The Extreme Speed Open Tournament - Rules and Results

Pfft, beats my guess. I was going to say like two days =/

Alright everyone, it's time to announce Round Two! *cheering*

The following list are the 16 people who have qualified for the second round of the Extreme Speed Open! First off, we'll show you the wildcards and roll-ins we had to do last minute.

Roll-In #1-aragornbird

Our only roll-in, aragorn qualifies with only 6BP, yet a 3-0 record. He deserves to be there, certainly, beating three of our talented fighters in round one. Here's just hoping he'll be active (which he will, so long as his opponents are. ;) ) Not to mention he's a PC Wifi Tourney Champ.

Coordinator's Choice Wildcard-Volkner's Apprentice

It makes me feel really weird giving myself a wildcard, but I'm the only one left with 5BP. XD In addition, I would have had 6 with a 3-1 record had I not recently lost a heartbreaker to Dark RyanYugo, so giving this one to myself isn't too bad.

Past ESO Wildcard-Mystery2009

Mystery hasn't had a dream second ESO so far, going 3-2 in the first round and only finishing with 4BP. He looks for battles quite often and was our ESO#1 finalist, so of course this one goes out to him.

Newcomer Wildcard-desolation101

Despite losing a match today, bringing him down to 3BP, desolation was the next in line for a wildcard. He looks for matches often enough and probably has some hidden potential, since I know he's had a few good matches versus POKEMASTERALEX (our currently inactive coordinator, just until the holidays mind you).

So with that out of the way, next up comes the seedings list. This'll show you guys how the pairings for Round Two work. You'll be split up into teams, which will be explained in just a moment, and your seed determines your partner. Seeds 1-4 will be paired with 9-12 and 5-8 are paired with 13-16, just to even things out a bit. Your seed was determined by your record, amount of BP when you qualified, and the date you qualified on.

And if you were around for ESO#1, you'd know we do round two with "scrolls." There are two scrolls, Space and Time, themed like Diamond and Pearl. You check what seed you are, then see who your partner is. You'll be listed under Space or Time, and that is what scroll you have. What you want to do is challenge a team with the opposite scroll that you possess in order to have both, which will qualify your team for Round Three. The losing team is out. Aurafire will give you the details soon on how the Round Two battles/choosing your opponent works in just a few minutes. Here's your teammates and what scroll you have!

Space Teams
(1) Kanye West and (9) The Graceful Assassin
(3) The American Battler and (10) Matt-O
(5) Ito_Igami and (14) Volkner's Apprentice
(6) _Prince_ and (13) aragornbird

Time Teams

(7) cowan and (15) Mystery2009
(8) sam2243 and (16) desolation101

Alright folks....Congrats on reaching round two! 16 qualifiers means even more insanity to come! =P

And with that, here are the round two rules:

For round two, we're spicing things up a bit. The Extreme Speed is about surprises, so here it is: The point of this next round is scrolls. There are two types of scrolls: Time and Space (based on the Diamond and Pearl logos of course.) You'll receive one of these types of scrolls and you have to battle someone with the other.

Here's the catch! 16 people, 2 types of scrolls. We're dividing everybody into 8 teams of 2. Your partner will be determined by a seeded match up, and your seed will be determined by your progress in this tournament. A solid battle record and early entry into round two grants you a higher seed than someone who receives a wildcard or was one of the last few to qualify. The seeds will be posted with the team-ups underneath. Four teams will have a Space scroll and other four will have Time. You want to challenge one of the teams with the opposite scroll that you possess. After the pairings have been posted on Friday you and your partner will have 2 days to decide which team you want to battle. On Sunday, November 23rd at 6 P.M. EST (-5 GMT), you may commence challenges. After every team is paired with another team with the opposite scroll, round two matches can commence.

Here's another catch for you guys: challenging the other team is a race. Once you challenge a team of the opposite scroll, they can't refuse the challenge. So if Bob/Carol challenge Jason/Nancy, Jason and Nancy have no choice but to battle the first pair. To make things fair, however, the secondary team gets to decide who will battle who in the pairings. So if Nancy don't wanna battle Carol, girl don't have to. Mmmmmmhm.

Now onto how the battles will work!

Team A (Bob/Carol) vs. Team B (Jason/Nancy)

Team A has a Time Scroll and Team B has a Space Scroll. Team A logs onto PC early enough Friday and decided they want to fight Jason/Nancy for their Space scroll. They post so in the battle topic saying so and Jason and Nancy comply. So the matches are decided as:

Jason vs. Carol
Bob vs. Nancy

Here's two scenarios for you guys to mull over in your minds to predict how the round might play out:

Jason (B) def. Carol (A) 6-0
Nancy (B) def. Bob (A) 6-0

The B team has stomped the A team flat. Obviously it's the B team that moves on to round three.

Jason (B) def. Carol (A) 6-0
Bob (A) def. Nancy (B) 3-0

Oh snap! A trade off. Well here's how this works. The B team grabs a solid 6 Poke-defeats for Jason's win. The A team grabbed 3 for Bob's win. Since Nancy defeated three of Bob's team, even though she lost, now the score is B-9, A-3. B team moves on with a higher score! So even if you weren't too happy with your partner (don't vocalize that, please..) you still have a great shot at round three even if the match-ups are risky. That's what makes Extreme Speed fun!

Sucks for the A team. Anyway, that's how things would go down with the teams. If we get a draw in someplace, you'll just battle the opposite person and the combined score from all the matches would determine which team moves on.

If you have any questions, you guys know who to ask. The rules will also be posted under the prize post on the first page. So contact your partner and start planning! ^_^

what if we cant reach our partner?????

what if we cant reach our partner?????

If by Sunday at 6pm EST, they haven't responded, then feel free to go ahead and pick the team you want to challenge yourself. If your partner remains inactive through next week (since none of the above members said "I'm going to be away" then an alternate will fill in.)

sooo....round two is like a tag team tournament?

That's the plan, it's pretty similar to Kev's tournament, with a little difference. First you plan with your partner to decide which opposing scroll team you'd like to challenge. The challenged team then gets to decide who fights who (does A fight C and B fight D, or vice versa?) like that.

Remember you have to challenge a team with the other scroll. Time can't challenge another Time team. The challenges commence Sunday at 6pm EST as a reminder.

Moving on in the tournament revolves around the scores of the matches, not necessarily if you win or lose. For instance, if Ito_Igami and I were challenged by Ash/Misty:

Ash def. Volkner's 4-0

Ash just whooped me, so here's the current score:
Ash/Misty: 6 (for defeating my entire team)
Ito/VA: 2 (I was only able to defeat 2 of Ash's Pokemon)

Ito_Igami def. Misty 5-0

Woo! Ito moves us into round three. How's that you ask?

Ash/Misty: 7 (6 points from Ash, 1 point from Misty)
Ito/VA: 8 (whew, we barely scrape past them with an almost sweep thanks to Ito)

So even if you end up with a partner you're unsure of, there's still a good chance you can move on provided you put up a good fight in a match, not necessarily win.

Sweet, I'm partnered with Prince! All right!

Howdy everyone! Make sure you guys are contacting your partners and talking about who you guys want to challenge. Tomorrow at 6 P.M. (-5GMT), you may commence with the challenges. If all goes well, we'll have all the match-ups by tomorrow and we can go ahead and start with round two. Also, make sure you schedule your battle times so it can go as smoothly as possible! We don't want anyone pulling a Bendak like last tournament (long story) XD.

All ready on this end. Lets battle it up!!!!! Uh, how long do we have to complete round two anyway? =/

Alright, well like I said before were all ready. We got a team picked out to attack already, at least I think =/

Really? Why do you say that? =/

i love these "pulling a Bendak" references XD

awesome im with Kanye, hehe big mistake pairing us both with each other....

But it wasn't a mistake at all putting me and Ito on the same side as you guys. :P

Actually it was random/based on seeds so I didn't have the choice. Either way, Ito and I have half-picked a team, I'm just waiting for his confirmation, so expect us to be on the challenging forefront. Remember, it's basically a race, so if you get challenged before you manage to challenge another team, tough n00bskillets. You've got to battle the team who challenged you. However, in that scenario your team gets to choose who fights who, so it's pretty good.
