Schruhen didn't even need any other instructions. He dove towards the cave quickly. They landed just outside of it. Alanna helped Corazon off Schruhen, and they raced into the cave.
Suddenly, in the damp, unfeeling darkness, Alanna fell to the ground in pain.
"Schruhen!" she cried aloud and in her mind.
Alanna...his voice came to her, full of strain and suffering.
"I have to...go..." she told Corazon. "I hope Lavender is all right..."
She stumbled out of the cave, her vision failing her slowly. Blood poured from her side, and she gasped in pain. Her once white tunic was now stained crimson. Schruhen lay in the grass, a few yard away, the grass around him stained with blood.
Alanna used all her energy to run to him, to lay by his side. He turned his head to face her as she fell at his side. They locked eyes, feeling life leaving them slowly, painfully. The assassin had left already, but the arrows remained in Schruhen's back.
A...human...did this? she cried, tears spilling down her face. She touched Schruhenfanfare's face weakly, feeling every bit of pain in his body. She felt so weak now....her hair matted on her head with blood, her hands and clothes caked in it. They broke the code! They can't do this to us! I should have been here to defend you! I could have...saved you...
She cried harder, her lungs beginning to sieze up. Blood began to gurgle in her throat.
Schruhen...I'm frightened... she whispered weakly, hugging his large face to her as tight as she could.
Schruhenfanfare used his last energy to curl around her protecively, circling her body with his, laying his head next to hers.
It's okay, he assured her, closing his eyes, and nuzzling her face. We're together. We can face it all together. No matter what comes next, one of us cannot go where the other can't follow...
Alanna linked the tears away slowly, feeling weak. She could see no longer. The world was a great void. All she could feel was blood-caked, muddy, snow and grass beneath her body, and Schruhen....Schruhen all around her, by her side forever.
I love you, Schruhenfanfare, she told him adoringly, taking her last breath.
I love you too, Alanna, he assured her weakly, taking his last breath as well.
The two of them lay on the ground together...together forever.
