*NOTE: You don't need much, if any, Elder Scrolls Experience to join. This RP is setup so it is relatively easy to understand. Even if you've only played Skyrim, that's fine too.*
Introduction - The College of Winterhold
The College of Winterhold. Located in northern Skyrim, in the city of Winterhold, the College is a place for all to come and learn and master magic. Whether it be for simple research purposes, or perhaps the inspiration of becoming a Mage, as long as you have the will to learn, you shall be granted permission to study. However, be warned: Joining this prestigious college is not as easy as it sounds. A combination of both intelligence and willpower are needed to obtain the aptitude of magic, and some basic level of magic knowledge/skills is required to pass the preliminary entrance test. Skills in utilizing Magicka must be shown in at least one of these categories:
- Illusion: Illusion involves manipulating the mind and senses of the enemy. This skill makes it easier to cast spells like fear, charm, and invisibility.
- Alteration: Alteration is used to change the fundamentals of physics and biology. For example, opening locks without a key, hardening the caster's skin to be similar to that of armor, etc. Alteration is different to Illusion in that it alters the rules of nature, creating a reality that is recognized by everyone, rather than in the mind of the caster and the target.
- Destruction: Destruction Magic is the mastery of the spell effects that "harm living and unliving things, and include elemental damage, draining, damaging, vulnerability, and disintegration magical effects".
- Conjuration: Conjuration is being able to call forth creatures and create weapons using magicka. This type of magic connects the caster's mind with that of the summoned thing. A sub-specialization of Conjuration is Necromancy. This sub-specialization focuses on the reanimation of corpses of dead humans and animals. Considered unethical, Necromancy is forbidden and illegal.
- Restoration: This type of magic is used for healing injuries, curing illnesses, poisons, and diseases, the fortification of attributes, shielding and preventing damage, and also includes some spells that manipulate the undead in various ways, most commonly causing them to flee.
Of course the College does not expect you to be a Master in one of these types of Magic right away. All students are given the choice of choosing one particular form of Magic to focus on if they wish. With this in mind, students are also allowed to attend any lecture the College holds, whether it be relevant to their studies or if it is just to satisfy curiosity. However, all students are signed up for at least one class, as per College requirement. Other forms of Magic such as Enchantment are not necessary to the curriculum, however, if students wish, they can attend various workshops throughout the week for practice in the enchantment of objects.
School Information & Regulations
Before you become a member of this renowned school, it is crucial that you know a little bit about this place as a little bit of homework. First off, if you are not a local of Winterhold, the College does have residency available for our 'out of town' students, as well as housing available within the city if you wish. It is imperative that this does not give you permission to disobey the rules of the College if you are living in the city: You do something bad, it makes us look bad. This includes things such as violence, murder, stealing, mischief, academic dishonesty, or anything else that would be deemed as 'bad', or otherwise breaking the law. It should also be noted that while you are in the school, you should be wearing the mage robes given to you by the College. Now, on to the school itself, and as you can see, there are 7 main sections of the school:

- Number 1 is the bridge that connects town to the college. If you want to leave the campus, you are going to have to take this route. It goes over a massive crevice, so be careful not to slip.
- Number 2 is the Central Courtyard. Here is a popular spot for students to mingle outside of classes, eat, etc. It's just a good overall hanging spot, and the statute of the first ever College Arch-Mage known as Shalidor resides in the centre.
- Number 3 is The Hall of Attainment, which is the living quarters for Apprentice Mages. This is where your characters will be staying. Depending on the circumstances, it can occur that you will share a room with a fellow student.
- Number 4 is The Hall of Countenance, which serves as the living quarters for the more advanced Mages. Don't worry about this place for now.
- Number 5, The Hall of Elements. Here is where your classes will be held, and it is also a good place for students to practice their magic. It essentially a circular shape with a huge ceiling overhead, so there's plenty of room to practice and get down and dirty. There are no seats here for sitting down. All classes are hands on. If you need to take notes, do them standing up. Food is also served here in the mornings, as well as when there are no scheduled classes.
- Number 6 is upstairs, and leads to the Arch-Mage's quarters, known as Savos Aren. This man is essentially the dean of the school. Don't interrupt him unless it's absolutely necessary.
- And lastly, is Number 7. Upstairs, is located the school's massive library, perfect for students wishing to study either in groups or alone. The librarian is an Orc named Urag go-Shub. Although usually willing to help students, he is rather grumpy most of the time.
The Races & Where You Come In
Alright, let's get to the Races of the Elder Scrolls Series. If it isn't obvious by now, you take on the role of an Apprentice Mage at this school. It doesn't matter your Race, or history, all that matters is that you are here, have an aptitude for Magic, and are willing to learn. The way the RP is going to work, is that everyone is going to be in the same class, which will teach a variety of magic. Along with classes, professors may ask students to go on field trips for research, errands, etc. Keep in mind, there is not class every day. A lot of time would be devoted to researching on your own time (or you can just do nothing, if that's what your character prefers). The overall plot will become more and more clear as the RP progresses. With that out of the way, let's get down to the different Races (Click the names for links. Click Here for a Map of Tamriel.):
- Nord: A race of men and women that originate from the northern Province of Skyrim. Light-skinned and fair-haired, and they have a natural resistance to frost, and are usually skilled in traditional forms of warfare. They put an emphasis on honour and glory. Studying Magic is looked down upon in Nord culture, hence why there are not that many Nord students. If you can't swing an axe or bust it with a hammer, they want no part in it.
- Imperial: A race of humans that hail from the Cosmopolitan Province of Cyrodiil, and the centre of the continent. Although swarthy, their skin tone is not as dark skinned as Redguards. Members of this race are known for being wealthy and well-educated. The Imperials have ruled Tamriel for 2000 years. Strong, capable warriors, Imperials have an appreciation for the arts, magic, commerce, and spirituality.
- Redguard: A race of humans that originate from the Province of Hammerfell. Hardy, they have a natural resistance to many poisons. They are mainly dark-skinned, and are also known to be fierce warriors and versatile, and often mainly act in small soldier troops or scouting missions. Other than Destruction spells, their culture mainly looks down upon magic, considering it to be for the wicked or weak minded.
- Breton: A race of humans, although they share some Elven ancestry. They come from the province of High Rock. They make excellent mages with high magical resistance as well, and are known to be intelligent. Because of their Elven ancestry, it can be seen that some of them have elven characteristics such as higher cheekbones or slight pointed ears. However, they still look like humans, so they are considered to be of human race.
- Orismer: Also known as Orcs, many of these people come from the City of Orsinium, located in High Rock. Generally ranging from green to light brown in skin color, they also can protrude tusks. They are also populated in the rural areas of Tamriel, such as mountainsides, in their own villages known as strongholds or camps. They are considered to be barbaric by most people, however they have a strong warrior culture, although some have been known to use magic (for example, Urag, the librarian). A lesser known fact about them, is that they are indeed a type of Mer, aka Elf. They have a strong sense of honor, and will not harm someone who is unarmed, or visibly weaker.
- High Elves: Also known as Altmer, they are a race of elves that come from the Summerset Isles. They show incredibly high skill of magic (one of the best of all the races). Their skin tone is generally a pale golden in color. They are usually slender in size, with almond shaped eyes and pointed ears. They also take pride in their appearance, and are often strict with marriage and reproduction as to not mix with other races.
- Wood Elves: Also known as Bosmer, this race of elves come from the Province of Valenwood. They rejected the formalities of the civilized world, and live a lavishing life in the wilderness, among trees and nature. Similar in appearance to High Elves, however darker in skin colour.
- Dark Elves: Also known as Dunmer, these elves originate from Morrowind. Known to be intelligent, stealthy and quick, they are also known to be a bit distrustful and distasteful towards other Races. They are darker in color than the other elves, and also have red eyes, that can glow or glisten in the dark.
- Khajiit: A beast race, this race is feline-like. Their home province is Elsweyr. They are known for their natural agility and stealth, and they also have a nifty ability of seeing well in the dark. They are known to be travellers, selling random stuff, however there is a racial prejudice against them. Often known as thieves, many people do not trust Khajiit. Many of them also speak in third person. Many of them also know how to make Skooma, a crystal-like drug (narcotic), that is often smoked through a pipe.
- Argonian: A beast race from the Province of Black Marsh, these people are reptilian in appearance. Like Khajiit, they are not related to Men or Mer (Elf). They are intelligent, and are experts at swimming. They also have immunity to some diseases. They are also known to be handy with lock picking and stealing, and are usually known to be good warriors, experts using guerrilla tactics.
The Rules & Other Stuff
- All PC RP Forum Rules Apply
- No God-modding/bunnying, etc. This includes taking hits like a champ, and killing enemies.
- My word is law. If I say something is off limits, then don't argue.
- Do not kill other players, and do not attack other students. A little quarrel or scrap is fine, but do not go around attacking random people.
- This RP takes place a little after the events of Skyrim. If possible, try not to reference too much from the games, in terms of canon events. This is just to keep things not too confusing for players who may not have played Elder Scrolls before, plus there is quite a bit of open ended events in the game.
- Your character is not allowed to know Shouts. If you don't know what these are, don't worry about it.
- This RP is rated M. For Violence, some swearing, romance, etc. You know the deal. As for swearing, try to keep it a minimum.
- Although not really a sandbox, the first little while is going to be sandbox. It is up to you to decide if you want your player interacting with others. However, your character will eventually be forced to work with the others, just so you are aware.
- Don't leave the RP randomly. Tell me if you plan on leaving, so I can figure something out.
- I'm not accepting reserves. I'm probably only going to be accepting a small number of people, around 5-6. I somehow doubt this RP is going to be so popular that we'll have a lot of people sign-up, so don't worry about not making a sign up in time.
- Most of all, please give me suggestions to make the RP better. It really does help, and I can take crit.
The College Application Form
Name: (First and Last. Middle name if they have one. If you need help with a name, Click Here. Pick your race from the choices at the bottom and click generate.)
Age: (There is no real age limit, however make sure your characters are not too young, as it is unlikely they would be able to use magic to the degree needed to be admitted into the school.)
Sex: (Male or Female)
Race: (Pick from one of the mentioned Races).
Appearance: (Gimme a description of your character. You know, height, weight, hair color/length, etc. As for clothing, your character will be wearing the standard robes given by the school as a uniform. Honestly, I prefer text over pictures, as it will give other players a chance to visualize your character. It doesn't even have to be that long, as long as you provide enough to let the others visualize. You are also allowed to carry a simple weapon, such as a steel sword or bow and arrow, etc. Click Here for a picture of the School Uniform/Robes)
Personality: (Okay, so here's a kicker. Instead of writing out a personality, all I want you to do is list 4-5 main points of your characters personality (or more if you want). This is to keep things simple so only the creator knows their true personality, plus it's more than likely your character may undergo changes. If you want to know about the characters a bit more, you must interact with them in the RP. )

Miscellaneous Points: (This is where you can put 4 or more points about anything to do with your character. Not personality, but things like events that have happened to them in life or anything interesting about them. Maybe their job, a little bit of history, aspirations/goals, etc.)

Current Magic: (Only give your character a few simple spells for now, maybe 2. It doesn't have to two spells from the same category. Click here for the full list of spells in Skyrim. If you are unsure if a spell is considered OP, just ask.)
