing is either graceful degradation or progressive enhancement if you can't work around issues. Don't give someone a broken experience just because they are stuck on an older browser.
