What they should have done instead of all this snag shadow pokemon garbage is that they should have kept the same gameplay as all the other pokemon games, you know, catch a pokemon, fight gym leaders, have a rival...i thought PokemonXD was a disappointment, still a decent game though. What do you guys think?

well, if you say the mistake was in the shadow pokemon and no gyms, etc, then you would be talking about Coloseum, because it came first.

anyway, i thought the change-up was interesting, but i am glad it didn't last.

they really should have kept the classic gameplay tho...everyone enjoys it lol

yeah, i was hoping they'd have it classic with 3d gameplay... but what're going to do?
i like the handheld versions better anyway, and keep those as my "base" games (i keep all my best pokemon on gba).

i keep all my best pokemon on my gba games too....it really is a shame that they didnt make a 3d gba game on NGC, it would be soo kool! lol

Well, I disagree with you. Pokemon XD and Coloseum are great becaue they're different from the GB and GBA games. I find it pretty tiring going though eight gym leaders and an Elite Four every time (and even the GB and GBA Pokemon games are great). And doesn't XD have a Poke Spot where you can catch wild Pokemon?
I noticed no-one else posted here, so I decided to voice my opinion.

yeah, xd was a real let down. all of the commercials and advertisements made it look like it was the best thing in the world, but it turned out to be pretty lame!

Bah, topic creator, people like you are why we're on Super Mario Platformer #2314, Legend of Zelda: The Lampshade of no real significance and Final Fantasy Is it over yet.

I commend them for doing something different. Colosseum is the only reason that I ended up playing the Advance Generation at all. And even though I ended up buying Fire Red and Sapphire, I've still spent more hours playing Colosseum and XD...why? Because they're different. They're something NEW in the largely stale Pokemon games. They're full of 2v2 battling, and a game that requires working with what you're given, rather than just seeking out the uber pokemon early and winning. They have a plot that is different to the usual yawnfest that is 'Become a pokemon master and love your pokemon'. At least it's 'Steal the bad guy's pokemon, because you're awesome and all that.'

I actually like XD/Col for the simple reason that I don't feel that I'm compelled to collect several squillion pokemon and spend a ridiculous amount of time breeding them with ridiculous items to get the most out of the game.

And how can you hate them anyway? They have Miror B, who is singlehandedly the most entertaining character in the entire pokemon series. He's probably the first pokemon character in history that actually got me to chuckle, rather than going 'What, yet another moron I have to fight?'.

The charm of Colosseum and XD is that they're different. They're part of a wacky world with odd characters that aren't purely cookie cutter generic hero/badguy archetypes. While they are generic to some extent, they aren't uberbland like the GB/GBC/GBA characters.

I must say, atleast for Colosseum, there is a possibility that they were just being...lazy?

I think that I am about to Brick Break you aside the head for saying that!
They had to add XD to the game jarnua becouse you got HO-OH in the last game and Lugia was looking for it's lost brother.
So Lugia got snaged by the remaining Chiper members and got turned into a SUPER SHADOW POKEMON.
    And it all started again!

And I like the Colosseum and XD stuff becouse no badges means that you have no level limatations apon traded pokemon to lissen to you.

And I am also going to Brick Break asaide the head of the person that came up with the stupid "Vacation Island" cheep peace of crap of a cheet for Colosseum.
"A ISLAND WHERE WILD SHADOW POKEMON ROME"?
SHADOW POKEMON WERE CREATED BY ARTIFOSICLAY CLOSING THE DOOR TO A POKEMON'S HEART NOT FORM A WILD POKEMON GENDER MALFUNCTION!

    I can't deny some of that. :P

But then, lazy programming is the norm, it's just people don't usually notice it.

I agree that the Pokemon series COULD use a little bit of change... but that change was NOT Colosseum or Gale of Darkness. Put lightly, those games kinda sucked. I will address your statements one by one. Cause I'm just cool like that. :cheeky:

    1. They're full of 2v2 battling, and a game that requires working with what you're given, rather than just seeking out the uber pokemon early and winning.

1 (Response).Uhm... catching Pokemon is what made the games fun in the first place. The new games had few opportunities to actually catch Pokemon that you wanted, and I didn't find it nearly as fun working with the few Pokemon that were able to be caught.

    2. They have a plot that is different to the usual yawnfest that is 'Become a pokemon master and love your pokemon'. At least it's 'Steal the bad guy's pokemon, because you're awesome and all that.'

2 (Response). First of all, as weak as it is, the GBA games DO have plots. There's the evil organizations that want to take over the world using Pokemon... right? It's not really a series that NEEDS a great plot, anyway; it's just fun. Second of all, the plots in the console games sucked (or at least Colosseum's did). It just seemed like the story was hardly thought out and really rushed. Especially near the ending.

    3. I actually like XD/Col for the simple reason that I don't feel that I'm compelled to collect several squillion pokemon and spend a ridiculous amount of time breeding them with ridiculous items to get the most out of the game.

3 (Response). But that just means that you can play the game for a really long time without getting bored of it. You can quit whenever you feel like it, and there's always something new that you haven't done!

And as for Mirror B... don't make me go there. I'll pretend you didn't say that he was cool.

I have to agree with you someone, XD was just boring, I think it was just filler to keep people occupied until Diamond/Pearl came out. I did'nt think the story was bad in colosseum, but they recycled it making it a bad one(I mean c,mon! It was practically the exact same Plot!!). Oh, and the characters were worse too. I thought that folks like Michael and Greevil sucked. Wes and Evice are much cooler.

    The only thing I can think about XD is that why give out either Cyndaquil/Totodile/Chikorita while you can get all of them on colosseum O_o. Even thou they got their EXTREME POWERFUL moves with loooooow accuracy. I wouldn't beat the mountain battle just for a johto starter that you allready got. O_o;;

I thought battling was what made the games fun in the first place. If pokemon had NO battling whatsoever, would it still be fun? No. What about if pokemon had no capturing? It could still be lots of fun. Heck, Stadium 1/2 is highly loved by a lot of people and it had NO capturing whatsoever.

Hey, I never said they needed a great plot, just something different from what's been in 10 pokemon games to date. And they have more of a plot. Hell, they're less cookie cutter than the GB games (Become awesome and love your pokemon and crap and save the world from the evil organisation while you're at it compared to save pokemon, by using the criminal's own tricks against them!)

Of course, looking for a plot in 99% of video games is a fallacy, but something even slightly different from the plots in 98.9% of games is refreshing.

3 (Response). But that just means that you can play the game for a really long time without getting bored of it. You can quit whenever you feel like it, and there's always something new that you haven't done!
Pokemon games haven't had anything new since contests and double battles, which they quietly scrapped in Fire Red/Leaf Green and XD (The moves don't even reference contest abilities), while double battles were basically ignored apart from XD/Col. The only new thing GSC introduced was Breeding and Day/Night, the latter of which was scrapped in the advance generation, and breeding still takes a criminal amount of time for it to actually have some worth.

The gameboy pokemon games have done the same basic thing on the whole for 10 years. There isn't something I haven't done yet, because they've done the same bloody things for 10 years straight!

Now, that being said, I am a completionist. I like to be able to complete my games, 100%. But, I just gave up on the GBA games. Completing them gives absolutely no satisfaction whatsoever, because it doesn't feel like you've accomplished anything whatsoever because you can't even complete it legitimately. At least in XD/Col you can complete the game, say you've completed it and get on with it. The GBA games, I feel like I'm forced to spend ridiculous amounts of time performing unoriginal and tedious tasks to get the most out of it.

And as for Mirror B... don't make me go there. I'll pretend you didn't say that he was cool.
He's more interesting than all of the other cardboard cutout characters in the Pokemon series, and has some of the best music in Videogame history to date.

^^ Well, okay. You definately got me with the part about battling being the most fun part of Pokemon. And the double battles were nice, because we definately got gyped in R/S/E. The battles in Collosseum and XD were waaaaaaay too slow, though. That's my main complaint about that.

I still disagree with a lot of the other stuff, but I guess that's why Colosseum and XD were made - for some variety. And they DID deliver that. I just didn't love the way that they did it.

Hopefully, Diamond and Pearl will give us a nice plot AND everything else that has made Pokemon great before. Then all of us will be happy! ^.^

I'm just glad they've got what appears to be a different flavor for Pokemon Battle Revolution. I pray that the word "Revolution" in the title isn't just false advertising.

I thought Colosseum and XD were awesome as. XD was really difficult to complete for me. I'm one of those 'all-out offensive' people who likes Pokemon with damaging attacks, no hindering moves. I also like to train one above the rest.

In XD I was faced with a new challenge. As I progressed I realized I didn't need just 1/2 Pokemon to beat the game (which would explain why I kept getting my butt kicked by everyone), and I didn't have any rendering moves.

Nowadays I train a full team, and I have a bunch of moves on my Pokemon that can render the opponent completely useless (My Delcatty can cause Attraction, Confusion and Paralysis all at the same time, it can't get any better than that).

The point I'm trying to make is that XD provided a challenge for me. I had to step up my game to be able to be good enough to overcome this massive obstacle. Because of this I am now a better trainer. I take greater care in raising my Pokemon, and I finally have legitimate strategy in my battle plans. The handheld platform games are so easy, they are almost encouraging me to continue my extremely bad habits.

Also, I am forced to adapt to using different Pokemon (this is also true with the Battle Factory from Emerald). I have grown fonder of different Pokemon, such as Mightyena, Delcatty, Ursaring, Jolteon, and many more. Because I had to change my style at the beginning of the game, where I really didn't have much of a choice in my Pokemon options.
