Welcome Dj, as well as everyone else.
For the record, it isn't easy making a hack. Especially not on your own. Most hack makers have what they call a "team" of people that specialize in their own category of hacking, such as mapping, scripting, and spriting. But I suppose if you become good enough at all of the above, you could do it alone if you like. Although that could take forever if you plan on finishing a full game, custom scripts and all. I'd suggest first learning the basics of something you're interested in, whether it be editing sprites or plotting the story and scripting it out. There are plenty of tutorial threads in the Emulating section of our beloved PC. Like I said, however, it isn't easy. You'd probably have to either have had experience with hacking and game design or be a really good learner. I, myself, am still trying to understand the basics of rom hacking. But I wish you good luck with whatever you decide to do. If you complete a hack, be sure to let me know. I'd love to try it out. :)

Oh look there's a "hangout" for the new people? What

We're not special enough for our own thread

Badabababaaaa.
I'm lovin' it.

That was so cheesy. But yes, I know I like the community so far. :)

Hey to the PC group. ^_^

My real name is Robin and as you can see in my info by here, I am a bit on the old side for a Pokemaniac. Well, been one since Senior Year of HS and haven't put the critters down yet! LOL

First off, I am a refugee from Smogon as I was learning the competitive thing wasn't really my style. I prefer more freeform without competitive movesets, IVs, and EVs to worry about.

Secondly, I will admit missing Gen 3 but got back in action with the DS generation of games and even got my hands on Sapphire, FireRed, and Emerald for my DS-Lite.

Favorite Pokemon is actually based on fond memories of which ones I've always put on my teams. I love the Grass and Fire-type starters but I did go with Mudskip on Emerald when I started playing it and I've found this Water-type definitely my style. Other than that, Dragon-types will always be awesome in my eyes. Though Lugia gets high marks for coolness and the fact that it has Aeroblast. ^_~

By the way, my battle style resolves around a combination of being either quick to hit, hit hard, or both. Basically, I try to Blitzkrieg my opponents and this is seen in my Platinum team of Infernape, Floatzel, Staraptor, Gabite, and Gliscor with Froslass reserved for the sixth slot.

Hope this gives you an idea of what I am about and will try to stay active here.
