5th Gen The European Pokedex Entries.... O_O

So, the European Pokedex entries have come along and I found a strange one, which I hope is just a strange translation error?

Darumaka's droppings are hot, So people used to put them in their clothes to keep themselves warm

erm...right...

It also is annoying how the Pokedex entries build the Pokemon up to be "so intimating that everyone is left fearful when they are around" and then in the anime no-one bats an eyelid.

Yeah, they have seemed to not edit the Pokedex entries unlike D/P, which means that they may be a bit funny, like Darumaka's entry.

Haha that's just weird, i never really pay attention to the entries anyway, and in the anime they always get something wrong, usually it's something about the pokemon

I don't think that's the only strange PokeDex entry, either.

Though I don't really think of its droppings as droppings, and instead mini... versions of Darumaka. You know how it's based on those dolls? It's how I kinda think of it, rather than anything bad. XD

Haha that is a funny entry ^.^ Although not too strange when you think about it. People used to keep their feet warm in cow poo in winter in some areas, and play baseball with the poo too XD So I guess they do similar stuff with Darumaka's droppings.

The Unova people probably use it for other stuff too, not just sticking it in your clothes. Maybe lighting a BBQ or a fire using the droppings as coal?

This made me chuckle, I guess its one of the weirder pokedex entries (unless it is a translation error). I can imagine it now, houseworkers shovelling hot fire monkey muck into wooly jumpers - lovely.

:cer_laugh: I think that's the funniest Pokemon trivia I've heard all week. It's nice that the translators are sticking closer to the original text (a tendency that should have been present in DP)... I still wish Nob Ogasawara was available to translate BW text, though... :(

I'm a bit ambivalent with this. I like how they kept close to the original entry but, I just wished they'd tweak stuff like this.

Agreed. Some things change depending on cultures - I don't think most people in Europe and America actively use animal droppings to warm themselves. It's too strange to just leave the way it is, imo.

I'm almost 100% certain they kept that due to early settlers surviving on Buffalo Chip fires.

Seriously though I really like the pokedex entries and that they're not afraid to be a bit weird. :)

I prefer that the entries are staying true to their original Japanese counterparts, no matter how strange they may seem to some people.

First of all, this act isn't very strange, in the olden days, stuff like this happened all the time.

Besides, you people are taking this way out of proportion and relating this to the current day.
The entry clearly says "USED TO" as in a past tense, obviously People won't do this nowadays because of the technology and other forms of heat processing we have.

But in days of old, with no central heating, electricity and houses, hunters and other groups would have done something similar to this to keep warm.

It's not unheard of.

Well, the "used to" helps lessen the disgust factor, but not by much. But what, they weren't able to find any Tepig, Torchic, Simisear, Heatmor, Darmanitan, Ulgamoth, or Chandelure to provide fire for warmth? -_-
