    The Future of the Souls

Years 2076, the greatest Pokémon trainer who ever lived, Ash Ketchum, died at the age of 89. The whole world mourned for him, cried for him. In honor of him, a 30 feet statue was erected at the Indigo Plateau of Kanto and Johto, Evergrande City of Hoenn, Sunyshore City of Sinnoh, Opelucid City of Unova and Snowbelle City of Kalos.

Many young trainers admired him and wished to be just like him. A boy who started to dream at the age of ten and later conquered the whole world by being the Pokémon Champion of the whole world. Not only had he become a Pokémon champion, but also a man of hundreds achievements. At the age of 39, after he became the world Champion, he devoted his life in making the world a better place both for the Pokémons and for the humans. He founded the Order of Ash aiming to destroy all the criminal groups that threaten the whole world.

After years of fighting, he together with his followers successfully defeated and abolished the different crime groups from Kanto to Kalos. Then after twenty years of his success, he died, assassinated. While he was visiting his old friend, Gary Oak, an armed man infiltrated the house and shot them both, cold bloodedly murdered the two old men…

    CHAPTER 1:

In a hidden house somewhere around the Kanto region.

The room was filthy. Papers were all around the place. Dust covered all the things that it could cover. From table tops to the wall itself. On the sofa, a young man around the age of sixteen was lying.

"Finally, The Ash Ketchum is dead" the young man said.

"Whatever" The girl sitting on the floor while reading a book said. "What's important is that we can finally show ourselves! Enough with the hiding" it continued.

"Hush now Dana" the young man said. "Thing will not become so easy again for us. The Order is still there." He continued while shifting in a sitting position.

"I don't care! Do something about it. I don't wanna stay in this forsaken place anymore!" the girl demanded, looking around at the place they called home. "I mean for Arceus sake Dominic! You are Giovanni's grandchild"

The young man, Dominic looked at the teenage girl. "Yes, yes I am" He whispered to himself.

"ASHHHHHHHHH!" Misty cried at the funeral of his husband.

Their son, Harold patted her mother's back as Ash's body was being buried. He was trying to hold his tears, trying to show to his mother and to his son, Kyle that he was strong enough to face his father's death.

Kyle was also trying his best not to cry. He became so close to his grandfather because of the story Ash frequently told him. Stories about his adventure and such.

    "ASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Misty cried again.

All their friends were there. Brock who was sitting in his wheelchair. May and Max who came all over to Hoenn. Tracey, Iris, Cilan, Clemont, Bonnie, Serena and the other. Everyone was there to show their respect to the Ketchum family. Oldness obviously got the whole of them.

After the funeral, the people slowly left the area, leaving the Ketchum family and their friend.

"Misty." May called. "Are you alright?" She asked, patting Misty's back.

    "Yes." She replied calmly.

    The next day.

The Ketchum family was staying at their mansion. May and the other left earlier to return to their homes. Misty was sitting on a wooden chair at the front of a huge glass window. She stared at the sky, her blue eyes still haunted by the memory of Ash.

Harold entered the room and went to his mother side. "Mother." He said. "You called me?"

Misty held Harold's hands tightly as she could. "Please Harold." She started. "Please. Do everything you can do to find out who killed your father and make him pay. Please"

    "Pay by justice. Yes Mother"

"Please. I could die in peace once you find his killer so please Harold…"

Harold hugged his mother tightly, tears was flowing from his eyes.

    Outside the mansion.

Kyle was sitting on the swing his grandfather bought for him on his seventh birthday. Sixteen years in life, it was the first time he felt so sad, so lonely.

    "Hey!" Someone called him.

He looked at the origin of the voice. At the entrance of the manor stood Nathaniel Oak, his friend since birth and Gary's grandchild. "Can I come in?" He asked smiling.

Kyle knew that if there was someone needed to be pitied, it was Nathaniel. He was now living alone in his house. His parent left him in the care of his granddad, Gary, when he was still young. His parents promised to return after a year but they didn't. As the result, he grew up in the care of his granddad and now that he was gone, he had no one.

"Yes. Please be my guess" Kyle said.

Nathaniel went to his friend's side and smiled. He sat on the other chair of the swing besides Kyle's.

"You don't need to smile." Kyle said.

"Course I need to." Nathaniel claimed.

    "You just lost someone."

"Yes. But that is not a reason to be sad." He said. "At least for me…"

"Of course" Kyle said making a little smile on his face. "Our granddads don't want us to be sad, do they?"

    "Yes." Nathaniel said simply.

Later on, Harold Ketchum emerged from the huge door of their mansion. He walked towards the entrance arch of their home while a fancy car was waiting for him outside.

"Where are you going?" Kyle asked his father.

"At the Order HQ." he replied. Kyle could see his father's eyes reddish in color and still wet, proof that he was just finished crying.

    "Why?"

"Now that father is gone, someone must take charge at the order and as his son, I should take the responsibility." Harold said professionally.

    "Can we come?"

"With Nathaniel." Harold looked at the boy.

    "Yes." Kyle said.

    "Just get in the car."

    Viridian City

The Ketchums and Nathaniel were overwhelmed by horror because of what they found in the Viridian City. The whole place was in chaos. The police were everywhere. Traffic was all around the city. People were screaming and running throughout the city. The sky was filled with dark smoke. Most of the houses and different structures were burning, engulfed by huge fire. The firemen and their water Pokémons were busy trying to contain the huge fire that was engulfing the city.

They reached the Order HQ and just like what they expected. The whole structure was already consumed by fire. The flag at the very top of the burning structure caught their attention the most. It was the flag of the Team Rocket.

"They have returned" Harold said to no one in particular.

    Chapter 2:

"Seriously!" Dana exclaimed while looking at Dominic who had just entered their 'home'. "You burned the whole Viridian"

Dominic leaned his back on the dusty wall and relaxed himself. His clothes were all tattered, obviously burned by fire. "Not whole. Just most"

"Whole and most are almost the same." She insisted, throwing a blanket at Dominic. "What was that supposed to be? A grand entrance for the Team Rocket?'

"Maybe" he replied, removing the dust on his red hair and on his face that he got earlier using the blanket Dana threw to him.

    Viridian City.

"Kyle, Nathaniel" Harold called. "Stay here in the car" He ordered to the two boys who were sitting at the back of the car. He then left the vehicle and ran towards the burning HQ of the Order.

Police officers were all over the entrance of the burning structure. Rows of car ambulance were waiting outside for the staffs that was trapped inside. Fire men surrounded the place, trying to tame the scorching place.

"It seems the Order of Ash do turned to ash" Officer Lenny joked to Harold who was running towards him.

"This is not the proper time to make such jokes" Harold said. The officer sighed. "What happened?"

"Well." Officer Lenny started. "A fire erupted and it's currently turning the city into ashes" She continued, stating the obvious.

Harold gave her a fierce look. "What happened in here!?" Harold repeated with a taut voice.

Officer Lenny sighed again. "Earlier this morning, a fire erupted on the third floor of the Order's HQ. No one knows why." She started explaining. "Witness said that moments later, countless balls of fire appeared and flew to different places -houses, markets such – flaring them up."

"Where did those things came from?" Harold asked.

"No one knows" she simply replied.

    "You have any other information?"

"Well, except for the burning city… I have nothing" she said.

"Give way! Give way!" A fireman shouted from the main entrance of burning structure. He was carrying an injured man.

"Is that…" Harold trailed off, running to the injured man who the firemen placed on a stretcher. "Ivan?"

The man tried to open his eyes at the moment he heard Harold's voice. "Sir" He whispered. "I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry" he continued in a weak voice.

The nurses immediately raised the stretcher to bring the injured man on the ambulance. Harold followed them. Lenny did the same thing. They waited outside the ambulance while the nurses were treating Ivan's injuries. A moment later, the nurses came out and nodded to Harold. He then immediately opened the door and entered the vehicle. Inside, Ivan was lying on a bed.

Ivan looked at the door to see who entered the vehicle. "I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry" He repeated over and over again when he found out that Harold was his visitor

"Why are you apologizing?" Harold asked

"It is my fault. It is all my fault." He said weakly. "The boy…"

    -flashback-
    Earlier, before the fire started

The sun had just rose. People were busy cleaning their yards, other were still opening their homes. Some people went to the market to open their stalls. The streets were still free from the crowd that was expected to dominate later in that day.

The Order of Ash had just finished mourning for the death of their founder and leader for his son would later take his place. Preparation was being made. The stage was being decorated by colorful lights and curtains. The hall was being prepared for the ball that would happen later. Chairs and tables with fancy clothing were being scattered all around the place.

"And make sure that the sound systems will work perfectly" Ivan, the head of Order of Ash, Kanto branch, reminded the technicians that were preparing the sound systems on the side of the stage.

"Yes sir!" One of the technicians said.

Ivan was busy planning the whole event that would happen later when someone rang the doorbell.

"I'll get it" One of the maid presented.

"No." Ivan interrupted. "Let me. It must be the cake deliverer."

Ivan walked through the main hallway where the maids were busy cleaning the whole place. He reached the huge door and opened it. Outside, a young man with a red hair was standing.

"Good morning!" The boy greeted, giving Ivan a big smile. "I'm Dominic from the Hoenn region."

Ivan gave the boy a puzzled look. "What can I do for you?"

"I'm just a new trainer here in Kanto and Nurse Roy told me that I could get my first Pokémon here" he said, peaking at the inside of the place childishly. "And also my Pokedex." he continued, looking at Ivan again.

"Yes. This is the place." He confirmed. "But we are kinda busy right now. Just please return tomorrow"

"Ohhhhhh" the boy said bitterly, turning around to leave the place. He gave Ivan a glance before walking away.

"Okay, okay" Ivan called the boy back. "Follow me"

Ivan entered the mansion and Dominic followed. They went to a room full of benches on the third floor. He looked at Dominic. "Wait here. I'll be back."

Dominic gave him a smile. "Okay!"

Ivan left Dominic in the room.

"Well, it seems that today will be a busy day." Dominic said to himself, getting the two pokemballs that he hid in his small bag. "Come out, you two"

He tossed the pokeballs in the air and they opened. A blinding light flashed and a silhouette of a bird and a four-legged Pokémon were formed. The light faded and at the front of Dominic stood a large avian Pokemon with orange plumage, its wings were shrouded with fire and so as the top of its head. The other was a massive beast covered with brown fur and a light gray mane along its entire back. It had a gray paws with brown pads and black cuff-like bands on its legs.

    "Moltres, Entei." Dominic called. "BURN"

Both the legendary Pokémon obeyed their master's command. They released a massive flame from their mouth that burned the whole room and soon the whole building. Dominic stood at the center of the two, protected from the fire. The two then created numerous ball of fires which they threw outside of the building, burning everything.

The fire alarm buzzed. The door of the room opened. Outside was Ivan, looking at the boy's devilish face. His childish smiles were replaced by chaotic laughter. Dominic looked at him. "Sorry. I forgot that I already have a Pokémon." He said mockingly.

    -end of flashback-

"I'm so sorry that I let him in" Ivan apologized again to Harold who thoroughly listened to his story.

"Don't worry. It isn't your fault" Harold reassured him.

"Yes it is sir. Yes it is"

Harold turned to Officer Lenny who was sitting beside him. "Please do –"

"Yes I know" Lenny interrupted him. "Identify who this Dominic is. Catch him. Blah blah blah."

Harold smiled at her then turned to Ivan. "Get well soon" he said softly.

The officer and Harold left the vehicle and looked at the structure that was still engulfed by fire. "It will take another four or five hours to kill that fire" Lenny said.

"Who do you think this Dominic is?" he asked Lenny, dropping the subject about the burning HQ.

    "Dunno"

"As Ivan described Dominic, he could be a teenager just like Kyle."

    Lenny nodded.

"And he has a Moltres and an Entei." He continued. "And look at that" Harold pointed at the Team Rocket flag at the very top of the burning structure.

"Let me guess" Lenny said. "You will – "

"What if he is the new boss of the Team Rocket" He cut Lenny's statement.

    "That's what I'm gonna say."

After another conversation, Harold returned to his car where Kyle and Nathaniel were waiting. "Sorry I took so long" He apologized to the boys.

"It's just alright, father." Kyle said. "After all, we just met a new friend, right, Nathaniel!" he continued, looking at Nathaniel.

"Who could that be?" His father asked.

"A red haired boy named Dominic" Kyle replied to his father whose face turned to a Gyarados.

    Chapter 3:

    Pokémon League, Indigo Plateau

Guinevere, the Kanto Pokémon League Champion, was looking at the part of the sky that was covered by black smoke, the smoke coming from the Viridian City. As the current champion, she knew that she needs to do something about it.

She sat on the sofa in the center of the room and turned the flat screen TV hanging on the wall on. The Viridian tragedy was all over the news.

"This is Jake, reporting" A reporter from the TV said. He was standing at the front of the burning HQ. Gwen noticed the Team Rocket flag proudly standing at the top of the structure.

    She sighed.

"Ma'am" A maid knocked at the door. "Your little brother is here"

Guinevere turned to the door. "Let him in."

The door opened and a red haired boy entered the champion's room. "Hi!" He greeted.

"What do you want?" Guinevere gave the boy an irritated look. "Dominic"

"Dominic!" Harold said to the boys, trying his best to keep himself calm.

    "Yes" Kyle said.

Harold sat on the front sit of the car and ordered the driver to drive them back home. The driver followed his master. Harold turned to the boys. "I have something to tell to the two of you."

While driving on their way back home, Harold told to his son and Nathaniel the story that Ivan told him. The thing about Dominic, Moltres and Entei and how he burned the city. Shock hit them both. They never thought that a boy as old as them could do such thing.

"But he is a nice guy" Kyle protested. Nathaniel agreed. "Maybe Ivan is lying"

"I believe he has no reason to lie" Harold said.

Kyle couldn't believe it. He just befriended the one responsible in the Viridian fire.

"So, what did he told you? The thing the three of you talk about?" Harold asked his son.

"Nothing. Just things about Pokémons and such." Kyle replied.

When they reached the Ketchum manor, Harold went inside the mansion and searched for his mother. Kyle and Nathaniel both went on the swing standing in the yard. Kyle sat on the swing and Nathaniel stood beside him.

"You really is a quiet type eh" Kyle said to his friend. He noticed that Nathaniel didn't speak any word in the whole ride earlier.

"I guess." He replied. "You didn't told your father the truth"

"I told him the truth" Kyle protested.

    "But not all"

Kyle smiled at Nathaniel. "Yes. So??"

"I know what you're thinking and please don't. Just let the adults handle this thing."

"Why?" Kyle questioned. "I mean, Dominic is just sixteen"

"And because he is just as old as us, we can let ourselves enter this mess. That's what you're thinking, right?"

"Exactly. Besides, he just wanna meet us"

    "I'm not going" Nathaniel said.

    "Yes you are" Kyle guaranteed.

"Please leave us." Guinevere requested to her maid who immediately closed the door. Once there was no sign of people outside the door, "You burned a city! Why?" she asked his brother.

"I'm bored" he replied in a boring tone, looking at the dark part of the sky outside. "Can you do me a favor?" he asked his sister, turning his voice into a jolly one.

"Is this about the Team Rocket revival?"

    "Kind of. Yes"

    "No!"

"Could you please keep the elite four busy?" Dominic requested to his sister.

    "I said no"

"Just for a three day or four" he continued, ignoring his sister's answer.

Guinevere sighed. "Just be sure that the public will never identify you"

    The next day

The elite four were sitting at their designated places in the conference room. A huge pentagon shaped room with a pentagon shaped table in the center surrounded by five chairs.

"Where is Guinevere?" Elite four Lloyd, a trainer specialized in steel type Pokémon asked the other member.

"She will be here, any moment now" Elite four Marian, a bug type Pokémon trainer replied.

"Can we trust her?" Elite four Rhea, a water type Pokémon master doubted, turning to Marian. "I mean, we know her history, her life. And rumors say that his mother was the previous boss of the Team Rocket."

"She is the champion." Elite four Augustus, a ghost type Pokémon trainer said, getting the attention of Rhea. "We must trust her."

The door opened and revealed Guinevere walking towards them with her Regice floating besides her. She stopped walking when she already got the attention of the four.

"Guys! Sorry for this." She announced. "Regice, freeze the place."
