wasnt there a thing in gold/silver where you could battle people online somehow?? i think it had sumn to do with phone numbers....

That was in the Japanese Crystal version, it had something to do with connecting the GBC to the cell phone and connecting to a mobile center or whatever it was called. You could receive events and I think you could battle trainers and stuff, but it got removed in the US release... Anyways it shut down a few years before, like in 2004 or something.

It got removed because the wire that connected the game boy to the cell phone would cost too much in the US release. It was too expensive for it's small job.

But that's how you got the GD Ball and Celebi.
