The Children Are Hunted

Again, Adan shook it off. He couldn't see but that didn't matter. He closed his eyes, planted himself firmly on the cracked ground, and waited. "Only the arrogant say something like that," he told the Vulpix flatly, concentrating on the earth around him. "You should be doing better than this: it doesn't even hurt." His armor was slightly scorched but it wasn't burned yet. "Try attacking me this time."

Vulpix didn't rise to the bait. He was smarter than that. Adan was bluffing. Vulpix knew he had taken damage. But Steel types were renowned for how tough they were.
"Heh, I'm afriad we'll have to agree to disagree on that point. But why should I do all the attacking? Come on, you big Slowpoke! Surely you can hit me with something meaningful!" Vulpix taunted. He blasted another Flamethrower directly at Adan. His firey atitude was only in his voice. His mind was calm and cool, each move a practiced measure, like a game of chess. Adan may think it was a stalemate, but Vulpix knew better. Each attack he made that Adan shrugged off was building up. Vulpix would get through his defenses and be the winner. It was only a matter of time. Even as Vulpix fired, he was wary about what was around him. He would never get sucked into the battle. All to often, he had been fighting one foe when something hit him from an angle he hadn't counted on. But he was ready for anything.

This time Adan sidestepped, hearing it come his way. he knew taunts and he was, as Zanna put it, too thick-headed for them to actually register in his mind.He thinks I'm just a Steel-type... I feel guilty for leaving him at such a disadvantage. "I'm a defensive type. I'll attack when I choose to attack. And I believe the game is up. I am also a Rock-type, so as I said before, your attacks aren't hurting me. Surely you have an attack that can counter that easily."

(Fire does do normal damage but not that much considering. Any time I used Aron, he and his evolutions just ignored almost everything they got hit with.)

(OOC: Same here! But in my experience, with a large enough level lead, you can get through with any attack. Now here's the question. Vulpix is in par with Arca, or at least that's how you made it seem. Is that a large enough level lead to make up for the defenses Adan has?)

Vulpix ignored the Aron. Of course he knew he was a rock type as well. What idiot wouldn't know that. Esper sent him an image of Mia, which caused him to laugh aloud.
"Of course I have something to counter rock types with. But you have the counter to that, so I don't think it's in my best interest to use it," Vulpix said. He still had command of this battle. He ran at Adan again, but instead of using Flamethrower, he leapt into the air and used Flamewheel and bounced himself off of Adan's back. Now that he was in the air behind him, Vulpix blasted Adan with a tremendous Flamethrower aimed at the base of his neck.

(Since Arca's in mid-30s, I'd assume it.)

Adan didn't even turn but backflipped into a Dragon Rush through the Flamethrower. He hadn't mastered that ability yet but it was fun to use. He used it to get behind Vulpix and slammed downward with an Iron Tail. This was both fun and not. Vulpix was an interesting opponent, but there was nothing at stake, not even skill growth. It made him slightly sad. Oh well.

Vulpix didn't twist in midair. He wasn't a feline, his bones would not let him move like that. Instead, he used flamewheel again. He still took the damage, but it wasn't like he was in any danger of fainting. Adan was rewarded for his efforts with a burnt tail, and Vulpix was shot downward. Instead of landing on the ground, he dove into it. This was the prefect opportunity to use Dig and get some real damage on his opponent. Adan was in the air, and couldn't use Eathquake. Just before Adan landed, Vulpix shot up out of the ground, unleashing Dig at the Aron. He landed lightly on his feet and turned around.
"Please don't make it so easy. I know you can do better, mister defensive type," Vulpix said levelly.

Vulpix got hit with the Earthquake as soon as he landed.
"Ouch! That kind of hurt! I take back what I just said, you're doing really well! Hah! This may be fun yet!" Vulpix said eagerly. He looked at Adan, and sent a Flamthrower at him.

"If you two keep messing up the ground, how are we going to get the RV out of here? It already has a flat tire from that last Earthquke!" Esper said. Marcus looked at the RV. True enough, one of the tires was flat. But Marcus knew how to change a tire. That would not be a problem. But if the two of them kept digging and making quakes, the RV could sink into the ground! Vulpix shrugged and blasted another of his white hot Flamethrowers at Adan. He wasn't planning on using Dig again anytime soon anyway. After that last Earthquake, the ground probably couldn't take much more punishment. He did not want to get caved in on!

Ash grinned. "Is fine, don't worry." Adan didn't respond to Vulpix, but silently accepted that it was time to take things up a notch. This was his terrain after all. He leapt into a Dragon Rush, jumping from upturned earth. The fang around his neck was glowing and he began to speed up. Arca smiled. She had a feeling he wouldnt evolve.

Vulpix was expecting something like this. He leapt at Adan, not using any attack. He got hit full force with the Dragon Rush, but didn't care. His teeth closed around that little fang that was glowing. He landed hard on the ground, and stood back up, the object hanging from his teeth. He looked at Adan.
"Lose something?" Vulpix asked. He tossed it aside, and Esper caught it and floated it over to Alyss.
"Vulpix is such a cheater. I don't think you want to lose this," Esper said. Vulpix glared at him, and sent a Flamethrower at Adan. He was going to have to learn sometime. If you were going to rely on an item, then you had better be sure that it won't get lost or stolen by a crafty opponent.

Alyss clutched it gently between her fingers as Adan dodged. Speed helped with dodging but he had learned minimal movement was better. That was a Dragon Fang, so it had been working with the Dragon Rush. Alyss had something else for him but he had refused it for a while, training himself to be fast. he would get it from her some other time. Adan opened his eyes and sat on his hind legs. His stomach was rumbling. He wanted food.

Vulpix cocked his head, listening intently.
"What? You hungry or something? You want to stop and get something to eat?" Vulpix asked. Either way was fine with him. He felt he was winning. He thought he had caused more damage to the Aron than the Aron had to him. Only the last Earthquake had really done anything painful, and that last Dragon Rush had a little power behind it. But even so, Vulpix was barely under two thirds of his power. It was almost like fighting Esper. Then he wondered how well Esper would do against Adan.

Adan shrugged. "I want metal." Alyss giggled innocently. "It was fun," the little Aron said simply, walking up to Alyss and leaping into her arms. Ash grinned and handed the girl some metal to feed him. Then Adan turned to glance at Vulpix. "I win. You used four moves: I used three." He munched on metal. "Yum." Arca chuckled.

"He's got a point there buddy," Arca commented goodnaturedly, padding over to Vulpix. Zaria managed a soft laugh.

Once he'd made sure it wouldn't fall out of the boy's bag easily, Leo turned his attention to the other humans. Garet was still waiting for a response from the fourth human, and the other boy was...doing something.

The Lucario frowned as he compared the boys' Auras. They both had the same kind of extra "glow", as he'd describe it, though Mark's was brighter in comparison. Leo would have to report this.

Letting his Aura-stick disappear, the Lucario formed a Metal Claw and began to cut away the piece of net that this boy had already cut through. He'd use it to tie up the two humans he and Garet were after. As for the third one, Leo wasn't sure.

"Hah! As if! It's not about how many moves you use, it's about how much damage you do! That being the case, I win! And it was fun indeed!" Vulpix said. He sat down as Arca walked out to him. The cold wasn't bothering him so much anymore. He chuckled as Adan ate the metal. He personally couldn't eat it, he was a carnivore by nature. But, hey, whatever works!

Adan shrugged again, still eating. Arca grinned. "I swear, he is so weird." She sounded teasing. Alyss laughed again, sitting down next to Vulpix now. Her wings stretched behind her. She wanted to fly but Venice would be a bad place for it. She sighed lightly, remembering just why she had napped in the first place.

"Why are people like that?" she mumbled. "Why are they always looking at things they shouldn't? It's not being curious, it's cruel!" She pulled a sharp feather from her wings and twirled it, ignoring the small scratch it left on her as she moved it across her fingertips.

"I have no idea," Vulpix said. He almost asked her why she was asking him, but decided she had directed it at the world in general. He blew a little bit of extra fire into the dirt. Esper gave him a reproachful look. Marcus sat down in the shade of the RV. Robby was sitting next to him, and they were talking quietly to each other, often times with Robby stopping to laugh.

Mia was in a jam. She needed to go warn the others, but there was no way she could leave these RDM people for an instant. She also had the feeling she was being watched. A feeling she hated. She continued searching the plane, but it held no answers she was aware of. Someone more experienced than her might be able to get useful information out of here, but not her. She remembered Esper had read her thoughts earlier. She wondered if he could do that from across the city. She tried to think of directions to where she was, and what she was doing. She hoped Esper was looking for her, but after what they had done and said, she doubted very much that those jerks cared to help her.

Alyss sighed. She didn't know what to do anymore. Zanna frowned and shrugged. "People are weird Alyss." Disgusting as it is, you gotta accept it someday." The girl nodded and looked at Zaria, who was floating near Esper, showing light images of her memories, her happy ones. She didn't want to bother him with any more sad ones just yet.Arca created an ice block then used her sharp tail to chisel at it. It was fun practice.

Vulpix nodded in agreement with Zanna.
"I agree. Humans are very odd. But don't worry. You've found yourself some of the better ones. Even if that one over there is a bit thoughtless sometimes!" Vulpix said, pointing one paw at the still sleeping Thomas. Esper was enjoying seeing Zaria's memories. He didn't send her any of his own back, because she had them all already, but he was letting his joy be shown. He had no idea Mia was trying to contact him.

Alyss managed a shy smile. "H-He can be but he's getting a bit better," she mumbled. "But it's not right. I shouldn't be here. He's using me to make Thomas falter, whatever that means." Zaria smiled sadly, trying to avoid the unhappiness. Then she sighed, turning a dark one over in her head. The Pokemon had given her his memories. Wasn't it fair for her to do the same? She sighed, analyzing each memory she had, nervous. She could feel a prickle running down her neck. Something was wrong but she wasn't sure what it was.
