THE LEGEND OF ZELDA - THE COLLAR OF SOULS (pokemon hack idea)

I've got a nice idea for a hack. In fact, If I wasn't already making my own hack, I'd do it, so if anyone wants to do it, do go on (but notice that it would be a hell of a work, it's a radical change and the only thing that should be left is the original pokemon game engine). I may help with documentation and more ideas if someone worth of it does the hack.

A zelda game based on pokemon: The legend of Zelda: the collar of souls. (for example)
The basic idea is that the monsters of the game are the monsters from the zelda series. This would require a lot of documentation and spriting, but well, you gotta work a bit! I think that if you check enough zelda games you'll fill the "pokedex" (which could be your fairy companion's knowledge). If not, you can always take advantage of different representations of monsters in different games (for example, in most games octorocks are red with white eyes and live in land. but in the N64 games they're purple, sad green eyes, long body and live in water, so you can make octorock and sea octorock. Same with zoras. I discovered recently that those ugly sharpshooter fish that appear in water in the small consoles editions are supposed to be the same race as the elegant fish people from OOT... it's like that game was made by someone else or what?)
For evolutions, use logic and imagination. Octorock evolves into big octorock.

The types of the monsters would be different (there must be light, magic... or something like that. I would take normal type off).
The attacks must be heavily edited. For example octorock will know rock spit. HMs could be the equivalent of weapons from the game. In fact, since link isn't bearing his sword, and it's the monsters who attack and such, let them hold the sword and other items. For example, instead of HM CUT, ITEM SWORD, instead of HM STRENGTH, ITEM BRACELET, and so on.

The collar of souls thing is because the main thing on the game is that link would be catching the monsters instead of killing them, so it's like if the main item of the game is something that captures the soul of the monsters. I've though about the pearls of a magic collar, but if you think on something else, I couldn't care less.
Anyway, you should think of something about keeping the pearls of the collar somewhere, and being able to buy them (after all, they're the equivalent to pokeballs).
Adapt the pokemon game engine to the zelda universe. That's the basic idea of the game.

About the storyline itself, you should begin with some excuse for the game engine. Link won't be the only one that could tame the monsters. Maybe everybody has a collar of souls, or they have another way to control the monsters... also, add the typicals of the game: time paradoxes, magical ocarinas, know-it-all owls, milk bottles, etc.

    Uhm.
Me and Erimgard had a similar idea also, but our concepts were a little different.
There would be no catching pokemon, but the monsters would be still there and you could fight them. It would be a highly puzzle game.

A few pokemon would be changed to "Characters". Then in the story you could use the "givepokemon" command to have certain characters join your party, like in a RPG.
    :)

This is quite a good idea, as it is a very creative idea. Though I, personally, do not like crossing two games together. If it be Zelda, South Park, etc. Anyways, I guess someone can take control of it, but I'm not.

That sounds cool too, reminds me of final fantasy

man it seems like a lot of people wanna make a zelda game from the pokemon engine ;)

the hving characters join ur party liek that reminds me a little of the tales games myself...

It's definitely an original idea, but it seems that it would become very difficult. And typically, Zelda games have enemies concentrated in large groups, which would be difficult to do with the "cut scene" battle style of the Pokemon game engine.

This particular idea is very interesting, but I'm curious on how you how create a fairy companion that would follow you. Even the best hackers have yet to come up with a successful yellow remake because, they can't figure out how to get the pikachu to follow the player. I'm 99% positive you would run into the same issue.
It's a solid idea though, you seem to have thought it out very well, and in the end I think you would be able to make it work. However, I also believe that more advanced and powerful hacking tools may need to be developed before this hack will be possible.

well u might nt rly need the ferry to show up in the ow but it's liek a different name for the pokedex baro was throwing around , from what i gathered....

The fairy doesn't have to be a sprite following you. In the zelda games, she's hiding in your hat or clothes and only shows up when she speaks. It even wouldn't be necessary to show the fairy when she speaks, just playing a little sound effect when she's about to speak would be enough.

All the stuff I was talking about is doable, except the attack thing if you use fire red as a base (for ruby, you have A-tack, but as far as I know there isn't an equivalent for fire red).
The collar is an item that someone gives you, the pearls are just pokeballs... the pokedex, what I mean is that you just name it with the fairy's name, and when you meet the fairy she tells you to ask her about the monsters.

Of course, the groups of enemies thing would not be. the rest of the game would just be like pokemon's. Well, maybe the dungeon lords would be "trainers" with the portrait of the big monster, and his "pokemon" would be small monsters and himself.

The problem is not if it's possible to make it, it's to figure out how to.

I think that is doable, eversince WAH posted a new Tutorial about resizing minis. So just enlarge the mini and add a fairy behind the player, as you've just said. But I have yet to try the Tutorial. So what do you guys think??
