Raikou = Tiger mixed with sabertoothed cat. Seriously, he's striped, has saberteeth, has the flat, sloped nose of a cat, completely lacks the dog snout, he'd the only really definite one.
Entei = Ohh, his face it what throws people off. Aside from the face, which looks nothing whatsoever like a cat or dog (no shout or even ridge of a nose o.O) he's a lion. He has a mane, even if it is stylized and retractable claws. Show me a dog with retractable claws.
Suicune = I'm split. The face is a dog, hands down, that snout is just too wolfish, and even the body: one time I was looking at a friend's great dane from the side and it looked exactly like Suicune. However, it easily resembles a cheetah at the same time and had a spotted coat.
But it howls in 4ever!
I do call the the Three Dogs, however. It's just the typical term.
