The battle rages on.
The Skarmory roared as Cyndaquil jumped onto the field. Minerva smiled, knowing this would be a great battle. There was something about this boy, something about the way he analyzed situations. It was...something she could never do. She licked her lips as she stared at the Cyndaquil, Volcan, that had just entered the field. Strangely, it did not enter with a Pokeball, but came manually. A Fire-type won't do. It would take down Skarmory far to quickly. Then again, her gym was one of the few where Pokemon could switch. A few seconds of thinking, the Ref robot commencing the battle, and Minerva had a plan.
"Skarmory, not yet. Return my child, for your wings shall not go unspoiled. Now, it is your turn, arrive with your sweet metallic armor, Aron. Battle Station at once!"
The board above the Ref blinked a picture of Skarmory and Cyndaquil on. Afterwards, it proceeded to blink Skarmory off in exchange for a smaller rock-like creature. The Aron shooed away any trace of the bright red aura from which it came and stepped up. It stared at Volcan with such a glare, that even Mark could feel its power. Mark shook it off and realized Minerva's plan. Not only was Aron a steel-type, but it was also a rock-type. After seeing Skarmory, Mark realized other Pokemon had two types. This would be a challenge.
"Volcan, the spotlight's on you. Use an Ember attack...please."
With its eyes squeezed shut, the small Pokemon let out tiny bullets of fire power, hitting Aron for a clear blow. But Aron stood proud as it used its Iron Defense tactic. Then, it turned around and kicked back Mud which Slapped Volcan straight in the face. He flipped over and headed for a Take Down. Volcan barely had time to stand when it was pounced on by Aron, a seemingly glancing blow. Volcan fired out another Ember, but Aron held back, this time taking the attack. Aron's eyes turned a deep blue, and then, he let loose a Pulse of Water power.
"That's right Aron! Hit 'em with a Water Pulse! That's Aron's special move, you see."
"Well...Volcan, try to dodge with a Quick Attack!"
Volcan succeeded in dodging the otherwise one-hit KO move. Aron, looked around, taking its time to turn and follow Volcan. Then, Mark had an idea. Maybe it would work. Aron's weakness lies in its speed and vision. Volcan went in for an Ember, and Aron prepared its Iron Defense. Then, with as much energy as he could manage, he sent out an Ember, repelling Aron backwards. Aron stammered back and headed towards Volcan with a Take Down just as Mark hatched his plan.
"Now, Volcan, send out a Smokescreen!"
"What? Aron, look sharp, this could be the tough round."
Aron looked around hopelessly for any sign of the small yellow Pokemon. Volcan concealed itself well. Then, it shined its two bright red eyes straight at Aron, a Leer attack. Aron did nothing but watch as its Defense lowered, transfixed by the small red glow. The, Volcan sent out an Ember, Aron had no time to act. He was sent back, but gripped his legs to the field and held on. Both Pokemon were tired, but Mark and Volcan had a bigger reason to win.
"Aron, Water Pulse, go!"
This was Mark's real plan. As Aron let out a small blue orb, Mark attacked, "Go Volcan. Use Ember max power on that Water Pulse!"
As Volcan did so, the small orb grew closer and closer. The small flames bounced off until. They didn't. They began pushing, and then glowing. The small spaced out fire bits compiled into one large beam of magma.
Cyndaquil learned Flamethrower.
Steam began spreading from the small area to every corner. It began flowing into Aron's armor, loosening it up. Mark finished his master plan. With Aron's defense being at its lowest point, he looked at Volcan who nodded. Volcan fired one final Flamethrower. Minerva gritted her teeth together at her final order.
"Aron, use Iron Defense and Take Down, Go!"
He proceeded to do so. The two attacks collided, Aron slowly pushing his way to Volcan. Volcan fired off a stream of fire, hitting Aron for harsh damage. But Aron refused to give up. He continued and found himself halfway near Volcan. Mark was taken aback at the small Pokemon's stamina and then, the impossible happened. The small armored Pokemon finished its assault, causing a ball of smog to come across the arena. Neither trainer nor Pokemon could see. The room was quiet. The only one who could see what was going on, was Clair. Her jaw dropped.
The Conclusion to Badge Battle Number One...maybe.
Regis phoned the bridge patrol for a status update. He looked at the flustered man and growled to himself.
"Carlson, as it seems you have failed to do any good here, I suggest you take a plane towards Mt. Saint Helens. We have located two CT's. It appears they are travelling together." Regis smirked at how devious he was.
"Bring them to the base in Sacramento. I will see you there. AAPM rule. Regis out."
