The anime repeating group dynamics now?

Did everyone notice the Best Wishes trio (Ash/Iris/Cilan) was like the original trio (Ash/Misty/Brock)

and now the XY group (Ash/Serena/Bonnie/Clemont) is similar to the Hoenn group (Ash/May/Max/Brock)

Why do you think they're repeating past group dynamics with such a similar set-up and characters?

I think it is because there isn't many group combinations they can do. I don't think they will ever do a group with all guys or Ash and 2 or 3 girls. I think as long as they change the personalities of each character it is fine, but I actually find this Kalos Group very unique because they are all around Ash's age or younger.

Are they really repeating group dynamics this time though? Sure, BW was meant to evoke OS. Sure, XY has an AG feel to it. But how similar are the actual interactions?

For BW, I felt there was more of an equal friendship between the trio than in OS. Misty and Brock were significantly more knowledgeable and competent than Ash while Cilan and Iris were more on Ash's level; Iris being young and talented, Cilan being fairly competent but still learning and overcoming challenges. The group setup is similar, but the relationships weren't very.

It's early to say about XY, but they are definitely going the way of Advanced and hopefully learning from it. The Clemont/Bonnie relationship seems to be the most comparable to AG (though Bonnie doesn't seem to constantly sass Clemmy as Max did May). Doesn't seem like Ash will fight with Bonnie as much as he did with Max. Seems like he and Clemmy will probably have a brotherly relationship rather than a mentor/ward relationship. There is no significantly older companion/group chef/mama along this time, which will change things up. And it's easiest to have a four-person group if two are somehow related, and the easiest way to justify travel with a sibling is if the sibling is underage. idk.

There are certainly similarities, but it's the differences that make it interesting and there are plenty of those.

The amount of people may be repetitive but the personality dynamic is definitely not. From what I've observed from the XY preview, there isn't a chef this season (unless Clemont invents some robot chef). Ash and Clem seem to be at the same level as far as battle experience goes whereas Cilan/Brock were much more considerate, cautious and reserved. Bonnie seems to be more happy-go-lucky than Max, and Serena actually reminds me a lot of May except that they have different goals (and Serena may have more attitude). The XY series also seems to be lacking a guardian role unless Alexa happens to be a frequently recurring character.

Tl;dr No, the group dynamics aren't repeating.

Oh Please , BW Trio's group dynamic is nowhere good as Original Trio .
I mean the group dynamic of Original trio is almost as good as K-on.
So , I don't think Pokemon repeating the same dynamic.
Even if they did , They failed .
I just hope XY Trio's group dynamic will be as good as K-on and writer won't ruin them by trying to mimic AG Trio's group dynamic.

Did anyone say it was as good? No. OP said they were similar. I said BW was meant to evoke OS. That is a fact stated by people working on the show. If you had paid attention, you would have realized I said that they are very different. I presented neither as better than the other. This conversation is not about BW. This conversation is about group dynamics as a whole, and if the series is repeating itself in that way. You really need to restrain your constant hatred and look at things in an unbiased way, because you rarely contribute to actual conversation due to your immense bias.

Just. Stop.

With the actual discussion, today's episode [XY003; spoilers ahoy] further cemented my stance on this. Clemont is a far cry from either May or Brock; he's shaping up to be as eccentric about science as Cilan is about his fascinations. Ash seems to get along with him well and support him even when things don't go right, which is cute as hell. Bonnie is much more energetic and involved than Max, which lets the big brother show in both Ash and Clemont. They're already a family, with all the chaos that will ensue from that. There's a lot more energy here than I saw in the beginning of AG. So I still don't think they're repeating dynamics.
