All of you are in shock, some of you may still be staring at Oak's bloody corpse on the floor, while others may be panicking and not sure what to do. Finally you remeber what Oak had told you about your first mission, and you knew you needed to rebound fast. If anything maybe getting to the Clan of Hopes base and meeting Zypher will help ease you into the process.

So whenever your ready you head back out the exit of the gym hoping to get a breath of fresh air, but immediately as you step outside any hope of fresh air is taken away as the darkness has destroyed the atmosphere, Pallet town is no longer standing just rubble of Oak's old lab that leads into the underground version. Even though it is only noon it looks as though it is eight at night due to the shadows shrouding the sky, the sun has not been seen in over two years. Finally you sigh and head off towards Route 1.

Route 1

Route 1 used to be such a beautiful small passage, where many starting trainers would catch alot of there new pokemon. The grass was a beautiful light green color, wild pokemon could be seen at almost every step, trees were full of leaves and health.

Nowadays things are different, the grass is dead, the normal wild pokemon who lived in the area have all migrated away, the few remaining wild pokemon are all viscous and will attack all out with no warning so be careful. The trees are all dead no leaves can be seen on any of them. The luscious green that once was is now gone.

As you walk onto the route you get a creepy feeling that you are being watched from afar, but you see nobody. The only thing you see is darkness and what it does to the things around you. Like ancient scribes would say "Darkness brings power, but power corrupts, those who truly wish to embrace the darkness must allow themselves to become corrupt".

Pokemon on this route:

Chapter 1: First sight of Darkness!

"I'm here!" Grecko shouted as he stared at the entrance to Oak's secret hideout. "This is where i'll become an effort to help Kanto...but can I even do anything worthwhile?" the new trainer thought to himself as he realized just how destroyed the region of Kanto was.

"Well I may or may not find my father here, and I may or may not be able to help the people of this region, but I will try my best for both!" Grecko thought to himself as he pushed the doors open and walked into what would be his official start as a trainer.

As Grecko entered the hideout he walked into what seemed like a lobby with several other people in it. "Hmmm...they must be the other new trainers who are here to help Kanto" he thought as he sat down three seats from one of them.

The trainers waited for what seemed like hours for Oak to meet with them. "Damn i've been here for an hour and a half and there is no sign of the professor....could this all be a trap to get rid of us?", Grecko wondered until a door opened from across the table.

The person who opened the door looked like Professor Oak from all of his old pictures last taken from the last time anyone has ever seen him, except that he looked beaten down and hurt. His hair was as grey as possible, and face was as tired looking as ever. "He may be old but he's got something going for him" Grecko thought as he watched the man handout six pokeballs and a pokedex to the other trainers.

"Ah you must be Mr. Rage!," the man said as he got to Grecko, "Here is the pokemon that seems to suit you best, and five pokeballs and your pokedex." he said with a smile that seemed out of place for the situation. The Professor continued to walk forward but stopped for a second and looked back at Grecko, "By the way, I knew your father...he was a great man, and one of the finest trainers i've ever known. If anyone has a chance of helping us it's his son."

This comment made Grecko smile, something that he hasn't done in a long time. "Thanks professor!" Grecko said as he stared at each object given to him. "I wonder what pokemon is in this ball!" he thought as he looked up and noticed Oak was about to talk.

"Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances. Your here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your exsistence, he will try to presuade you to join his cause. If you deny him then he will have you and your pokemon executed. At your current state you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his pokemon are all corrupt and full of evil, he will most likely come after you immediatly while you are weak so you do not get to strong. " Oak said then taking a deep breath he then pointed to the map.

This statement confused Grecko, but made him realize how crazy this Beo must actually be.

"This is what Kanto currently looks like covered in Darkness, currently you are here, in an underground lab under Pallet town where my old lab used to stand. Your first mission is to make it to Viridian city and go to the old Viridian Gym there you will find a hidden door that will lead to the Clan of Hopes hideout, show the man at the door your pokedex he will let you in, after this wait for a man named Zypher to come to you. That is all so take care young trainers, and let light lead you all" Oak said again sitting down at his desk taking a big sip of his coffee, he was nervous, but he knew it was out of his hands now.

"so that's it?" Grecko wondered as he thought about exactly what Oak had just said to all of them. But then things began to get intense as the ground began to rumble. "What the hell is going on!!!!" he screamed as he looked across at the room as it continued to quake and everyone bounced up and down.

"RUN" Grecko heard Oak yell from across the room, but it was to late. Six trainers in black cloaks appeared in front of the recruits and each of them new instantly what must be done. "Those Cloaks! They remind me of the ones that took my father! Go pokemon!" Grecko angrily yelled as he tossed out his first pokemon not knowing what it was.

"Cu! CU! BONE!" the brown pokemon with a skull covering it's head roared. "Ha it's a Cubone!" Grecko excitedly yelled as the black cloacked trainer said as he sent out a Gastly.

"GASSS!" the pokemon hauntingly chanted as it emerged. "Cubone use Growl!" Grecko commanded swiftly, remembering the training his father had given him.

"CUUUU!" the bone pokemon roared as it sent weakening waves towards the Gastly. "GAAAAAASS!" it cried as it rolled backwards. "Now Cubone use tail whip!" Grecko continued to command.

Cubone rushed in with it's tail, hitting the Gastly and knocking it down. "Gastly use Lick!" the black cloaked trainer urged as the Gastly weakly got up. "Gaaaas!" it said as it's tounge emerged from it's mouth. "Cubone! use another tail whip!" Grecko worridely yelled as that and growl were the only two attack Cubone knows so far.

"CUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!" Cubone charged up and whipped it's tail right into the mouth of Gastly thrusting it into the wall. "GAAAA..aaa...ss..l...y......" the pokemon said before falling unconcious. "Haha we did it Cubone!" Grecko said as he hugged his first pokemon. "CUBONE!" The pokemon chirped happily as Grecko praised it for winning.

"Looks like you guys aren't strong enough for the training my dad gave me!" Grecko laughed until he looked around and noticed that everyone had beaten the black cloaked trainers. The cloaked trainer looked across the room at Grecko and laughed as he grabbed another pokeball.

"What...what does he have now!" Grecko confusingly wondered to himself, while noticing his Cubone was also tired from it's first battle. The trainer threw it's next pokeball and out popped a fully evolved Gengar. "GARRR!" the pokemon laughed as Grecko looked down the room and noticed each of these Cloaked trainers had a Gengar out. "Ahhh Cubone can we beat that...yes we can...if we don't i'll never find my father!" Grecko thought to himself until he looks over and sees Oak being held down by shadows. "Whats going on....!" Grecko worried as a man emerged from the shadows holding Oak.

The man looks to each of the trainers as he stands over top of the powerless Oak. "HAHAHA!" he laughs as Grecko's eyes began to water from looking at him.

"That's enough, all of you can leave us alone now" he says as he waves his hand and everyone turns around to see the cloaked trainers vanish once again into shadows. "Ah!" Grecko is confused by the sudden dissaperance of these trainers.

"Now where oh where were we, oh yes I'd like to introduce myself" He says as he removes his hood revealing pure white eyes and long spiky black hair. He then pulls a small blood stained dagger from behind his cloak and knelt down besides Oak. "NO OAK!" Grecko tries to reach out and run to the professor but realizes he is frozen in mid air. "Who is this guy Cubone!" he whispers as he looks down to his also frozen Cubone.

"My name is Beo, it's very nice to meet you all, now Oak is there any last words you'd like to say to Kanto's last breath of life?" Beo asked Oak as he removed the shadows covering his mouth. Grecko wondered if there was anything Oak could say worthwhile that could save them all, and there was...

"YOU SCUM! ZYPHER WILL DESTROY YOU AND THESE NEW TRAINERS WILL HELP!" Oak screamed in agony as Beo waved his hand again over his mouth as shadows covered it again. He then took the dagger and swung it back in the air.

"YOU FOOL I HAVE ALREADY WON, AND I WILL USE THIS SAME DAGGER TO KILL ZYPHER HAHAHA" Beo said hysterically as he thrust the dagger into Oaks chest killing him instantly. He then pulls the dagger out slowly and licks the blood from it. "Now listen don't be frightened I just wanted to come and introduce myself to you all, it's not yet your time to die. No I want you to suffer first and be willing to give into the darkness, that's when will meet again" And with that he snapped his fingers and was gone.

Grecko watches as Oak's lifeless body lay still, and the man who killed him washes away in the shadows. "no...is there even a chance at anything...." Grecko wonders before looking over at the other stunned trainers.

Within an hour the trainers are rushed out of the building by Oak's assisstants and Grecko is left out in the darkness with Cubone. "Well Cubone..you don't have to see all of this constanty like I do now..." Grecko said as he returned Cubone to it's ball and stared off into the distance, his desitny.

Tim0789: Great first post! Glad you decided to redo Grecko this time around and make him a better character! Anyways Cubone grew to lvl 7! Cubone learned Bone Club!

Kabir looked at the bloody corpse that used to be Oak lying on the floor, simply staring at the blood that rippled away from his body and pooled up around him. The blood was thicker than it was in the movies. Kabir wanted to go over and inspect the body, see the vitals that had been pierced to lead him to die so quickly. Abra, however, was still trembling at his side. Kabir looked down at his Pokemon and then picked it up. Abra, though a lot smaller than Kabir, was still just a bit heavy. Alright, so he was about as heavy as Kabir's heaviest weights, but Kabir didn't mind. He was glad that he was in shape.

"Don't be frightened," he murmured. Kabir, though normally not very good at comforting, found that it seemed to work. "We'll get out of here together and it'll be alright."

Abra looked up at him and nodded slowly, the quaking stopping. Kabir frowned. He didn't like that his Pokemon got scared rather quickly. Then again, how could he blame Abra? Abra wasn't very old, after all. Kabir's frown disappeared and he glanced at the others. They all seemed to still be frozen. He decided to take his chance, and get going to find that Clan of Hope hideout deal or whatever it was called. He moved Abra to the top of his head, so the Pokemon was situated on his shoulders, and then walked out.

Kabir was hoping that it would be a bit refreshing to be outside, but immediately he found that it was in no way refreshing. The depressing and dark atmosphere crushed the freshness, no matter what way Kabir looked at it. Abra didn't seem to like it either, because Kabir could feel the Pokemon tense up. He frowned. If Pokemon were more in tune with nature, then how bad was this anyway? If Abra was getting all wigged out, then what the hell was going on outside of this area? Kabir glared at the sky for a moment, disliking the way his journey appeared that it wasn't going to be amazing. It was going to be downright dark and depressing.

Sighing, Kabir finally looked away from the sky and around. Pallet town was no more. He cursed under his breath, vaguely wondering if he should go home and check on his parents and family, but Abra tugged his hair. Kabir nodded slowly. Abra was right. He had to get to Viridian as soon as possible, otherwise he was going to be left a sitting duck. Kabir sighed and began to walk away from the rubble of Oak's lab, wondering exactly what time it is as he did so. Though it couldn't have been later than noon, it was so dark it looked like nightfall. Then again, that wasn't a surprise. He hadn't seen the sun in two years, anyway.

FrostBite: Great Post! You did what I wanted and that was to describe how your character was feeling at the moment after Oak's death! Now move on to post 2!

Kabir could barely believe that this was the same Route 1 he used to play on (with his father while his father did some form of research) as a child. It was so different now. It used to be lush with greenery, and there used to be so many Pokemon playing around in the fields. Kabir had actually stopped just to survey the land. Now the grass was pretty much dead, just like everything else in Kanto (or so it seemed). The trees, well, they were just as dead as the grass. No leaves on any of them. It was all gone, and that made Kabir a little depressed. He always had such fond memories of this route.

With another little sigh, Kabir began to walk again. He sort of wanted to get away from this route as fast as possible, because he didn't want his childhood memories to be dampened by Sabir and this new horribleness of the route. Abra was sleeping, and Kabir was glad. He didn't want Abra to have to look at this route for too long. He didn't need his Pokemon to be just as sad as he was. Though Abra was young, Kabir knew it wasn't stupid. He would know what was happening to the land, and Kabir actually had to wonder if he felt it in his dreams. He was a psychic type, after all. Weren't they supposed to be all about premonitions and everything?

Shrugging it off, Kabir decided to just amuse himself with some little puzzle he could come up with. It would be better for him to do that than sulk about the route and its destruction anyway. He began to think of Kanto as a wonder. He wondered how all the cities had changed. He also wondered if there would be anything left of them. While he debated about all of these musings, he felt Abra suddenly jolt on his back. Kabir stopped in his tracks, looking around.

"What is it?" Kabir whispered to his Pokemon.

Abra stayed very still for a moment.

"What?" Kabir questioned again. He suddenly had a rather creeped out feeling about him. Kabir didn't like that, and therefore he got a bit spooked as well. Psychic Pokemon could sense things. So what exactly was Abra sensing? "I really wish you could talk, Abra," Kabir hissed to it. "That would make me a bit less freaked out right now."

D...dan...g...

Kabir yelped and about fell over. "What the **** was that?!" he half shouted. Something had totally just peeked inside his head and talked to him, and it was not very cool. "Abra...please tell me that was you?" Kabir whispered, remembering that Abra could do things like that. Sure, they weren't very good at it (hell, they barely had any psychic abilities other than their teleports), but he knew they could still attempt and form a word or two. The only problem was, Kabir had no idea what the hell Abra was trying to tell him. "Shit Abra, you're scaring the stuffing out of me!" Kabir hissed, suddenly having an odd feeling that they were being watched.

Dang...wa...t...

"Dangwat? What the hell does that mean?" Kabir grumbled.

Abra shook his head furiously.

"Alright. Just...we'll be careful. You just go back to sleep."

Abra seemed to like that plan, but apparently the thing that fell out of the sky didn't. Literally though, it fell out of the sky. Kabir ducked just in time, but Abra went careening off of his shoulders and into the dirty ground. Kabir looked around, trying to find whatever had just gave a loud battle cry and attacked, but he couldn't find anything. Kabir felt rather uneasy about that. Abra was getting off the ground, when suddenly there was another cry and a black thing fell out of the sky again. Kabir cursed and leaped for his Pokemon, shielding it with his body as the thing smacked into his back and then took off again.

"The hell?!" Kabir snarled, poking his head up and looking around. It was starting to piss him off, this mysterious Pokemon or thing that kept attacking. "Abra, do you..." Upon looking down, Kabir realized that Abra was gone. Kabir felt a bit of fear trickle into his composure, but he shoved it away and began to look around. Just as he was about to call for his Pokemon, a black object was effectively smacked out of a tree and thudding to the ground. Kabir blinked slowly, looking at the rather prone form that was a Murkrow lying on the ground. He looked up in the tree, and was a bit pleased to find that Abra was sitting there. "How'd you do that?" he whispered, pulling out his new Pokedex.

It took all of a few seconds for Kabir to figure it out. There was a new move by the name of Focus Punch in Abra's arsenal. It seemed like a pretty powerful move too, but of course there was a drawback. Kabir knew that focus punch required (obviously) a good moment of focus for it to work. Kabir had no idea how Abra had managed the focus punch that quickly, but then realized it. He had probably just been all ninja and silent like, teleporting behind Murkrow. Then it must've let it fly.

"Good job," Kabir commented to his Pokemon, feeling a bit more relieved. He sort of hoped this was the "dangwat" Abra was talking about earlier, because he sure as hell didn't think anything else could be it. "I suppose we'll have to focus punch this one out, but don't use it too much. I don't want you to be dog tired like earlier, because then we'll both be pretty screwed. So do some waiting."

Abra nodded, looking at the Murkrow and waiting. Murkrow got up, shook itself, and then looked at Abra with an odd look in its eyes. Kabir had to admit, that thing looked completely and absolutely psychotic. He didn't like that, not one bit. Kabir didn't really think Pokemon were supposed to look like that. Weren't they supposed to be like...even a little good natured? Just a teensy bit? Kabir sighed and shook his head, eyeing the Pokemon wearily. Murkrow was up in a flash after the initial slowness, and took to the sky almost immediately. It swooped down towards Abra, cawing harshly.

"Watch it!" Kabir called carefully.

Abra teleported just as Murkrow's beak appeared in front of him. Abra appeared in a tree, but Murkrow got stuck in the ground. Kabir ordered for a focus punch. Abra teleported back close to Murkrow and, while the Pokemon was struggling, began to draw power to his fist. Murkrow struggled harder and harder, but that tactic didn't seem to be working out. Kabir was glad, for that meant Abra wouldn't have any problems in this fight. He was rather thankful that Abra had learned that move, because he knew otherwise they would be screwed in battles. Kabir wasn't sure how it had learned it, but he wasn't complaining.

Two seconds later Abra slammed his fist into Murkrow's gut. The bird cried out as it was suddenly ripped from the hole embedded in the ground, hitting the dead tree behind it in the side. There was dirt and some mud on Murkrow's beak. The bird shook itself again, only this time it looked a bit more shaken up than the first. Kabir smirked, glad that Abra was making a big impact on the bird that had suddenly decided to attack them with its craziness.

"Nice one, Abra," Kabir praised softly. Abra yawned, but other than that didn't really acknowledge the praise. "Let's just keep at the waiting. It seems like a good strategy. If it goes in with a dark attack, you've gotta get the hell out of there though," Kabir stated. He knew that a dark attack would not bode well with his psychic type at all.

Of course, that' just what Murkrow deemed necessary. The bird got ready to attack again, and flew in at such an alarming speed there was no hope for a teleport from Abra. Kabir cursed under his breath as the bird slammed into Abra in a clear pursuit attack. Abra tried to move away, but the bird stayed on him. Kabir clenched his teeth, knowing that there wasn't a possibility for a teleport until the Murkrow was done with its attack. Soon it ended, but it left Abra in a pretty bad condition. Kabir looked at his Pokemon and the Murkrow, and was pretty quick to figure that the attack had made Abra's health about equal in level to the Murkrow's. He needed to finish this now, before Murkrow got a chance to attack like that again.

"Alright Abra, time to make this count. Start concentrating on a focus punch now, while Murkrow is getting ready for another attack!" Kabir figured this was one of his only shots at this, and it was time to take it.

Abra began to focus, and this was evident from the faint glow of his fist. Murkrow let out a sharp caw, and then swung around in midair to head back towards Abra. It was something of a diving peck attack, and Kabir had a sinking feeling that this move was going to do more damage than the first peck Murkrow had attempted. Suddenly Abra's fist stopped glowing, and it was ready. Abra teleported, landing on Murkrow's back. The bird cried out in surprise as Abra's weight dragged it from the sky, sending them careening towards the barren ground. Kabir watched anxiously. Abra's fist pounded into Murkrow's skull, and then he teleported away before they hit the ground. Murkrow, because of the extra speed from the hit, slammed into the ground.

It didn't get up. Kabir stared at it for a moment, then looked at Abra. He was panting. "Good job, little guy," Kabir commented softly. He stared at the Murkrow a bit longer. "We're almost to Viridian, so let's keep it up."

With that, Kabir picked up his tired Abra and placed it back on his shoulders. Then they set off again, Viridian so close Kabir could almost taste it. Though, it wasn't a good feeling. He felt a large feeling of dread as he headed there, Abra continuing his little ramble about "Dang..." the whole time.

FrostBite: Another good post! I like the bond between the two of them that is developing! I'm surprised you didn't decide to catch murkrow ha! Anyways Abra grew to lvl 9!

Another person dead... another person bloody... why was he laughing?

"Shut up already!" a boy snarled, grabbing a hold of Gil's collar and lifting him up. The boy had an ugly sneer, eyes watering from fear and defeat. "What's wrong with you, you freak!?" he yelled into Gil's face.

"Lithe!" Growlithe snarled, tackling the boy away from his master. The boy fell to the ground with a grunt, the others surrounding him before giving Gil wary looks but felt a little better when they realized that they had their pokemon and it would be five to one. "Groww," Growlithe growled.

Gil watched the exchange before something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. His head snapped toward the exit, only taking in a purple flash as something ran away. His curiosity had been caught, and he no longer cared for these people who hated him and that dead man. All he cared about was surviving... surviving and finding out what that flash of color had been.

What the hell was wrong with him,; not worrying about a dead man?

"Let's go," Gil said suddenly, striding through the small crowd, Growlithe following loyaly by his side. The others stepped aside, unable to hide their disgust. Gil ignored them, eyes darting from place to place, trying to find...

There!

"After it!" he shouted, running at full speed towards the trail he had always been forbidden from entering: Route 1. Confused, Growlithe ran forward as well, having no idea what they were chasing. Something in his mind was screaming Run! Run! and Catch! Catch! but Gil had long ago always questioned the voices he heard. He knew he was an insomaniac, and that led to mental problems. He had no doubt in his mind that it was his imagination screaming at him, not some outside mystical force.

Growlithe skidded to a halt, ears quivering as it heard the beating of wings, finally figuring out was his master had been chasing. It never occurred to the fire dog that he should question how his master knew there was something out there. Instead, he attacked. "Growl!" he howled, startling Gil as he opened his muzzle wide and unleashed a blast of small fire balls.

There was a loud screech that fill the air, and before Gil's eyes a black bird with a large hat appeared to them from the darkness. It had only then reached his mind that the town had been destroyed and that it was so dark it would seem that day and night had switched. Again, what was wrong with him?

"Murkrow!" came the agitated reply from the large bird as it landed on the ground, a haughty look on its face. It spread its wings, glaring at Growlithe before it glanced at Gil, watching as he lowered himself to the ground in that crouching position of his. "Krow," Murkrow crooned, watching the boy carefully, taking in the tilt of his head and dark circles under his eyes.

"Lllithe," Growlithe growled, the sound vibrating with a deadly energy that drew Murkrow's attention back to the battle at hand. Murkrow simply smirked at the agitated dog. "Go!" Growlithe snarled, disliking the cocky look. With a howl, Growlithe opened his muzzle and unleashed another barrage of small fire balls.

"Krow!" Murkrow squawked, flapping his wings hard to avoid the fire attack and gain some altitude. With a cocky cry, Murkrow sailed through the air and flew in an arc around Gil. The boy blinked, watching in awe as the cocky pokemon seemed to just fill him with energy and excitement.

"Growlithe," he said suddenly, pleased to see that his pokemon snapped at attention. The fire pup stood at the ready. "Roar." It was a simple command, but the obedience that came from it was more than simple.

Murkrow was coming in for another arc, but this time instead of showing off, the dark type had his beak poised for what seemed like a Peck attack. Growlithe spread his legs and raised his butt in the air, looking as if he would pounce, but just before the bird pokemon struck, Growlithe opened his moth and unleashed a mighty and loud roar that startled even Gil onto his butt. "Groooow!"

"Krow! Krow!" Murkrow, suffice to say, was startled quite literally in the air. The poor bird was falling all over himself from fright and was trying to busy himself with trying to get away, but Gil wouldn't have any of that.

"Bite," he said, voice more fierce as a grin spread across his features as he pointed at the fleeing pokemon. "Don't let it get away."

Happy with all the orders he was getting, Growlithe bounded towards the low airborn pokemon and easily sank his teeth into a flapping wing. Murkrow shrieked in pain, stumbling to the ground and all but bouncing as Growlithe shook the poor pokemon with all his might. It seemed as if Growlithe had found himself a chew toy. "Gow!" Growlithe mumbled happily through feathers, but that was short lived as Murkrow, with an angry screech, poised his beak and struck. "Grow!" Growlithe yelped, stumbling back with a whine as he rubbed the spot he had been struck with a paw.

"Krow," Murkrow spat, having no intention of running anymore. He flapped his wings and flew at Growlithe, a purpilish energy surrounding his body.

Gil blinked in confusion. "Ember," he ordered quickly, but even has he said the last word, Murkrow had slammed into his pokemon and sent the poor pup skidding. Growlithe whimpered and shook violently while Murkrow cackled and turned to grin at Gil. Gil found himself unable to do anything but smile back. "Bite," he said sweetly. That certainly got rid of Murkrow's grin as it tried to flutter back, but Growlithe, with an angry growl, grabbed a hold of Murkrow's weakened wing and slammed the poor thing to the ground.

"Krow mur!" Murkrow cawed, striking back with Peck. It soon became an all out brawl as Growlithe bit and scratched and Murkrow pecked and scratched back. Gil only watched with curious eyes before looking off to his side, huffing as the blur of color once again escaped his gaze. What he had been chasing was still out there, invisible and in hiding, only visible from the corner of his gaze. He turned back to the battle and pulled out his pokedex. He was curious to know what Murkrow had attacked with.

Astonish, came the robotic reply. A ghostly attack that may shock the foe into flinching.

Gil hummed to himself, watching Growlithe once again slam Murkrow to the ground and grind his paw into the poor pokemon's chest with interest. Growlithe had been stunned, but Murkrow had been to busy strutting about to take advantage of a good opportunity. Despite that, Gil didn't find himself all that mindful.

"Growli!" Growlithe yowled, jumping back as Murkrow mercilessly attacked his body with a Pursuit. "Li, li," he panted, snapping at the retreating tail feathers of Murkrow.

"Growlithe, Ember!" Gil finally shouted.

Joyful at the command, Growlithe was only too eager to attack with his latest, and first, fire attack. With a mighty howl, Growlithe unleashed the barrage of small fire balls at the dark type. "Gro!"

Murkrow, whom had been in the middle of an arc to return back in full force like a boomerang to attack Growlithe, soon found himself on the recieving end of an unending onslaught of fire balls. He screeched loudly, wings fluttering faintly before the attack finally took away the last of his strength. "Krow!" With that loud caw, Murkrow fell to the ground in a heap.

"Bite it," Gil ordered. "Don't let it get away."

Grolwit!" Growlithe barked, clamping his jaws onto the fallen pokemon's body. The pokemon gave one last screech before it went quiet, the last of its will giving in as it lost conciousness. "Lither," Growlithe stated proudly, walking back to his master and sitting on his haunches.

Gil patted the loyal pokemon fondly before finally standing fully. He stared at the fallen pokemon and pulled out a pokeball. He blinked slowly before arching back and tossing the pokeball. It nearly missed, but it didn't, and that's all that mattered.

And now all Gil could do was watch the pokeball shake back and forth, aware of the invisible gaze watching his every move...

Jake yawned as he strolled along the path towards Pallet town. He took his time, trying to enjoy the walk but there wasn't much to enjoy. The influence of the darkness that had fallen upon Kanto left the region in a post apocalypse state. The sky was never blue, always appearing to be gray even at noon when the sun directly over the region. In fact, the sun was never visible. It only made part of the sky a really light grey color compared to the rest, but that was about it.

The trail to pallet wasn't better either. The grass was dead and the trees were naked of their leaves. Even the air was depressing, thick and heavy, the possible cause of the illnesses the people of the region usually suffer. Non-the-less Jake took a deep breath of it. Odd as it was, the air didn't bother him.

"join us…."

"Give in"

"Return to darkness"

"Submit!"

"Drown in the abyss"

Jake stopped in mid stride and glanced around hastily. From the corner of his eyes he could catch glances of something moving behind the trees. Something, not humane. He turned his attention back to the main path and saw a man standing before him, his back turned to the boy. The man was taller than the boy, sporting a black cloak and giving off an immense aura of darkness. From his angle, Jake could tell that the man had his arms crossed and his pose suggested that he was thinking about something. After a few seconds the cloaked man dropped his arms to the side and began to walk in the direction of Pallet Town. He stopped for a second and halfway turned, as though he was looking back at the boy, and then continued to walk on, fading into nothing.

Jake fell to his knees, breathing heavily. Seeing the man again had held him in such a state of shock that he had forgotten to breath and his heart raced wildly. Even after years of seeing that man, Jake had yet to become used to his appearance. Perhaps it was the fact that he could never tell if that man was part of his imagination or actually there.

After a few minutes of recollecting himself, Jake was back on his feet, traveling along the path to Pallet Town. Not far away, he could see the old broken fence on the outer edge of town. From his distance, Jake could see that where he was headed really wasn't a town. In reality, it was the ruins of a once peaceful neighborhood, now reduced to a mainly deserted and broken community. Only the foundation of most houses remained, however there were a few in particular that had part of its wall intact. Just like the rest of the world, the grass was dead and gray and the trees were bare.

The young teen looked around, wondering where he was exactly suppose to go. His eyes wondered around, taking in the slightest moments and his body tensed up, expecting an attack of some sorts. He knew he was suppose to meet Prof. Oak and some other trainers here for what was to be the "beginning of the end for the Dark Brotherhood", but at the moment he felt as though he had been tricked. ' They probably did this to lure out possible rebels. ' He gritted his teeth and turned around, swearing under his breath. ' Should have known, but I better get out quick before they notice… '

"Wha…!" The boy called out as he was suddenly grabbed from behind. A black gloved hand reached over his mouth and prevented him from making any more noise. Jake struggled against the person's grip as they proceeded to drag him in the direction of Prof. Oak's old lab and a voice whispered into his ear.

"Shhh, don't fight it. Soon you'll be engulfed into the darkness and everything will be alright…" Jake's eyes widen and he bit down on the person's hand causing them to loosen their grip. He took the opportunity to elbow the person in the gut and take off. He didn't get far when he was tackled by another dark cloaked person and writhed on the ground screaming for help.

"Quiet! You don't want to alert those Clan….Dark Brotherhood people do you?!"

Jake blinked and turned to see a man in a white coat holding him on the ground. He looked past that man to see another one tending to his stomach as he approached the two. Jake glanced between the two, his heart racing and lost consciousness.
"Hey, hey! Wake up!"

Jake groaned as his head drifted to the side. There was another yell telling him to wake up and slowly he opened his eyes. As his mind became adjusted to the lightning, he saw something dark sitting in front of him, waving. Eventually as his vision came into focus it disappeared and all he saw was an empty desk. He blinked and looked around to see a few other kids around his age sitting in chairs next to him. All of them looked really impatient for some reason, but one of them was giving him a curious look.

"Hey, you ok. You've been out for a while now." Jake gave the kid a weak smile and slowly nodded his head still confused about his surroundings. "Where are we?"

"In Prof. Oak's underground lab." Another trainer said and as if it was a cue, the Prof himself walked into the room. The old man was dressed simply in a white shirt and light brown pants under his white lab coat. He carried with him a tray of pokemon balls and some other device. Without a word he handed the trainers a specific poke ball, then five more and some device that Jake had yet to figure out until he actually got one. It was a pokedex. He glanced around the room at the other trainers, watching as they silently expected the things the Prof. had given them until he started to speak. Jake turned his attention to the old man as he approached a map of Kanto.

"Today is a very important day for you young trainers, although I wish this day would have come under different circumstances." He paused for a moment, looking over all the trainers. Jake glanced down at the pokemon in his hand and played around with it as he did. He wished the circumstances had been different as well. ' A trainers' journey with pokemon is supposed to be an eventful experience, filled with good times and bad that you'll remember for the rest of your life. But not us, we're not gonna have it easy. '

"You're here today to begin your quest to save Kanto from the control of the Dark Brotherhood, but you must listen to this warning, once the leader of the group knows of your existence, he will try to persuade you to join his cause. If you deny him then he will have you and your pokemon executed. At your current state you would stand no match against him, he is ruthless and his pokemon are all corrupt and full of evil; he will most likely come after you immediately while you are weak so you do not get to strong." Jake sighed and turned his head to the side. He watched as a shadow moved in the corner of the room and his eyes widen just a bit. Prof. Oak caught him doing this and looked in the same direction but found that there was nothing there. He ignored it and pointed at the map in front of him.

That is all so take care young trainers, and let light lead you all." With that the old man sat in his seat shaking and slowly took a sip of his coffee almost dropping his cup in the process.

" Light creates shadows, in the end you'll be consumed by darkness… "

Jake quickly rose to his feet, his eyes surveying the room. The other trainers gave him a weird look as they too got up, only to start heading for the door. Prof. Oak looked at the teen with a concern looked and asked him:

"Is there something wr…" Before he could finish the whole room started to tremble causing books to fall from shelve and throwing everything else into disarray. Oak's coffee spilled over his coat and he jumped up. He looked at the trainers with a stern expression on his face, but Jake was able to see the immense fear behind the Prof.'s glare.

"Run!"

Jake took a step back, half not wanting to leave but at the same time wanting to run. Finally after a second more of looking at the Prof. He turned to headed towards the exit with the others trainers. They were only a few meters away when Jake stopped and searched for the poke ball that he was given. He didn't know why, but he felt a presence similar to what he had felt either that day.

"Going somewhere?" Jake narrowed his eyebrows as a voice filled the room and a large swirling vortex appeared on the ground. The other trainers stopped and reached for their pokeballs as well when six cloaked figures rose from the ground. Upon seeing them, Jake's body froze with terror and his pokeball fell from his hand and landed on the ground. In a burst of light a small round pokemon that resembled a mouse emerged from the ball. It was blue in color and round like a bouncing ball with short arms and two large circular ears. Its stomach was white and it had a jagged tail with a small blue 'bubble' on the end of it. The small pokemon looked around curiously before setting eyes upon Jake and happily calling out to him.

"Marill…marill!" The small blue pokemon hopped over to its trainer and grabbed onto his leg. All the while Jake was still in shock, his eyes set upon the man that had approached him.

"Haha, scared are ya! Good, then you're a smart one, but don't worry. I'll be putting you out of your miserable existence soon!" The man laughed tossing up a pokeball. There was a bright flash of light and something gathered in the air. Marill turned to face the new threat, putting on a tough act. It faced off against a rather large black ball that possessed two large eyes and was surrounded in a purple haze of sorts.

"Well kid, it's time for you and you pathetic pokemon to die! Gastly, lick!" The ghost pokemon cried in delight and floated towards Jake and Marill, ready to attack.

" Fear and drown or accept and control…"

"Marill! Use defense curl and roll to the left!" The cloaked man looked at Jake, who now stood in a stance of sorts, fire burning in his eyes. He was taken back at the sudden interest of battle by the kid, but none-the-less he had Gastly continue its attack. "It seems like you're finally awake. Good, this should be a little fun then!"

Jake didn't pay the man any attention, completely absorbed in the battle. Gastly had now shot its tongue at Marill while curled up into a ball and rolled away, narrowing dodging the attack. Jake turned his attention to Gastly. "Now tackle!"

Marill unrolled herself, using her tail to propel her toward the Gastly as she did. Jake smirked, knowing that the attack was sure to hit, but as Marill fazed through Gastly's body, his smirk faded. The cloaked man laughed. "Did you honestly think that a ghost type would be affected by an attack as tackle? Ha, kid you've a lot to learn! Gastly, lick!"

Jake swore under his breath, calling out for Marill to use defense curl again. She did so, grabbing her tail and rolling herself into a ball. The Gastly's attack collided right after, sending the small blue mouse flying off toward her trainer. He yelled out a little, catching her and setting her on the ground, watching the cloaked man and the Gastly who was floating freely around him. 'I forgot that it was a ghost type pokemon. But I'm sure that this pokemon doesn't have any other moves. So how are we supposed to beat them? '

Watching them he saw something odd. Something in the air was moving and it was affecting the purple haze that was surrounding the black ball that was Gastly's body. ' The smoke around that thing is moving to its left, my right. So whatever is affecting it must be to…my right! ' Jake glanced over to the part of the building to his right. There wasn't anything interesting in particular, just a bunch of fallen books, a fan, and a turned over bookshelf, the map of Kanto and a vent. A vent! ' So the air is messing with its body. But how can we use that to get rid of it? He looked around and then something popped into his head and he whispered something into the Marill's ear.

"What? Do you still think you can possibly win against us? Ha, it's hopeless kid. Your Marill trying to beat my Gastly at its level is like a baby trying to murder an adult. It's futile!" Jake smirked and tapped the ground. As soon as he did he ran off to his right and Marill charge the Gastly. The man scowled and commanded the Gastly use hypnosis. Marill gave a cry and rolled to the right, once again avoiding the Gastly's attack. She stood and stuck her tongue out at the Gastly and ran off after Jake. Angered, the Gastly followed, but found it a bit difficult as the air from the vent was turned up.

"What are you doing!? Stop floating around and get rid of that freakin' mouse!" The man stomped his foot and the Gastly struggled harder against the air current, closing in on the Marill as she waved her tail back and forth by the vent, taunting the Gastly. Fueled by more anger the Gastly picked up its pace and closed the distance between them and just as he it was about to launch a lick attack it found itself stuck in the air.

"Gotcha!" The Gastly turned to see Jake standing behind it with the fan. It cried in displeasure and tried to move, but the air pressure from both the vent and the fan kept it immobilized. The cloaked man yet and rushed over towards Jake, but quickly stopped when the Marill jumped in front of him, ready to defend her trainer. The man swore and recalled the ghost pokemon. Jake sighed in relief, but his victory was cut short as the man pulled out another ball and summoned a new pokemon.

This one was much bigger than the Gastly and had a sort of humanoid body. However it had the same menacing eyes and a large grin on its face. Jake stared at the pokemon in disbelief knowing now that they were certainly doomed. The pokemon in front of him he recognized to be the fully evolved form of Gastly, Gengar. ' Maybe I should have went to Johto with Vince. I'm pretty sure he's not facing off against some killer organization right now. In fact, I bet he's relaxing in the sun while sipping on strawberry lemonade. Lucky… '

Jake bent down on the ground, setting his hand on top of Marill's head and began to whisper something in her ear. However, he stopped in midsentence when he heard clapping coming from behind him. The boy whipped around to come face to face with a man dressed all in black sitting on Prof. Oak's desk. The Prof. himself was being bonded down to the ground by shadows that seem to have appeared out of nowhere.

Jake kept his eye on this new man in black. Something about him was off and he struck fear in the boy. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, each pounding wrecking his body into a shiver of sorts. He gripped his chest, his heartbeat irregular and started to breathe heavily. For a second he believed it was the man he kept 'seeing' but after a few moments he noticed that there was actually something different about this man standing in front of him now. The feeling of sorrow was strong around him, but it wasn't so overwhelming that it would even make the body stop involuntary actions, like that of the man Jake himself kept seeing. However, this man was dangerous and possessed a greater level of darkness than the guy he had just fought.

"That is enough, leave us now." His emotionless voice left no room for opposition and just as quickly as the other trainers had appeared, they vanished into the shadows. The man stood up and removed his hood while saying, "Now, where were we? Ah, yes, I would like to introduce myself." With his hood off Jake found the man before to be…well words couldn't describe well the man in front of him. Long spiky black hair flowed from the man's head and his eyes were pure white, void of any emotion. "My name is Beo. It is a pleasure to meet you all, but if you could excuse me for a second, I have some matters to attend to before we continue." He knelt down beside the Prof. taking out a blood stained dagger as he did so.

"Now, good ol' Oak, are there any last words for Kanto's last breath of life?" Jake felt the blood in his veins slow and become thick. Suddenly he felt very cold and even though his mind screamed for him to move his body wouldn't budge. The shadow that was held over the Prof.'s mouth loosens its grip and slipped away.

" Don't interfere… "

"You scum! Zypher will defeat you and these trainers," He struggle to point over towards the small group of teens. "These trainers will help aid in your destruction!" A sick grin spread across Beo's face as the shadows once again clamped over Oak's mouth. He started to laugh hysterically as he brought the dagger up in the air. ' Darn it, move, MOVE! I…I can't allow this to happen! '

"You fool! I've already won and this very dagger will be the one I use to kill Zypher!" Beo whispered in a harsh tone, loud enough for the Prof. and the trainers to hear. With that said, he stabbed the dagger into Prof. Oak's chest, killing the old man within seconds. Jake's blood ran cold and he felt his knees give out bringing him closer to the ground. He stared as Beo licked the blood off of the dagger and turned to look at the trainers.

"Now, now, there's no reason to be frighten. I've only come to you all to introduce myself and nothing more. You see, it is not yet your time to die, no, I plan on making you all suffer first and when you finally give in to the darkness, I'll come to you again." He snapped his fingers and just like that he was gone leaving behind nothing but Prof. Oak's dead body lying on the ground before his desk.

Still frozen in his position on the ground, Jake's eyes shifted up to the map of Kanto. However what he saw wasn't a normal map. The map now resembled a laughing face made of shadows with white eyes and as he watched the mouth of it move a psychotic laugh filled his ears. After a few seconds he began to laugh along with it, uncontrollably.

....Ping!

Gil blinked as he slowly reached for the unmoving pokeball. He held it loosely and twirled it in his hand, feeling a little in awe. He turned to Growlithe. "Good job," he told the fire pup, but his eyes strayed to the darkness that surrounded them. He caught a flash of glistening white and a strange purple color before the being he felt had been watching him was gone.

"Grow!" Growlithe barked proudly, giving the pokeball a curious sniff.

"Let's go," Gil said, still playing with Murkrow's pokeball in his hand. He glanced up at the sky, taking in the seemingly endless abyss before his eyes narrowed and a ravage snarl escaped his throat. There! Flying directly above them was another of those damn ghosts!
[PokeCommunity.com] The Path to Light and Darkness: Rated PG 17

Growlithe stood erect, muzzle aimed at the sky. Confusing his master's anger with the previous ghost, Growlithe fired an Ember. "Growl!"

The Gastly, whom had simply been flying about, minding its own business, hissed in pain. With a murderous glare, Gastly turned his white eyes down towards Gil and his attacking fire dog. He opened his mouth wide, showing off a gaping mouth that seemed to fill the air with a horrid stench. "Gaaa!" With that haunting cry, the enraged ghost charged not at Growlithe, but at Gil.

Growlithe howled in fury. Nobody hurt his master! "Lithe growl!" Fire erupted everywhere, and even Gil himself had to roll away from being scorched. He watch with wide, excited eyes as the ghost flew about in a frenzy, gas body becoming a light. His grin became absolutely demonic as more Gastly appeared at the call of their friend's cry, but they too had to be wary of the incoming fire.

Gil tilted his head and roared with laughter. "That's it! Burn them, kill them, don't let any escape!" With another bout of insane laughter, Gil released a shaky Murkrow. "Kill them!" he snapped at the bird, howling with laughter.

Murkrow gave a few experimental flaps, still tired and worn out from his own battle, but the insanity and shadow filled aura that was surrounding him was giving him strength. There was something about this human that just attracted his dark type self. "Krow!" Murkrow cawed, finally becoming airborne. With a screech, Murkrow began to become enflamed in a blue energy. "Murkow!"

Growlithe finally closed his muzzle long enough to stop his barrage of embers so that his teammate could attack without being worried about being hit by his own partner. However, that didn't mean that Growlithe was just going to sit around. With an energetic bark, Growlithe soared through the air, startling several of the Gastly and sank his fangs into one.

Gil was still laughing insanely, tears beginning to fall as he could no longer contain his turmoil. Damn these ghosts. He hated them, and he knew they hated him. He had to kill them, he just had to. Gil raised his head to watch the ghost pokemon fall and wither away thanks to the wind, their gassy bodies no longer stable. Growlithe and Murkrow attacked with a viciousness that made Gil smile fondly.

"Kill them all," he whispered, finally shutting his eyes to the carnage and letting out a roar of anguish. He sank to the ground, the darkness feeling oh so consuming. The circles around his eyes were more pronounced as he clenched them shut and dug a fist into his hair as he fought with his inner demons and tried with all his might to ignore their sinful whispers.

"Krrow," a voice crooned into his ear. Tentatively, Gil peaked a single eye open and noticed Murkrow sitting on his shoulder, smirking and cooing into his ear.

"Lithe," Growlithe said gruffly, licking his hand.

Gil finally opened his other eye and stared at the fallen Gastly, another grin forming as he noticed their burned bodies. He gave a dark chuckle. Look how messed up you are, he felt his mind saying, and Gil wholeheartedly agreed.

Lifting his hands, Gil pet his two pokemon, wondering what to do now. He had signed up for this with the promise of helping some team defeat this darkness, but he didn't know anything about these two teams. As pitiful as he might believe it to be, Gil would rather wallow in self pity for a while, but with Murkrow and Growlithe nudging at him to get up and keep going, Gil would do so, but there was still one question.

Where would he go?

WolfWhispers: Sweet post! I'm enjoying Gil's character ha and his development over the course of the RP will be most intriguing. I can tell you this Beo is going to have playing with him haha.. Anyways Growlithe grew to lvl 8! Murkrow grew to lvl 7!

Cain had simply no idea what to do. She just sat there, mind empty and just staring into nothingness. What now? Go home? No they would surely find her, and home was a prison on its own anyway. Go out and risk whatever was out there? And then what? Try and find this Clan of Hope, but that might be a short-cut to death. But was it really worth doing nothing to save her own butt?

Just then Cain felt something pushing against her arm. Misdreavous was pushing at her, impatient to get going. She chimed softly and looked at Cain with big red eyes of expectations. Cain sighed, getting herself back together. Of course she had to try and help this, or else all the deaths over the years would be for nothing. Oak's death would be for nothing, but he was just one in millions. If she could help than she would.

She slowly stood up, which was met with a happy chime from Misdreavous. "I suppose we had better get going then," Cain proposed and the ghost liked that proposition. With that she turned her back on the corpse, crossing herself one more time, this time for her own sake, and walked toward the exit.

Exiting the lab was blissful. Well, blissful for one second. Cain closed her eyes and took a deep breath of fresh air, yearning it after being in the lab. There had been a black cloud of death around it, and the thin smell of a new corpse on its way to turning bad. Just as she opened her eyes she gasped, once again taking in a gulp of air. Pallet Town was gone, entirely destroyed. Cain took a few breaths, steadying herself. She heard no screams of children, please for help or sobs of suffering people. That meant one thing, there was no one left to call for help or cry for a loved one.

She started shaking but steadied herself. It only strengthened her resolve to end this rule of terror. "If he continues like this Beo won't have a region to rule anymore," Cain said bitterly toward Misdreavous, who chimed sadly at the happenings. But she quickly started nudging Cain again to get going. "You're right," Cain told her. "It won't do to linger here, we have to get to this Zypher." Cain swallowed and with that repressed her panic and her sadness. It was going to boil up again, that was certain, but for now she tucked it away. Another liter to the bucket that was her head.

Route 1 was as it had always been. Dark, gloomy, depressing. Cain could scarcely remember when it had been this paradise of beauty, but then again, she couldn't even remember the feeling of sun on her skin. How was she going to remember scenery from when scenery didn't matter? Only when scenery died did people pay attention to it, as it always was.

"Come on Misdreavous!" Cain called out impatiently. Misdreavous was too busy looking at things to hurry up, and Cain wanted to get the hell out of this place. There was darkness everywhere, so much that sometimes she couldn't even see in the distance. Cain hated darkness, it was creeping her out already. Moreover, she had the feeling of being watched. A very creepy feeling of being watched.

As she walked through the path she kept checking over her shoulder. The worst part was that it was all dark and she swore she saw something glinting in the darkness. "I'm imagining things," Cain whispered, trying to convince herself. She still had that creepy feeling and it wasn't leaving her.

She heard something and whirled around, only to find something shiny in the darkness again. But with a blink it was gone again. "Aaaargh!" It was so frustrating! "Misdreavous, let's get going," she beckoned the ghost who obediently followed her father through the route. Just then she saw a glint somewhere ahead of her. "Misdreavous, stop!" She commanded and stood still, looking at the glint and forcing herself not to blink again.

"Who are you and why are you following me?" She demanded. No answer."Come out!" Cain demanded but nothing moved. Then, just as quickly as it had come, the glint disappeared. Cain picked up a stick and threw it as hard as she could toward the spot she had been. "Stop following me!" She yelled, but the glint was nowhere to be seen.

She walked further but she still had the watched feeling. That person was still watching her, she was certain of it. Her intuition didn't often lie. She took a rock in her hand casually and kept walking as if nothing was going on. Just as she saw the glint again she threw the rock in the direction. It never hit a mark however, and the glint stayed there. "Misdreavous, use Psybeam!" Cain ordered and Misdreavous was quick to comply. Then there was finally a cry of pain, but not a human one.

Cain ran toward the sound and found something she hadn't been expecting. A Pokémon. The thing had huge diamond eyes and seemed to carry emotion even though they were simply jewels. It looked at her with a look of confusion and innocence. It was almost cute. Just staring at her, sitting on its behind, arms between his legs and legs out to the side. It was very cute. Misdreavous chimed at the Sableye, and the Sableye chimed back, they were already bonding.

And it was so cute…

"Misdreavous, prepare for battle," Cain muttered and Midreavous quickly returned to her side. The Sableye looked so dim-witted, it shouldn't be that much of a challenge. "Use psybeam!" She ordered and Misdreavous let out a strong pulse of blue rings, each hitting Sableye dead-on. It already looked to be working, Suddenly Sabelye's gem turned almost black and a dark aura surrounded its claw as it scratched Misdreavous, who cried out. Nightshade, as Cain recognized it.

"Quick, Misdreavous, use Spite!" She ordered and dark sparks flew from Misdreavous to Sableye. Just then, as if it knew that the Nightshade move had been cursed, there came a curious glint in his eyes as he used a scratch attack on Misdreavous with the help of a Foresight. Misdreavous cried out, the norma-move hurt her like none other. This Sableye proved to be a better battler than she had thought.

"Misdreavous, let's take it down with another psybeam!" Misdreavous let out more blue rings, not as strong as the last attack this time. Sableye crieed out again as they hit, it didn't seem to be aware when to dodge and when not. I'll help it with that, Cain thought, already looking forward to the capture. Just then more sparks were erupting from Sableye as he used another Night shade attack on Misdreavous. Both of them cried in pain as it hit and the Sableye looked a lot weaker than before.

"Misdreavous, I want you to dodge whenever he tries to scratch but let yourself get hit when he uses Nightshade, look for that glint in its eyes!" Cain ordered. Sableye seemed to get more damage from the move than Misdreavous did. Misdreavous listened very well and dodged the other ghost's moves whenever she saw the glint in its eyes. Similarly when darkness started to show she stayed put, letting the move sap way his health.

"Okay, we've got him now Misdreavous, use psybeam!" Misdreavous released another set of rings, all of which hit Sableye straight on. It collapsed and Cain threw her Pokéball. But she wasn't entirely happy, there was something still bothering her, something she had noticed just now. Even though she had Sableye right in front of her, she still felt like she was being watched…

Swan: Good post! The fact that Cain hates darkness is going to make this RP very fun ha... Cain caught a lvl 6 female sableye!

Chapter 2: Wheres the hope?

"...." Grecko's blanked face stared swiftly into the darkness that was Kanto. "So...if Oak is dead...do we stand a chance.." he looked down at his right hand which grasped his new Cubone's pokeball. "Well Cubone, i'm sorry you got involved in this also...but were a team now and we have to do something amazing to pull this off...but people and pokemon can do anything as long as they work together...that's what my father always said" he stared back off into the distance and began his trek further into Kanto.

As Grecko reached the outskirts of Pallet he expected to see route 1, but instead all he saw was a run down path of darkness and death. "Grrrr...this pisses me off!" he screamed as he stepped onto the route.

"weeee!" A faint sound could be heard from the distance. "What is that?" Grecko wondered as he ran closer to it. "WEEEEE DEEL!" a small bug pokemon cried as a Murkrow and an Ekans were attacking it.

"Ahh I've got to help it!" Grecko cried as he sent out Cubone. "BOONE!" Cubone barked as it emerged from the ball. "Cubone use your bone clube to get those pokemon away from that Weedle!"! He commanded his new partner.

"CUU!" the pokemon roared as it sent it's bonemerang flying towards the Murkrow. "Weedle duck!" Grecko yelled out to the weakened pokemon. "Wee.."The pokemon faintly whispered as it laid on the ground. "MUR?" "EKKANNS!" the two pokemon confusingly stated as the bone smacked them both in the face thrusting them away from Weedle.

"Weedle are you ok?" Grecko asked as he ran over and picked it up. "Wee" the Weedly nodded tiredly. "Well that..." Grecko began before the Murkrow flew over and grabbed the Weedle.

"Ah Weedle no! Cubone use Bone Club!" Grecko hurridley yelled out. Cubone threw the club at the Murkrow but the Ekans jumped in front and took the hit. "Grrr stupid Ekans! Pokeball go!" Grecko angrily shouted as he thought up the best solution to stop the Ekans. The pokeball hit the unconcious Ekans and began to shake.

"Come on Cubone we gotta save Weedle!" the boy shouted as they ran off down the route, leaving the pokeball still shaking.

"Ah I see them!" Grecko said to Cubone as he pointed at the distant Murkrow and Weedle. "Do you think your bone club can reach them from here?" he asked the pokemon as they continued to run.

"CU Cu!" it said as it shook it's head sideways. "Damn..."Grecko said until he thought up an idea. "Cubone jump into my arms!" he said as the pokemon obeyed and leaped into his arms. Grecko continued to run as he explained the plan to Cubone.

"Ok so i'm going to throw you and your going to use your Bone Club while your higher up!" Cubone shook it's head in agreement and Grecko wound up and threw the pokemon as high as he could.

"MURR!" the bird pokemon worridley cried as it saw Cubone getting closer. "CUUUUBONE!" it said as it released the bone. The bone made contact with the Murkrow causing it to fall unconcious and drop Weedle.

"AHHH Weedle I got you!" Grecko said as he sprinted over and dove to catch Weedle. "Wee" the Weedle said in appreciation. "Glad to see your ok!" Grecko softly said to the Weedle. "Cu" Cubone happily agreed.

"Your kind of beat up right now Weedle...so would you like to come with us? I promise not to hurt you, plus it has to be alot better then being out here?" Grecko smiled hoping the bug pokemon would say yes.

"WEEDLE!" it happily chanted to Grecko. "Alright! well then here get inside this pokeball, you'll feel much better." he said as the Weedle clicked the button and was zapped inside.

"Well Cubone good job today, i'm proud of you. In a way I see this as a victory for us and the clan of hope. Just think of Weedle as Kanto, and Ekans and Murkrow as the Dark Brotherhood. We beat up on Ekans and Murkrow and helped Weedle, so therefore we can help Kanto" Grecko finished up his speech as he finally realized, maybe there is hope.

Chapter 2 part 2: An angry Ekans, is a challenge indeed!

"Ding" the ball the Weedle had willingly put it self into clicked, assuring that Weedle now belonged to Grecko. "Haha alright we got Weedle!" Grecko said smilingly to his new friend Cubone. "Bone!" Cubone happily shouted.

The two decided to set up camp where they had captured Weedle. "Weedle come on out!" Grecko said as he rolled the ball on the ground. "Bzzzt, Wee!" Weedle cried after being released from the ball.

"How are you feeling Weedle?" Grecko asked the bug pokemon. "Dle... Dle.." it weakly said. "Hmm well here I have this potion my father gave me a long time." Grecko said as he pulled the potion from the bag. "Now just hold still" he told Weedle as he sprayed the potion on it.

"Weee!" it cried as the potion burned a bit but begin to heal. Weedle hoped off Grecko's lap and crawled over to Cubone, apparantly feeling better. "CUBONE!" Cubone laughed as the two began to play together.

"Ha I like how there still able to play even when the world is so dark and desolate. Pokemon are something special that's for sure." Grecko said to himself as he watched the two play.

After about ten minutes Grecko and the gang decided to call it a day, and so they began to fall asleep. "The darkness feeds on fear, the darkness feeds on the innocent, darkness feeds on the hopeless!" a faint sound was heard from the shadows. "Whose there!" Grecko yelled out into the pure darkness that surrounded him.

But there was know answer. "Hello!" Grecko continued to shout out. "HUH!" he yelped as he saw the darkness consuming his body. "No, stop, ah, somebody!" he screamed until the darkness completely engulfed him.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Grecko snapped out of his dream, awaking beside the campfire. "Cu?" Cubone said as it woke up from Grecko shouting. "Sorry it was a bad dream..." he said as he laid back down and dozed off.

The next morning Grecko and the gang ate breakfast but couldn't help but feel as if someone was watching them. "Well guys I guess we should be going." Grecko began as he unclipped the two pokemon's pokeballs. "EKANS!" a snake like creature hissed as it jumped out of the bushes at Grecko.

"CUBONE!" Cubone quickly reacted by throwing it's bone club. The Bone club hit the Ekans thrusting it away from Grecko. "Woah it's the Ekans from earlier! I guess it wants revenge!" Grecko angrily roared as he stared down the Ekans.

"Cubone you ready for a battle?" he asked his starter. "Cu.." Cubone started before getting interupted by Weedle. "Weedle you want to battle the Ekans? Are you sure?" Grecko asked the bug pokemon. "DLE DLE!" Weedle shouted as it crawled in front of the Ekans.

"Alright I guess will do it your way!" Grecko happily said as the Ekans stood up, overbearing the small Weedle. "Weedle use String Shot!" Grecko commanded the bug.

"Ekans!" Ekans hissed as it used leer on Weedle. "Weedle!" it muttered as the leer attack blinded it and stopped it from using String Shot. Ekans quickly used this moment to use Wrap on Weedle.

"WEEEE WEEEDDDLLLE!" Weedle cried in pain as Ekans squeezed harder and harder. "Grrr Weedle jab your poison needle into Ekans side!" Grecko quickly shouted out.

"EK EK EKAAAANSS!" the snake pokemon whimpered as Weedle thrusted it's needle into it's side. This caused the Ekans to release it's grip and let Weedle out.

"Ok Weedle let's wrap this battle up! Use String Shot!" Grecko bravely called out. "WEEE!" Weedle shout as it sprayed strings that quickly wraped up the Ekans and rendered it emobilized.

"Alright! Last time I threw a pokeball I wasn't trying to catch you. But this time Ekans...well this time your mine!" Grecko hollered as he chucked a pokeball at the strung up Ekans.

"BZZZT! ding ding ding.." the Pokeball drew in the Ekans and began to shake. "Great battle Weedle! You did great and you really showed that Ekans!" Grecko congratulated his first capture. "Weedle!" Weedle happily cried knowing it's trainer cared.

"As Grecko stared down at the shaking pokeball, he wondered if it was the Ekans he felt watching him...or something else..."

Tim0789: Good post! Tim caught a lvl 6 female ekans! Weedle grew to lvl 7 weedle wants to evolve will you allow it?

Chapter 2: To Survive, Part 1

After a few minutes of laughing, Jake finally calmed down and looked over at the dead corpse that was once known as the great Prof. Oak. Warmth covered his ice cold hands and he glanced down to see that they were covered with blood. His mouth twitched for a second before he returned his gaze back to the Prof. The corpse was looking at him with a crooked smile, hands reaching out as if it were trying to touch him.

" See what you did….the is the fate of light…"

Jake shook his head and peered down at his hands again. The blood was gone and so was the warmth feeling. Jake sighed in relief, checking on Oak's body to see that it hadn't really moved since the man's death and stood up, only to be brought back to his knees. The boy began to panic once again and looked at the ground. He was kneeling in a swirling vortex of darkness, slowly but surely dragging him down. He yelled out, struggling to rise to his feet, but shadows lashed up from the vortex and found their way around his hands and over his mouth, smuggling his screams.

"Marill! Marill, marill!' The boy looked at the small blue mouse that was calling out to him and tried to reach for her. She called again and a large shadow rose from the ground and engulfed both trainer and pokemon into complete darkness.

"Marill?"

Jake slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He was alone in the Prof.'s underground lab. His Marill was standing in front of him, curiously watching him with big concern eyes. He gave her a weak smile and petted the blue mouse on the head before rising to his feet. The other trainers had left, leaving only him, Marill and the already horrid smelling body of Prof. Oak. The boy coughed, glancing at the body before swiftly picking Marill up and heading off for the exit. He didn't want to stay in the room any longer, it would just remind him of how he had just got caught up in some sick game and he hated it. Yet, he was still fightened, knowing that any time that man, Beo, could appear and kill him. He shook his head trying to forget about it.

He instead turned his attention down to the small blue pokemon who didn't seem very pleased with traveling along in his arms. There was a very blunt look of displeasure on her face and her cheeks were a bit red in aggravation as she struggled to get out of her trainer's iron grip. The boy chuckled and loosened his grip on the mouse pokemon. As soon as he did, she took the opportunity to spring from his arms and to his right shoulder, where she gave a cheerful cry.

"Well, aren't you a cheery one." He flashed a grin at the pokemon and continued to walk forward, but quickly frowned as he brought his hand to his chin. "And I suppose you are stuck with me now and it wouldn't be good to leave you along in the place as it is now. So then, first things first." He stopped again and set the Marill on the ground and crouched in front of her.

"I'm Jake, and I'll…um," He scratched the back his head, thinking of what to say. "I'll be your trainer from now on." Now rubbing the back of his head, and quickly brought his hand back and shook his head. "No, not your trainer! From now on, we're gonna be partners, alright!" Marill squeled in delight and shook his outreached hand. The boy couldn't help but laugh at the sight of the Marill's giddiness. "And I suppose you're gonna need a name too…so how about Macey?" 'God, I'm awful at giving people names…' The Marill looked up at him and then down at the ground, before firmly nodding. He smiled.

"Alright then, Macey it is." With that all settle, Jake lowered his arm down and Macey quickly climbed up to her spot on his shoulder and they resumed their way out of the lab.

Emerging from the secret door to the underground lab, Jake was met with a much different scene of Pallet Town than when he had arrived not too long ago. Even in the night-timish noon of the day, he could perfectly see changes what happened as a result of the earthquake. The foundations of buildings that were actually left stand were reduced to nothing but a pile of rubble. The remains of Prof. Oak's lab had collapsed and by the miracle of something, hadn't blocked the exit to late Prof's underground lab.

Jake glanced up neutrally at the sky and sighed a little. There was a barely noticeable light spot in the clouds that covered the town, in which he guess to be the sun. It had been some two years since anyone in the Kanto region had seen a speck of sunlight and the affect that is had on land was quite evident. It was depressing, as sunshine was something that would be good at the moment, that and a fresh breath of good clean air that was thick and heavy and almost chocked the people who breathed it. Not that it affect Jake much, he seemed to be used to it, but he could tell that Macey wasn't used to the air. She had started to take deeper breaths in hope of catching something good and Jake only smiled silently to himself as her small round mouse-like body grew in size as she took in more air.

It was sad to see it happen but it was only the harsh way of life in Kanto now-a-days. The best thing one would do about it was to suck it up and move on with life.

"Alright…and we're off."

The world was no longer nice and most of the people who lived in it today had adapted into the new way of life. Of self preservation and only doing things for one's self interest and greed. Those who didn't adapt to this or couldn't grasp the concept of it were left behind to eventually die off or were lucky enough to escape to the other regions of the world, unaffected by darkness. Those remaining in Kanto had become corrupt or changed in character, but it was for the best, for it would be those people who would stand a chance at bring back the Kanto they once knew.

"Give up that which makes you weak…leave the light"

Kerjo: Awesome post! I can already tell how Jakes character is developing due to having Macey ha. Anyway I also liked how you describe the remaining population of Kanto at the end, you basically hit the nail on the head my friend!

Chapter 3
Rest, Relaxation, and A Man Named Tai

POST 1

Virdian city a few years ago used to be the main stop for trainers on there journey, to receive there final gym badge. Now it's nothing more then a desolate almost completely uninhabited town. As you walk through out the run down town, you see several buildings that are ether rubble, or barely standing, you start to wonder to yourself how one person could do this much damage on his own. Emotions start to flow through your body, some of you will feel saddened and have a feeling of sincere hope that you could be the one to lift this dark veil from Kanto, while a few others may not really care about the darkness and what it's done, all you really care about is becoming a tough trainer no matter what you have to do. You finally notice a building that looks old on the outside but it is still firmly standing, and you decide to check it out. As you enter the building you look around to notice, other trainers gathering in front of a machine, and it's here that you find you can heal your pokemon like a pokemon center used to do. It seems that someone has built a pokemon center disguised as an old run down building in hopes that trainers would be able to hide out here and heal there pokemon.

What to do in Part 1:

  • Describe your surroundings, feelings etc.
  • Find an item (clear that item with me first)
  • Check out the old run down house that turns out to be a pokemon center.
  • Even enjoy a quick battle with one of the trainers inside. (But remember if there are other trainers in there probably worn down, tired, and out of hope)
Post 2
You just finish healing up and resting at the hidden pokemon center in Viridian City when you realize you should probably make your way over to the old Viridian Gym and meet with Zypher. (You all head over at different times of the day, depending on when you want to) As you head out of the building that was beautiful on the inside, but once you step outside you remember how grim the world is once again.

"Hey Kid" a voice says from behind you as swiftly turn around to see an older man just in what appeared to be at one time a white cloak but was now torn and worn down. The man stands at about 5'10, with short black hair. Although he seems friendly he has an eerie smile about him.

"The names Tay Fayling, I'm here to take you to the clan of hopes base" he says still smiling and for a moment you wonder weather you should trust him or not, but finally you realize you don't really have an option.

After awhile of walking you start to feel as if you're heading in the completely wrong direction as it starts to get pitch black around you, you were now standing in darkness. You look next to you only to realize that Tai is no longer with you. Suddenly a shadow materializes in front of you, it's a Dark Brotherhood member.

Trainers pokemon:

After you defeat him the man just starts to laugh as he vanishes, then reappers behind you.

"Your so lucky Beo doesn't want you brats dead yet, he says your all pawns in some game but honestly I could have killed you right now if I wanted" the trainer says as he puts a knife to your neck and slowly drags it across. You close your eyes expecting the worst but once you open them you notice your standing right outside what used to be Viridian Gym.

"There you are!" Tai screams running next to you. "You just vanished all of sudden it worried me, Zypher would not be happy if I let you die, but this is where we separate paths my friend I must go and make sure the other trainers make it here" He says as he waves goodbye and takes off the opposite way. One question starts circling in your mind.

"Who is Tai Fayling?"
