Alright, as most of you should know, there were games that HG/SS were based off of. [/sarcasm]

I, like most people, bought SS specifically because it was a remake of Silver.

However, something seemed to be... missing.

I honestly don't know why, but this silver seemed... off.

Is it because I am older, and more experienced?
Or is it because of the graphics?

Is it possible to capture nostalgia with updated graphics and features?

    Discuss.

It did seem....different, but I only think that is b/c it's been what over 10, 11 years since Gold and Silver first came out. Really the only thing that seemed weird to me was the storyline. It seemed sort of shorter in HG/SS than it was in the originals.

I'll tell you what's missing! Kris! now we got that ... Lyra girl. Tey ruined teh whole game!!1!one!

Nah, just kidding, I don't think it is possible to recapture all the "magic" we experienced as young children venturing unto the unknown in the original game, neither those sounds, images and music ... but this remakes helped me remember those moments, not to relive them, to remember.

That's also very true. I had fond memories of kicking ass at the radio tower.

I think it was probably the graphics. I love 8-bit games.

I don't have the nostalgia factor, and I thought they were great games. SoulSilver blew Diamond out of the water, as far as I'm concerned.

I think it's great too, and I can't believe I couldn't complete my Gold and Crystal back then :P
It just remind me of how silly I was then, and how epic the graphics are now compared to the past. It's all good.

Actually, I've since changed my mind. The more I play these games, the more I grow to like them almost as much as the originals.

I enjoyed HG/SS, don't get me wrong, but they felt hollow compared to the originals. Personally, I think it's in the nature of remakes to not live up to the charm of the predecessors (I felt the same way about FR/LG). It was nearly impossible for the games to live up to the amount of hype. It would have been a lot more fun for me if I were new to Pokémon and didn't experience the earlier days.

You honestly took the words right out of my mouth.

I have nothing against HG/SS. I enjoyed them to hell and back, and kicked ass with my Miltank.

    It's just....

Those days curled up in my room, fighting bellsprouts and hauntars, the graphics...

I think that they need to produce more cartridges of Silver.

The problem isn't that they're different, it's the nature of nostalgia itself. Nostalgia is an idealisation of the past, you forget the bad and amplify the good. Kind of like a retroactive hype that it can't live up to.

One reason why SoulSilver seemed different to me was because the pair of games weren't different enough, like they used to be. The games aren't as "exclusive" as they used to be; for example, I would have been excited to know that someone had the opposite game as me. Also, they didn't change any of the Pokémon sprites between the two games, so that brought the games even closer together.

I' thought the firered / leaf green cames wasn't as good as they could of been, however I thought the latest remakes were great, it helped me recapture my younger days lol

Yeah now all fantards will come =/
I, quite honestly, did not enjoy SS much. Sure, it couldn't be the same.. but something is just.. I dunno. Missing. It just feels like it. They screwed some parts and the changes like the kimono girls, just give me Surf and GFTO!

...And yes, I did play a lot of time on my Gameboy Color. Just so fantards won't jump on me.

Also the whole "poke following you" is honestly crap and kinda annoying. << Disappointing, people were just like "OMG JUST LIKE YELLOW!!"... not a bit like Yellow at all.

I felt so nostalgic when I heard of them being made, and right up until I played it I was so excited. Then I played through the game once and haven't touched it since. I'm not sure what's missing but there is something. Don't get me wrong the games are cool I just don't feel they have any replay value as I've already played Gold to deathn and only got these games to relive the old games with better graphics haha.

Like Gold and Silver, I found Soulsilver easier than all the other Pokemon games. It seems rather short too, even though you're exploring two regions as opposed to one. I have only 50 hours put into that game, and all I have to do now is defeat Red. Pearl took me about 75 hours to explore everything, and the previous ones took me longer because I was inexperienced with Pokemon back then.

I'm pretty easy to please, so I enjoyed SS quite a bit, although I do agree it seemed short and a bit too easy. I remember Silver taking me forever to complete even Johto, yet with SS I was done with Johto in like a little over a day (I don't put the game down when I first get it).

Chosing my starter brought back a wave of nostalgia as well as battling my rival for the first time, but other than that, it was limited.
