The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion!!!!

Well it's the strongest sword in the generic game, but you can enchant more powerful ones (I myself have a dadreic longsword with 35+ frost damage enchantment)
...
I've just checked, and my most powerful weapon is a perfect amber warhammer (the strongest base damage in the game- Base 35 damage with 100 Blunt and 100 Strength) with a level 41 frost enchantment, so does 76 damage per hit. That thing pwns. However I've recently become a stealth charactor and as such carry a variety of daggers and rely on a destruction spell that does 250 damage :P

Sick. Are amber weapons part of the Shivering Isle expansion?

But don't you find it boring facing nothing but stunted scamps ect? Minimaxing is just plain annoying, and your attributes just stay rock-bottom in comparrison.
Not annoying at all; I have FCOM installed so I get a MUCH better variety of wild-life and enemies to fight. Plus once I max out everything at level 100, I start leveling up my majors and boosting my physical level; by that stage, I'm unstoppable.

Yeah, shivering isles gives amber and madness arms- AMber armor is light and madness is heavy, and both are better than glass and dadreic respectively.

by that stage, I'm unstoppable.

That was my point, don't you find it slightly annoying that you can obliterate anything in sight with a single hit?

Meh, each to their own I suppose =]

Do you ever think bethesda is going to go online in some of the later installments of the series? I think it would be kind of cool, but it would probably be a huge project

Here's a snippet from an interview with bethesda:

Urizin (interveiwer): I've been talking with several people, friends and forum members, and they're interested in one day seeing an MMORPG based Elder Scrolls game. Will it someday be possible to see such a game based in Tamriel?

Pete Hines (Bethesda): Yeah it's something we get asked about a lot. It's a different kind of game to take what it is we do from a single player standpoint and trying to apply that to a massively multiplayer world where there are hundreds of thousands of people playing in the game at the same time. It definitely changes the scale and scope of things. It's not something we have immediate plans for. We've talked about and thought about it before but for us it's a different kind of game with different technical demands, different design demands, and right now we still feel like we have a lot of things we can do from a single player standpoint. So we're going to keep doing that and see what happens on the massively multiplayer side.

This was written before the release of oblivion, so they could have changed. But if they hadn't started the MMO by 2007 then we most certainly wont be seeing anything for a few years yet.

Yeah that makes sense. I guess I won't get my hopes up for a while...But it sounds like The Elder Scrolls V is going to be pretty awesome.

yess! Oblivion is an epic game :-D

yeah online, I bought the horse armor pack and the deeds to all the expansion houses, like dunbarrow cove and frostcrag spire!

There is even that sword which changes depending on whether it's day or night.

The dusk/dawnfang was in shivering isles, not the house expanisons. It's a sucky blade too ;) I never use my horse so I got spell tomes instead, all hail fast travel!

=o I think i'm going to get the expansions soon...I've totally run out of stuff to do. Beat the main quest, I'm head of all the factions, I've raided so many ruins...definitely time for something new.

Bear in mind the shivering isles and KOTN are the only two with decent extended quests, the various residences you can download only have small attainment missions. SI is a game in itself, a good long main quest and many side quests (Some quite comical too).

Sheogorath is quite comical with his, "Time to celebrate! Cheese for everyone! Oh wait, scratch that, no cheese! But that's a celebration if you don't like cheese!" I laughed at that!

0.0 is that from a quest or something?

Yeah. I know. Even if you were to beat every single mission and quest there is still a bunch to do like kill random enemy's, steal horses and more. This is definately one of the longest games I have ever played. Mass Effect is pretty long to.

I got Oblivion a few weeks ago and I'm really finding it hard to get into. I guess I'm more of a JRPG fan than WRPG, but...I prefer having a more plot and character-driven storyline, plus the first-person POV is kinda disorienting for an RPG. The overworld is really huge though, and I see the potential for a lot of exploration and a lot of time sunk into the game, so hopefully once I put some more time into it, I'll start really enjoying it.

I'd say you should join a couple of the guilds or find a skill you really like. Once you get started on something specific, options will really start to open up. There are literally endless possibilities!
