Don't Panic. I'm suprised that there was no thread on the books, radio plays, tv series, or movie. Anyway, this is for discussion on any of those. How many people here like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? The book is full of irony and comedy. My favorite part was when God disproves his exsistance by proving he exsist.

I love the books, though the last two books aren't so hot. You've just re-awoken my desire to read them, so I'll just be off falling over... though not hitting the floor!

Seriously though, the style of humour is pretty much unique. Where else can you get a guy figuring out part of the meaning of life by playing scrabble or get a foreman due to knock your house down to lie in front of your house to stop the demolition going ahead because you're too busy to do it yourself :P

42 was my favourite number for months after I read those books :P But, I personally think that whilst the books are great, Disney is going to ruin the movie. The budget went from $200 million down to $20 million... although the Blair Witch's budget was $275,000 and that's one of the most successful movies of al time XD

What do you get when you multiply six by nine? Forty-two. How many roads must a man walk down? Forty-two. The Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Forty-two. :D
The movie looks good right now. I don't think Disney will ruin it by lowering the budget down to $20 million. Can't wait for April 29.

;_; Can someone give a brief summary of this? Because I have not heard of it *feels stupid* ~origin

there is no such thing as a brief summary. It's like asking for a brief summary of the universe, there's too much to possibly summarise it well. the only thing I can suggest is you pick up the book (preferabbly BEFORE the film comes out) and sit and read it.

I'm sceptical of the film, as I don't really like book-film conversions, especially something as unique as this. If we're not careful, Marvin will have to fall in love with a female android because of a disney re-write, but maybe that's just me being cynical...

o-o ::blinks:: No summary? You mean.. the book is that immense and spectacular? I must check it out! ~origin

Disney didn't write it. Douglas Adams wrote a lot of the screenplay before her died suddenly. They were going to make a movie and Adams would be writing it, but it got postponed because of his death. Then a guy named Karey Kirkpatrick finished it by using Douglas Adams's notes, the books, and the radio plays. It's being directed by Garth Jennings. None of these people are releated to Disney. The only thing Disney is doing is releasing it. So there's nothing to worry about. I hope. Here's an interview of the person who finished the screenplay.
For a summary of the book, here's one from Wikipedia on H2G2. Though, you won't understand much unless you read the books which I recommend.

Oh thank god for that, I was worried we were going to have a song and dance fest done in CGI or something *wipes brow*

Yeah. Have Marvin do a little dance and sing a song about his views on the Universe.  I would not watch that, but it would intersting to see Marvin dance. And sing. Both highly improbable.
