Which means he could be him, but by saying that, he could also mean that he's an Uchiha. Not necessarily Madara, because Madara is the founder of the Uchiha clan, desu. [And he is as old as dirt.]

The translation I read made me assume that he was infact Madara. Hmm....I guess your translation is more accurate.
