With the current crisis in Japan, I have to wonder what the future of the anime is. Now, obviously we have a good twenty episodes yet to be dubbed into English, but how long will it be until the next few come out in Japan? I doubt their current interest involves doing voicing.

    Thoughts?

Well I'm assuming the production takes place in Tokyo which wasn't as badly affected as the North Eastern cities.

They'll definately take a break, though I imagine it'll be between a few weeks and a month, while they repair any damage to facilities, allow an oppurtunity for staff to sort out personal concerns and also because the tv networks will be more focused on providing coverage for the earthquake. From what I've seen on the news most of Tokyo's residents want to return to normal life as quickly as possible so I can't envisage a real long term halt in production. I'm guessing the dub will take a break as well soon in order to leave a healthy gap.

Pokemon unlike shows like Naruto doesn't break the fourth wall so I can't see a tribute show to raise money or something like that. Shame as it would have been nice.

Oh, wow, good article. Thanks. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

At the very most I think it would be a three week hiatus, they could have production back up now or in a couple days, although I am sure they have time off due too the Earthquake and seeing if everyone is alright and what not, considering this is the biggest Earthquake ever recorded in Japan.

I'm not sure the show will be affected by the events. The dubbing has probably been done for many more episodes already and I doubt TV Tokyo will broadcast news about the earthquake 24/7. I really hope the TR centered episode gets out this week >_<. But I'm being selfish, there are obviously more serious concerns.

i'd rather they focus on recovering anyways. if it comes down to pokemon episodes in english or a country bouncing back, i'll take the country. and the fact that it's japan makes me cheer them on even more.

is all dubbing done only in japan? japan does so much

Not unless there's a major nuclear meltdown, in which case we're all screwed.

But by the way things look like, I don't think there will be major enough delay in production to cause a week to be skipped or something. 'The Show Must Go On' also applies to the business/$$$$$ world. Production goes on in Tokyo, and Tokyo wasn't exactly affected anyways.

tokyo wasnt really effected that badly. It might stop one week, but nothing past that

As I reported on Saturday, I am informing you of a change in TV Tokyo's schedule following the aftermath of the earthquake off of the north-eastern coast of Japan. Previously, for this Thursday and next week, the episodes scheduled to air were the Team Rocket VS Team Plasma episodes, which featured destruction within Castelia City and the Desert Ruins. At this moment, these episodes have been removed from the schedule out of respect for those affected by the accident and the next episode, Episode 684; Castelia Gym Battle - Pure-Hearted Bug Pokémon Battle! is set to air. TV Tokyo have stated that they intend to air the episodes at a later point. When we know when they'll air it, we'll let you know.

Well, it looks like episodes are being aired out of order. Oh well, it's nice to see them show some respect.

I hope they don't skip the episode entirely. I was somewhat excited about this one.

It's a good thing they moved the Team Plasma episodes to a later date out of respect to Japan. But here's what I don't get: the TR trio is still acting serious in the TP episodes, but in BW25, they start to revert back to their old selves (and how will that be handled when the TP episodes air, considering the episodes are out of order?).

guys... If a fire razed chicago... do you think they stop making movies in LA? comon now... pokemon is a business. the japanese are businessmen... more than us.. pokemon will keep being made until we stop obsessing over it... so forever I suppose.

With all that crisis which is happening out there i suppose it will take awhile before economy and production starts normally again affecting TV shows like pokemon aswell .Japan has been experiencing hell lately(earthquake, tsunami and now nuclear crisis) and personally i would rather have them recover first and get up on their feet again being main priority.

I also find as nice and respectful gesture to all poor people who were affected by catastrophe that episodes about Team Plasma and Team Rocket are being delayed and saved for more appropriate moments.

I think that within next few weeks or in worst case months, assuming nothing else happens new episodes of pokemon anime will continue normally but for time being and understandable reasons some break was inevitable.

Let's hope they just don't do the same thing with the forever-forgotten Wiscash episode now.
