It's that time of year again! What is a Get-Together without it?

Two years and still goin' strong:

Welcome, one and all, to PokéCommunity's seventh Great Egg Swap!

[PokeCommunity.com] The Great Egg Swap VII: This Time It's Scrambled
    How Does it Work?

    1. Breed ONE egg. It can be absolutely anything you like - the more unusual the better!

    2. Register your name here. Use the registration form below to register you name and friendcode. It will appear in the participant list and you will be assigned a number. You cannot begin swapping until you've been assigned a number.

    3. Get swapping! Swap your egg with someone using the standard Wi-Fi trading system, then swap that egg with someone else. Keep swapping with as many people as you can and earn points. The person with the most swaps at the end of the event wins a shiny new emblem (and second and third too, but only not as shiny). We would prefer if you asked another person to swap via. VM or PM (their names will link you to their profile).

    4. Report it. Once you have completed your swap, post here using the report form below detailing who you swapped with. You need to do this to claim your points. 1 swap = 1 point for each participant.

You can start swapping on the 5th July as soon as you have received a Participant Number.
The swap will end on the 8th July with the rest of GT10. A banner will be posted - after that no more swaps will be counted.

You can register all throughout the event, but bear in mind that the sooner you do it the sooner your name gets on the list, and the more swaps you can do!

And of course, after it has finished, be sure to post which Pokémon you got!

[PokeCommunity.com] The Great Egg Swap VII: This Time It's Scrambled
    A Few Rules...

    1. You may only breed ONE egg yourself. Once you have traded that egg, you cannot breed another. Once you have traded you must ONLY use that egg to trade with - you cannot switch it out with any other eggs you may happen to have in your game already.

    2. You may only use one game to swap. You cannot swap eggs using multiple games.

    3. The swap is open to Generation V games only:

[PokeCommunity.com] The Great Egg Swap VII: This Time It's Scrambled
[PokeCommunity.com] The Great Egg Swap VII: This Time It's Scrambled
No Generation IV games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver) are allowed. However, you are not restricted to just Generation V Pokémon. Breed whatever you want from any Generation!

    4. Your swap points will only be counted when both users post to report the swap. Kip, Forever & Vaporeon7 have final say on who has what points. Your points WILL NOT COUNT if both of you do not post using this method. If you're still unsure on how it all works, we suggest you have a look through last time's thread.

    5. Once you have swapped, you may not swap with the same participant again until you have both swapped with another participant. Try to avoid swapping with the same person - instead swap with as many different people as possible.

    6. DO NOT LET THE EGG HATCH. This is essential. If you have to put it in a PC Box in order to prevent it from hatching then do so. Just make sure you can find it again.

    7. TRY TO AVOID TRADING TRIANGLES - if you're swapping in a triangle it's just the same three eggs going round and round. Try waiting for others to come online. You may not deliberately exclude participants in order to selectively gain points - this sort of behaviour is not only immoral and indecent, but a bannable offence. Anyone caught in a trading triangle pact will be disqualified. If you suspect any player of being in a trading pact with any other players, you can PM either Kip or Forever anonymously.

    8. NO HACKED EGGS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. You may not use cheat codes or any form of modding software to create an egg that is not legitimately obtainable in the games (e.g. a Mew egg). Anyone caught doing so will be disqualified from this event and referred to a moderator.

Let me know if you want any of the pending volunteers in here (Twiggy/vaporeon7).

Also, participants should edit their original post and keep track of their own scores. This seems more neat to me, and you wouldn't have to subject anyone to tallying the points.

    Will do.

Also, participants should edit their original post and keep track of their own scores. This seems more neat to me, and you wouldn't have to subject anyone to tallying the points.

The problem with that is that it is way too easy to cheat, because all we have is their word that the scores are accurate (cheating has happened in the past). Participants may also get confused and mixed up when it comes to tallying, and they may miss points they should have gained/gained points they shouldn't by accident. The system we use at the moment has the advantage of double-checking every one's scores (the post/confirmation part), and make sure everyone's tally's are accurate. The latter part is important because this event does have the potential to get very competitive. :)

The downside of that is puts all of the scoring down to the hosts (I did it myself the first time and was pretty blown away by it), which is why we're thinking of taking on additional hosts to share the workload this time around. Only issue is co-ordination - with me in the UK and Nica in Australia we had more-or-less the whole 24 hours covered; bringing in additional host may lead to a problem of two people editing the same post at once without knowing it and messing up the scores. I'm thinking of starting a dedicated IRC room for us so we can check-up to see if anyone is currently doing a tally and to better co-ordinate the event.

Another thing is, we just don't want people gaining +1s from this event, so if you do the tallying by post, then it should definitely be in a forum without post count (Trade shops?).

Generally speaking that hasn't been an issue in the past. Some GTs had post-counts disabled, others hadn't.

Post count should not be enabled for "I swapped with X."

Yeah they definitely shouldn't. Last time I think they were and people got like over 100 posts cause of it.

    Updated:

    • New-style banner - now 800px wide and CSS'd up. Mostly because monitors have gotten bigger since the original template was created two years ago (where did all the time go?). We're visiting Sootopolis City this time. :)

    • Removed most references to PCX, added correct dates. We need a vague time of when to stop.

    • Added Vaporeon7 to host lists. Vappy - I need to know which game/FC you plan on using for this one. :)

    GT8's had 1500 posts.
    Holiday Hop's had 1000 posts.
PCX's event had 128 posts (I can live with this tho).

The post count farming is something to consider too. Many egg swap posts barely contain 25 characters, causing members to use 'filllerrrrr' or whatever. Many posts are barely four words; I don't consider # to be one. I can't recall any GT I've been in that had disabled post counts. It is something hstaff can discuss, though. I'll have a verdict before GT airs.

I don't think one can get too confused with tallying their own points. It worked well in Speed Trade. Hstaff can check the post editing history if it cheating ever becomes an issue.

    Holiday Hop's had 1000 posts.
PCX's event had 128 posts (I can live with this tho).

I've done some calculations on that:

Egg Swap Number: number of posts / number of members: average post count

    ES6: 128 posts / 28 members: 5
    ES5: 1000 posts / 36 members: 28
    ES4: 1000 posts / 30 members: 33
    ES3: 1500 posts / 45 members: 33
    ES2: 1000 posts / 55 members: 18
    ES1: 600 posts / 31 members: 19

Average post gain from an Egg Swap event:
    (5+28+33+33+18+19)/6= 23

I don't think one can get too confused with tallying their own points. It worked well in Speed Trade. Hstaff can check the post editing history if it cheating ever becomes an issue.
The problem with that is lack of transparency. With the current system both participants and hosts can see plainly who has scored what, when, and if it's been confirmed. So if a host or participant believes there is a miscalculation somewhere (it happens), they can go through and check the thread for themselves without any issue.

It's also a lot easier to pick up any patterns with this system, so if we believe someone is cheating, we can deal with it much quicker. These patterns would be much harder to detect if we were to compare the editing history of every post made.

I can't recall any GT I've been in that had disabled post counts. It is something hstaff can discuss, though. I'll have a verdict before GT airs.
I've seen a few past Egg Swap being moved to the Trade Corner after the GT has finished (e.g. Egg Swap 1), which I think nullifies any post count accumulated during the event. If post count is a big issue, then that is probably the best option.

Also if we're worried about people joining this event just to get their post count up (which I find unlikely given past events, but it is possible), then I can include a small note on the first post saying 'Any posts posted here will not count towards your forum post count after GT10 has finished' just to make doubly sure.

I agree with it moving to the Trade Corner at the end, and on the cheating note, yeah, we definitely don't want that to happen again after the issues we've had in the past, and people will do anything to win, unfortunately. I mean unless we invented a hack to keep score, the separate posts is really the best option > TC.

Updated first post with new emblems and updated (but not completed) banner. This banner will do for now - when I find time tomorrow I will update it. The event can still go ahead with this banner.

I have a few friends round at the moment so I'm a bit busier than I thought I was going to be. Slight miscalculation there, my bad. >_>

The ForeverKip account needs to be EO'd if it hasn't already. Forgot about this until today! We use it as our shared account so we can all securely log in and update the first post quickly without having to wait for anyone. It's worked very nicely in the past. ^^

    posted kip, lgi!

    (nica, btw)

also, uh, does vapor have password? also we should go to synirc (irc.synirc.net iirc) chan #eggswap when we're about to update to make sure nobody else is already updating, if nobody else is in there do /mode #eggswap +s so no randoms come in and intrude we should be good otherwiseeee~
